I feel like iPhones and iOS in general have been putting performance and features over stability and battery life. iOS 15 had a balance of that

I'm hearing a lot of people talk about what to expect for Apple this year, and I think the thing I want the most is the notification center being improved. I still think it's a mess, and there are times when I feel like I'm missing notifications. Go back to starting them at the top, and give us the app logo saying there are notifications or something. Yeah it's like Android, but unless you have a better idea, it's a lot more organized.

I hate what Apple has been doing lately with software updates.

Aaron I’ve been a iOS user since the very beginning - I couldn’t agree more with your sentiment. iOS to me is a mess, year after year Apple promises stability but constantly fails in its attempts to provide a decent software experience when compared to other OS which as you know used to be the other way around .

Both iOS 16 and 17 suck. Stability became very bad after widgets and wallpapers update. i miss old ios versions too much. Stuttering in every app not matter if its stock app or third party. Only safari and telegram runs buttery smooth. Apps not ready for 120hz display. Bad thing is only people with good eyes can see these stuttering and fps drop issues.. And some people thinking its normal. But old ios versions were buttery smooth. (iPhone 14 Pro / iOS 17.2.1)
@KieranBLK9 ай бұрын
OMG. You can see the stuttering and lag with scrolling and animations too? It’s beyond annoying that most people’s eyes can’t pick up on it or they just ignore it. It’s even present on ProMotion devices. It’s a core iOS issue that’s exaggerated on a 3rd party app level, mainly cross platform code base apps. So far Spotify, Telegram, and WhatsApp are the only native apps that seem to not be affected by this issue which is odd because even native apple apps have it. Been experiencing this since iOS 14 the 3 iPhones I’ve had since and when I contacted Apple support about it 2 years ago they claimed it was under investigation and it still has yet to be resolved.

My major issue with iOS that I simply can’t put into words how much it hurts to have to put up with it everyday is all the stuttering and lag with scrolling and animations. I can let the bugs and glitches slip by to a certain degree but performance and efficiency is where I draw my line. I simply cannot tolerate it. My iPhone 11 is perfectly capable of smoothly scrolling and animating UI elements it’s a very simply task handle in hindsight of everything else nowadays. Then there’s the battery life. I recently replaced my battery and it’s barely improved anything if nothing at all, it can hardly get me through the day with my light usage of just scrolling through twitter, steaming YT videos, and a bit of browsing, I have to end up using my battery case at 8th period of the school day. I’ll also add that a lot of features on my phone are disabled, such as Siri (Completely), location services and I even have to result to having airplane mode on when I’m on Wi-Fi to help and even then I’m still only getting about 3-4 hours SOT tops.

My biggest issue with ios 17 since release mind you (currently running 17.3 beta) is the horrible notification delivery bug. No matter if my phone is on vibrate or if I have sound on it fails to notify me of most notifications or phone calls. Sometimes it won’t ring or play the notification sounds other times it won’t vibrate it’s just a horrible mess. Compared to IOS 16 where I had constant overheating issues on every single release l’ve just hated using my phone for the past 1.5 years. I’m using a 13 pro max and it ran amazing on iOS 15 but ever since then it’s been a horrible experience and considering the lack of features compared to android I’m seriously beginning to consider switching.

I assumed the 16/17 woes were from the all hands on deck upset with the mandatory port change. Maybe it didn’t have to be difficult but Apple sure did enhance the Pro features like mounting SSD directly along with the 15’s camera pixel upgrade. Now with potential upcoming side load app sandboxing their stability will be tested even more and needs to moved to priority one over any new feature addition. Great perspective shared. Thanks 11:43

Handy video Aaron! I started using the iphone in the midst of ios 12. As far as features since then, it's been great, since I don't use the advanced features and only a few Apple apps. Yes, I've had the odd bug as of late (one that Apple just doesn't think is important enough to fix). The stability and battery life since I started at least in my opinion hasn't changed much and really needs to get better.

I was with android for over 10 years and then moved to iPhone having become fed up of fragmentation and inconsistency in the platform. While I have had a few bugs with my iPhone I would say nowhere near as bad as those I experienced with Android. The main issues that I tend to have relate to copying data between iPhone and Mac and general issues with continuity but these have been few and fixed by usually a restart. But these are features I never had on Android. I started on an iPhone 12 and moved up to a 14 Pro and I have been very happy it’s a far better experience than any I have had with Android, with my last two Android phones being a Note 10 Plus and then a OnePlus 9 Pro so not like I have come from cheap Android phones.

I get my notifications just fine, both the banners and in the notification center. When I swipe up on the lock screen, I can scroll through my notifications just fine. When you mention it, you tend to jump back out from the lock screen so quickly, I don't really understand what the issue you're seeing is, as opposed to what you're expecting to see. Any change you could either do a full explanation, or point me to a previous vide where you have explained it fully? Thanks! I also don't think I'm experiencing the screen dimming issue, but I use a pretty dark wallpaper, so that might be why I don't notice it.

Notifications have been irritating ever since the Big Sur redesign. Features I had in Catalina were removed in macOS Big Sur/iOS 14 and later updates. No longer can I see how many notifications are in a stack (quite useful for emails and iMessages). No more can I quick complete a reminder. I gotta make extra clicks to complete a reminder from a notification now. No longer can I quick reply to an iMessage from a notification. The clunky dropdown is inefficient on macOS and missing notifications is more common than it used to be. It is easier to look at the app icon than notification center for texts and phone calls. occasionally I look into ways to bring back the Catalina features but find no solutions. Super annoying. RANT OVER. I should probably update to iOS 17. I have been wanting to try out the new widget features but never took to time to update.

Well Aaron, Apple can always fix issues and make things better, the question should be, would they? And also, something that people would overlook unless you rely on accessibility features, if you are dealing with let's say, inconsistent brightness, or pictures not looking as beautiful as they should, those, while no denying are annoying problems, are not a deal breaker. If you are relying on something like VoiceOver like myself, and it's either not working well, or worst case scenario, stop working completely, that could mean no phone for me in the case of the latter. In short, Apple needs to wake up and be a respectable company that they should be recognised as and we customers deserve way more than what we got with the "PREMIUM" price we pay them for.
@avenged1109 ай бұрын
Definitely sticking with iOS 15 here. The only redesign I ever hope for is movement in the direction of iOS 6, hah. Every year everyone hopes for stability and efficiency improvements and ever year it seems as though Apple does less and less on those fronts, focusing instead on features no one asked for and political bs. Though I’m not necessarily surprised knowing the types of people who work there.

when i made de change from Android to iOS, i was drawn in because the stability, the ease of use, security and longevity of support on Apple devices. 2 years later, still in iOS, but disappointed because i can't see QoL improvments, like gestures, notifications, app configurations, personal customization, SIRI, among other things. Love the device, the ease of use, the ecosystem really hooks you in, but most of the improvements, aside lock screen customization, and widget improvements (both still behind Android), are meaningless, IMO. Oh not forgeting features available only on US, leaving EU users at bay, or features only available on the most recent models, features that can be SW available, like de 80% max charge.

Sadly I must agree that Apple has lost its shine. My iPhone 15 pro max battery absolutely sucks. Apple better get their house in order before people begin looking for alternatives
