I've been knitting for 40 years and have never tried this bind off before, because all the instructions seemed too complicated - it was doing my head in. Your video simplified everything for me, and I have just used it on my beret in a jiffy. It looks so pretty! Thank you, Irina! 💛💛🌺🌺

The set up stitches are different from other tutorials and I’m confident that this method will make it look the most perfect jogless round! I’d like to leave the first knit and the purl stitches though.
@irinarevo

You can start with any stitch - knit or purl, as long as you follow the same algorithm, it will work.
@annabelle7123

@@irinarevo I meant the first two set up stitches because you start with the first knit stitch and the ver last purl stitch of the round. Sadly I tried but could not perfect this, my first stitch still looks strange… also taking them off makes it hard! I’ll try once more next time! Any tip other than the marker?
@irinarevo
@irinarevo Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I can’t see what you are doing, so can’t know what is wrong. The best way would be to take a thick and easy to see yarn - like aran cotton in a very light colour/white is best/. And make a sample size rib, set the video in the slowest motion, and proceed with binding off very slowly following the steps exactly. This is a very good exercise, it’s what I do and it always works for me.

Hi Irina, I’ve finally got round to trying this cast off but I am using it on a 2 x knit 1 x purl rib and I’ve realised everyone only seems to suggest it for a 1 x 1 or 2 x 2 rib. Does it knit up unevenly on a 2x 1 rib? Mine appears quite uneven!
@irinarevo
@irinarevo 3 ай бұрын
Hi Hannah, yes it is for a 1x1 rib (1 knit x 1 purl). For the 2x2 and 3x3 it will work too, but first you would have to swap the stitches to make it a 1x1. For any other combination of the knit and purl stitches - like 2 k x 1 p in your case - you can’t swap the stitches to get a smooth transition to a 1x1 rib, so some other bind off would be better.

Would it not be easier to leave the stitches on the needle until they are knitted twice? It’s a bit confusing where to put the needle into the stitch for the second time. I have a hard time finding where to insert the needle 😢
@irinarevo
@irinarevo Жыл бұрын
Hi, you can leave the stitches on the needle and follow the algorithm on 2:58 min - for the second time always insert the needle into a stitch in a way that corresponds to its name - knitwise into knit stitches, purlwise into the purls.

Thank you for the suggestion. It’s less stretchy than the c/o. I showed the comparison when I worked on a top down sweater - in this video: JOGLESS Neck Transition - from rib to body. TOP DOWN Sweater knitting in the Round. kzbin.info/www/bejne/poeZgGagrM-Untk

@@irinarevo thanks! So the method is the same for 2x2 and 1x1?
@irinarevo
@irinarevo Жыл бұрын
Yes, 2x2 (or 3x3) needs to be transferred to 1x1 first, but 1x1 can be worked right away.
@Cuisinenomade1
@Cuisinenomade1 Жыл бұрын
@@irinarevo when you say "transfered" you mean "slipping the purls work the knits and viceversa" before using the tapestry needle, right?
@irinarevo
@irinarevo Жыл бұрын
I meant that the tubular method is the same for 1x1, 2x2, and 3x3 rib. Except, for 1x1 tubular you can right away "start slipping the purls work the knits and viceversa" before using the tapestry needle because the knit stitches are already alternating with the purl stitches. For 2x2 and 3x3 you first swap the stitches to change to a 1x1 rib. :)
