Michael Hutchence was one of those totally unique singers with his own trademark, signature brilliance. Sexy, sultry, intense, dark, moody and a fucking genius. A completely original human incarnation who I always thought could never, EVER be replaced or emulated... But, man...this song is just way too damn perfect! I hate saying this, but JD has possibly done it...if only with this one track alone. RIP Michael Hutchence.

It is a song about Michael, written by Andrew about his feelings on Michael's passing. God's Top Ten is haunting as well, a song written for Michael's daughter, Tiger. Beautiful. There's a video of a live performance of it, and near the end Tim is losing it. Breaks my heart that they lost their friend and musical brother.
@jeannetteurtongonzales86204 жыл бұрын
Cherié Summers This is the first time I am hearing this. I was so heartbroken when Michael died. Kind of silly I guess... I was a 38 year old woman when he died, happily married with two little girls. We used to dance around the living room to INXS.... it always made me so happy and brought me back to the most fun time of my life (before having my girls). We had just built a house and I was on a ladder painting fleur-de-Lis designs on my dining room walls with the TV on for distraction when I heard the news about Michael. I literally fell off the ladder, luckily I was not very high up. I felt like a part of myself died that day. I think the truth is that many fans, including myself did not want them to replace him- as unfair as that is, I never gave JD a chance. I regret it now. This is a beautiful song and I did wonder if it was about Michael although in the video they allude to a romantic relationship. No one will ever replace Michael, but I think JD was an excellent frontman as well. I had never heard “The God’s Top 10” until tonight and tears started streaming down my face. He was such a loss but I am glad he is at peace. I feel so much for Tiger Lily.

In between the longing to hold you again I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control My mind drifts away, we only have today Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow Heal me from all this sorrow As I let you go I will find my way I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes Now I'm living in your afterglow When the faith has gone as I let you go, as I let you go Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow Heal me from all this sorrow As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice Now I'm living in your afterglow Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses It's you who is closest

It still feels fresh in my mind. The feeling of the wind and the roses when he says those words, I can really feel them. It is tough to understand afterglow. It is a sorrow happy feeling of still being connected with whom we love, but aren't around anymore to hold us. But we are satisfied with what they left behind, and live in a trance forever. That is afterglow.

But do you c that half the people commenting don't even know who the REAL lead singer of INXS was..oh youth today..poor things :-) :-) :-)

Actually, I think that Michael would have preferred to still be alive than ever feel good about a song written in memory of.

@@IndigoChick68 Half the people commenting in general are clueless but, I am grateful for the existence of KZbin for without this free platform, watching and hearing the music that represents the soundtrack of our lives would not be possible.

I notice how INXS members ackowledge their age and let this talented young man take center stage and be the Frontman/Star . . They add their stamp, which is their preogative , but it seems they didn't interfere . YET I don't know what went on behind scenes but i wish we could have gotten two more LPs from INXS and new frontman JD Fortune. I think INXS deserve to be In RockNRoll Hall of Fame . Along with REM and U2 , they were one of the best bands of the 80s. INXS was just as good at songwriting and i can tell they were better Instrumentalists. If INXS does ever get in there I hope they include JD too.

The first time I listened to this song I didn't watch the video, and I got a strange feeling that the song is sort of written in the memory of Michael. The entire tone of it, and the lyrics that avoid using words like "her" or "love" or any words that would point to a relationship between a man and a woman. The entire relationship theme seems like a facade. It is almost painful seeing these old band members, with this void to fill in their lives that used to be Michael. The second time around I also watched the video, and the parts where the band members walk on empty streets, especially 3:04 where they are sort of transparent, and the singer is not, points strongly towards my original impression being true. I could also be completely wrong but that is what this song's message is to me, and it is much more powerful than a simple broken relationship theme.

Exactly. That part of the video is so poignant, where the surviving members are walking through the streets. And yes, powerful lyrics too. RIP Michael.
