I checked the comments to write this myself. I already put box tape on it to keep my daughter from cutting herself while waiting for the replacement screen and to keep pieces of glass from falling off in the mean time. I'm in autobody, and they have what's called collision wrap, which is basically giant sheets of flexible tape.

10:10 I would suspect the putty material beneath the screws is to further stabilize those four connection points between the frame and LCD. Otherwise, the screws would be prone to shock and wear over time causing the connection points being less secure.

Make sure you follow his steps and don't assume anything as I did. The ribbon cable adhesive for the digitizer must be applied before attaching it to the mainboard. I tried attaching after, didn't go flush. I attempted to peel it back off to reapply and the cable ripped at the bend. Very fragile. the adhesive I'm referring to is the one with tan prep paper with green lettering.

@AugyTekCEO3 жыл бұрын
I know this video is about a year old, but a customer pointed me to it and I would like to correct a few things for anyone still watching and thinking about repairing it on their own. 1. ALWAYS use safety goggles. Even if your screen isn't that "spidered" it only takes 1 shard of glass 1 mm across to end your sight permanently in that eye. ALWAYS use an ESD (electrostatic discharge) wrist guard (once you have glass removed and unit is opened up in this case) and NEVER perform this repair with carpet underneath you. 2. NEVER use a hair dryer, always use an adjustable hot air gun. Decent ones start at $50, and better ones are 75-100. 3. NEVER use a metal pry tool like this guy did. They are for experienced people that know EXACTLY where to pry, and where not to. Buy a cheap pack of playing cards and use those to slide under instead after using a small flat (and dull) xacto blade to lift up the edge. If you feel abnormal resistance, then you likely are not properly underneath the adhesive, or it is not hot enough. Mark the spot with a marker and start somewhere else, or reheat and try again. Remember that the adhesive strips are typically 1/8th of an inch wide thereabouts in most places, but there are places that are smaller. For novices, watch this video and mark with a permanent marker where the cables are at so you remember, it's much easier. Also, if you happen to slide the card in too far and you can see it beyond the inner rim of the digitizer, you are less likely to permanently scratch the LCD screen. (Maybe some adhesive residue you have to GENTLY clean off, but that's about it.) 4. When you are dealing with the "gunk" under the screw holes of the LCD, you can also use the hot air gun to release them, just remember to wiggle the hot air gun back and forth while you GENTLY lift on the LCD near the corner so you don't damage the LCD corner with heat or burn your fingers. If it's too hot through your gloves, then it's too hot for the LCD. 5. If you ordered a cheap replacement screen off Amazon and your sensor panels around the viewable glass area are exposed and there isn't already a pad or buffer on top of it, send it back. DO NOT try to cover it yourself. It is VERY easy to damage these sensors, and even the oils from your fingers can do it, or can corrode them later on. (You should be wearing pierce and heat resistant gloves anyway.) 6. Also, if adhesive is NOT preinstalled, send it back, unless you are familiar with how to use very thin pieces of adhesive, this is VERY difficult for a novice or the inexperienced to do correctly. 7. NEVER use Loctite, or any other Permanent type adhesive substance. It guarantees you will never be able to do a repair the same way again. At least not easily. 8. To clean the edges of the chassis where the old adhesive was, you may (CAREFULLY) use a small flat razor xacto blade (preferably dull) to scrape adhesive. You may also dip the blade into 99% isopropyl alcohol first to help with the removal. DO NOT use anything other than 99%. It does not evaporate and leaves residue and contaminants behind and your new adhesive will not adhere as well. 9. ALWAYS take a can of air and (holding the can of air as upright normal as possible so you don't spray liquid) blow off the LCD screen and inside of the Digitizer before you place it down for testing AND AGAIN before final adhering. 10. When you test the new digitizer, also test your home button functionality. The touch will not be exactly functional as the sensors will still be a bit wonkey because the glass isn't perfectly flat. As long as you can touch something and it responds, cool, it works. 11. And this one should arguably be the first... If you are not comfortable AT ALL with ANY of this repair, DO NOT ATTEMPT IT. Yes, by getting the tools and digitizer yourself you might save 50 or 60 bucks vs. taking it to a repair shop, plus you now have proper tools for another job in the future. But is it really worth that? If you are going to do a "one and done" repair, it's really not. If you have no interest in doing any other types of repairs, or aren't comfortable with electronic repairs, then just pay the extra and let a professional do it. Find one that has good reviews and can explain the process in depth to you prior to selecting one. Plus, whether doing it yourself OR using a professional 3rd party repair service, you are indirectly supporting the right to repair movement, and telling Apple and other big companies to go take a hike with their BS. Hope that all helps. Otherwise, this is a semi-decent video, and if nothing else explains the common things that inexperienced people wouldn't necessarily be aware of. Edit: Original 4 and 6 were removed due to this being a model that does not have the requirement to slide a pick under the battery connection. Wish apple would make up their freaking minds.
@AugyTekCEO3 жыл бұрын
One other thing I forgot to mention.... If your glass is not completely shattered, and don't want to waste a bunch of time like this guy did, try using shipping tape to place over the screen to prevent the glass from cracking further. Use the HIGHEST quality shipping tape you can find. Like 8-10 dollar a roll stuff. It might take you some time to cover all the cracks, but will save you more time in the long run usually if you are careful and patient when removing the adhesive.

Probably takes 5-8 hours will fully charge the iPad.

I had the same thing happen, one of the sensors wasn’t plugged in correctly for me. It was the one with the plate with the 3 tiny screws
@MacBookPro154 жыл бұрын
Really informative video! However I did loose a screw that holds the plate on the ribbon connectors so is there any way to get replacements for them?

Missing one screw is fine. You still have two other screws that hold.

I don't know what's the actual temperature. Just not extreme heat till it burns your hand. That should be fine.

Hi UberGeeks when you applied the first lot of tape to help with the sensor, when you put the final double sided tape on at the end will the tapes overlap each other or will they miss each other ?

If it is display stripe, you need to change LCD screen.
