I love that body style! I would update the suspension, drop in an LS with all new wiring, disc brakes, paint and upholstery and you would have a great hotrod! It would then be a good driver with plenty of power and reliability.

If the lifters were stuck, they would not move, and could not bend anything. Valves that cannot move would cause bent pushrods as the cam would push the lifter, which would push the pushrod, rocker arm, valve, but the valve and rocker arm would not move, leading to the problem. Have fun. Added: hydraulic lifters need to be adjusted initially or they would tap or hold the valve off its seat.

Back until the sixties, I know for sure that allstate insurance had a plant in portland ore. where they rebuilt and sold engines or parts like heads and other items used like that fuel pump, carburetors, remand intake and exhaust manifolds. They did this for most all engines in other manufactures for a while then were gm only. You are hearing this from a guy who will be seventy five next month. I worked as a mechanic up until the early two thousand era. I left that in two thousand ten, and memory is challenged. I do remember they painted parts they did with green paint.

Lifters being stuck would not bend pushrods. Valves are stuck closed.

You need to adjust all of the valves but you need to do that either while it's running or adjust each valve when the lifters are all the way "down" in their bores (both vales closed. Start with #1 on top dead center (power stroke). Then, do #5, #3,#6, #2 #4. Don't remember how much crank rotation between each adjust. Look that up on Google or ?? Don't remember the correct lash. It might be .012/ .018 with the exhaust being the .018 since those valves get hotter. Get them adjusted right and your engine will sound like a sewing machine when it's running. ;o)

Hey Ryan you need to adjust each lifter when they are on the base line of the cam that's the only way to get the proper lash. Keep up the good work.

I do keep seeing pasture fresh 49-52 Chevys of various body styles show up around me in the $1k-$2k range on the Facepage Marketspace and I sure do hope when I have cash to get one that I can drag it to my shop and give it the "Ryan from Iowa Classic Cars" treatment and have it running and moving around enough to decide how far I want to take it. That's assuming the '41 Dodge I saw doesn't show back up for $1k again, it had a 70s 360/727 in it but was running and driving 3 years ago for $6k so maybe someone let it sit too long.

Take the trim off the inside, and cut the gasket, then push. Do not try to remove glass from the outside, has to be pushed out from inside the car

What did you set the lash at on the valves. You know they have to be clearanced. Solid lifters have to be set with a feeler gage between the rocker tip and valve stem at approximately .025 thousandth's. Stop using wd-40 because it is a water dispersant and forms sticky varnish over time. Use any other spray oil like kroil.

I would hope your not just going to put 60 dollar oil in this engine,,This engine is filthy inside,,You can buy 2 gallons of mineral oil for 20 dollars,,If it were me ,,I would buy 4 gallons of this cheap oil,,Enough for 3 oil changes,,Run the oil for 60 miles ,,Then drop it,,Do this 3 times to clean out the engine,,Then put in a good semi synthetic oil,,You should have a clean engine after this,,
