Homelander: “I can do whatever the fuck I want.” Omni-Man: “I do what is necessary.” I can’t decide which mindset is scarier.
@Tyler_W
@Tyler_W 3 жыл бұрын
I think it can go either way. Homelander can be swayed because he doesn't exactly have that muvh mental fortitude. His whims are very fleeting which makes him suggestable amd open to appeals of self-interest. Unfortunately, his disposition being so temperamental is also what makes him so dangerous. From the perspective of a human anyway, Omni-Man isn't likely to try to kill or attack you on a whim, because he's not even necessarily a malicious person, but if he sees you as an obstacle to his mission, he'll put his personal desires and feelings aside without a second thought to honor what he feels are his responsibilities, even if that comes at your expense. It's a mecessary sacrifice to do the job. Even if he likes you, if his duty demands he get rid of you, he'll not hesitate to act accordingly. He's kind of a John Wick type in that "he's a man of focus, commitment and sheer fucking will." He's dangerous for the exact opposite reason. Unless you're family (and even then), there's no swaying him once he's set his mind on doing something. They're both kind of sociopaths who don't hold very much respect for the people they believe to be beneath them. Homelander's approach is more to toy with you however he sees fit and then burn you like an ant under a magnifying glass when he's bored with you, whereas Omni-Man is a bit more like a benevolent dictator who doesn't care about people's trivial affairs and largely treats them with indifference, but he'll play the hero for his own satisfaction and so long as it serves his greater purpose. On an individual level, Omni-Man would be much more preferred to Homelander just on a tempermental basis. At least Nolan is well socialized and won't kill random people for the laughs, but Homelander is probably the better choice because the problem is just him, and as you'll see in future seasons and if you read the comics, the problem Omni-Man presents is way bigger than just himself. The only thing that I think might give it to Omni-Man is because Homelander seems a bit more indestructible.
@manchesterunitedno7
@manchesterunitedno7 3 жыл бұрын
Homelander is an unhinged psychopath with a nary redemption value, he has zero morals compass. While OmniMan is an alien from a superpowered race where everyone is Gen. Zod, instead of Superman. So you can't simply psychoanalysis him, since everything he is doing is based on that alien race sense of duty and morals.

I mean it’s not surprising he’s an alien from a warlord planet , the perception of love humans have vs other planets is astronomically different. If I’m a being that will live hundreds of years if not thousands while slowly aging I could see myself desensitized for life if it’s that’s short of a lifespan where they’ll eventually die and the cycle repeats itself among 5.3 billion people. For him it’s deja vu every single time . Like watching a movie for hundreds of times that it looses its interest on you . Another thing, rape is considered normal in Omni Man’s planet, yeah that’s how different it is , messed up I know but that’s how they see it in their culture.

Without spoiling anything, you’ll be glad to know the idea of super powered beings (heroes and villains alike) trying to fix the world instead of just punching bad guys and “fighting crime” is one the series continually explores with multiple characters and storylines, to the point where you could reasonably argue it becomes the central thesis of the entire series.

I hate people joking about it, because they really fail to understand the severity of it. It's not JUST physically violent, but also emotionally violent if that makes any sense. Nolan crosses such an unbelievable boundary in that moment. He essentially used Mark as a living weapon to kill all those people against his will, to desensitize him to mass murder. Now to a certain extent, it's arguable that Mark was weaker than Omni Man and couldn't have foughten out of his grasp, so it's not really his fault that Omni Man held him there obviously. But Omni Man still took advantage of his invincibility powers to make it happen so it's such a grey area. It's such a violation of Mark's very existance and forcing so much guilt onto his concious and no one seems to acknowledge it. AND YET, despite that horrible horrible despicable crime on like 50 different levels, Mark still has the fortitude to try reaching out to Nolan, and not only that, *but it seemed to work.* That's some crazy stuff right there. I can only wonder what Omni Man's role will possibly be as the series goes on.

It’s a little like Young Justice in a way tho since it starts off immediately with the teenager (Mark) becoming a hero & trying to be like his father (Omniman) & with the mystery immediately happening where everyone has to wonder what it means, if they catch what’s going on which Mark doesn’t (Like Red arrow in young justice because of reasons I won’t say because it’d be a spoiler if you haven’t seen it yet) so it has kinda has the same structure & what not, that Young Justice has, but just different characters & Invincible (the show, not the character) is more bloody.

Nah I read the comics and can confirm that the stories are, most of the time, just hype with no payoffs. Viltrum war, robot war, angstrom levy, titan, dr. Seismic, dinosaurus, universa etc all ended with underwhelming endings. Another example is conquest fight. People praised it so much so I was very hype to read it only to be disappointed that eve had to save invincible, she's the one to basically weaken conquest for invincible to put him down and even then he couldn't kill him. Also the climax of the fight was ruined by a forced nudity joke. For me it was all downhill from there. I'll say that the build up had potential but the writer didn't deliver.

[SPOILER FREE] What I think captured me the most in this show, besides the things that were pointed out in the video, was the actual plot. The way you can never predict where the show is going, because you don't really know what the motivation is for some of the characters, makes it very compelling. They way the show takes some superhero tropes but twists them in an unexpected way feels fresh and interesting to watch, even though the whole 'subversion of the superhero genre' is not something new at this point. Also, something that got me a little worried was the duration of the episodes (around 45 min. each), which is unusual for an animated show, but the plot is so good that I never felt bored watching it.
