ISU fan here. I think this was an accident 😂 We have had issues on kickoffs all season. In our most recent game (Big 12 Championship) OU was able to return it into our territory on their last possession which proved costly for us. I think Campbell’s goal today was to have us kick it high so we can make sure the coverage has time to get there, as seen in the first kickoff of the game. We got lucky on this one and happened to end up converting it. Either way, it was awesome and I am so pumped right now after this win 😁

Honestly, the level of risk vs reward on this kick makes it so if there is any level of repeatability to it, I would consider as a coach to have this as an option on literally any kickoff. Oregon recovering it would have put it at the 30 or something, so little more than a touchback. And if doing it regularly changed how teams positioned themselves to defend, just switch back to a normal kick off with blockers in less ideal positions.
@micahblum4664 жыл бұрын
Yeah the only problem would be if you kick it a little farther to the left it goes out of bounds but other than that it would be great
@Rfranklinz454 жыл бұрын
That's also a really hard kick to pull off. Instead of hitting it full power you have to dial it back *just* enough to put it there without going out
@nathaneyring48584 жыл бұрын
@@micahblum466 Fair. It is one of those things where it super depends on if it is something a kicker could learn to do repeatedly, but they might not be able to control the randomness enough to prevent stuff like you said.

@@nathaneyring4858 the other problem would be dealing with the amount of speed in the nfl, the receiving team has an automatic ten yards on you they’d get to the kick before it had a chance to bounce

My son had three similar kicks in high school his sophomore year....two were recovered. He is very good at finding dead space and our fast guys getting to the ball before the receiving team realized what happened. Risk is minimal because there is almost never a return on such a kick. QUESTION: If the ball travel's past the 10 yard line in the air is the kicking team allowed to recover the by catching it in the air before it touches the ground?
