I have an iPad mini 2. I’ve been having problems charging it. it seems the charging port might be loose . I have set the charger cord against something hard just have it propped up and it would charge or put the cord at an angle now it’s not wanting to charge. Do you has any suggestions. I bought a new charger port but I’m afraid I would mess it up worse it I tried to do it myself. Thank you margie

A few questions if you don't mind please. What temps are you using on the hot gun and also on the soldering iron? Any specific brand flux that like using? Lastly, how strong is the connection? I've done this before on the iPad Mini but the soldering connection is always so weak even though it seems like everything is soldered on there pretty good. I use a microscope when doing my work too. Great video BTW! It's about time someone shared on how to do this.
@GoCellPhoneRepair10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jimmy. I wish that I could give you an exact number but using a Kada 925D+ I'm going to say that setting the air to about 6 should be sufficient. The soldering iron was set to 350 F but he moved very quickly across the connections.

I can probably do everything except solder it on. I have tried replacing hdmi ports in the past. The pros make it seems easy. I don't know if it's the type of solder that makes the difference. I can't get my solder to melt quick enough to now destroy the plates. I would think instead of the iron, align the pins and then use the head gun to melt the solder on.
@oerjanolde84203 жыл бұрын
Did just replace the charging port on my iPad Air after watching this. Now it charges again. I used a knife and just carefully cut some marks around the port connection to make the alignment of the soldering connector easy. Make sure to use a knife as well to "cut/scrape" between all the solderings to make sure there are no contact between them. Thanks :)

@bamadad66 жыл бұрын
Gold squares (tiny gold dots in a square shape) at two opposite corners align the board... then tack a couple pins at each of the two corners. top left, bottom right... see some other videos. This video is good in that it's a macro overall depiction, but other videos are better with flux and soldering under the microscope.

I slowly took apart my ipad Pro 4th generation and replaced the charging port just like you have done here and now it will not charge at all. I am so frustrated. I work on this daily because I am an illustrator and now I am left with a brick of an ipad pro. I will say that before I replaced the port the old port was all messed up but would charge if at an angle or jiggled around, now nothing charges it. If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it and would appreciate any help! It's only 2 years old so this is extremely frustrating.

Hi, I have 2 questions: 1.How do you know when you align charging port to and mainboard for them to match. You can not see through them. 2. I saw you add lead on the top of charging port, I see no way the bottom lead will melt and connect to the mainboard. Thank you very much!
@sethreign81032 жыл бұрын
I know the comment is 5 years old but someone else will be watching this and the uploader still hasn't answered for some reason but 1. There's two square windows on either side of the connector that line up with reference squares on either side of the pads. 2. You're supposed to tin the pads on the logic board before you put the charging port on top. The heat from the soldering iron will draw that solder up through tiny holes on the pads on the new connector.
@bkj2422 жыл бұрын
Good job well demonstrated except for the detailed views of the ribbon connector of the charging. Honestly, given the micro-soldering skills required to for this repair, anyone who might attempt this repair that if detailed views are required, YOU AREN’T SKILLED ENOUGH so stop before proceeding. It was the other disassembly required where this video has the most value!

When I took the touch screen off mine, in a few spots the paint came off with the adhesive not a lot, anything you can do about that, like maybe retouch it with some paint, that is similar in color. I know it won't be perfect, but just so it blends in a little more.
@JesusRamirez-oh6wc8 жыл бұрын
Also how much magnification where you using, sorry I didn't watch the whole video yet, because i might not have to solder. The port was loose so I tightened it down, It's still not charging though, I noticed it's pretty dirty inside the port, so i'm gonna clean it, that could be the reason it's not charging. The one i'm working on doesn't seem to have been dropped or anything.

Please a very single question. Once the digitalizer was removed, I touched the screen (black screen) with one of my finger and there are a few fingerprints . Can you suggest me a procedure how to clean it? Which product do I have to use? Soap, solvent....I'll appreciate your answer. About your video, very interesting.
@GoCellPhoneRepair5 жыл бұрын
That is the biggest pain when it comes to this repair. Short answer is get a lens pen. They are made for camera lenses but work well here too. Almost any liquid that you put on the screen will smear and oil which is what comes off of your skin is difficult to remove. Whatever you do stay away from glass cleaner, rubbing alcohol, etc. Most products will just make a mess and anything with fibers like a cotton cloth can scratch the surface.
@diegom77715 жыл бұрын
@@GoCellPhoneRepair so, finally, what to do? How to clean it? Yesterday I cleaned, using a soft cloth, the fingerprints, but still there are stains and cannot be removed.
@jamesregan79 жыл бұрын
From what I can see you didn't use any liquid flux at all if you did you could just drag solder over all the pads in one swoop and if you have good flux you shouldn't have any bridging. No need to try to tediously try to do them one by it will never work hate to say but that was a bad attempt with just a bit a liquid flux you would have been done in minutes not trying to troll can just see your mistakes sure you got it all sorted out great video
@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
+jamesregan7 I agree with most of what you are saying. I typically use a drag solder technique with charging ports on phones. I'm not sure why he did each connector individually but yes it was a successful attempt.

+cathy almeida Assuming that you have already tried multiple cables and charging blocks- it may sound obvious but to make sure all bases are covered before you go through all that work again- OEM 2.4 amp etc. I would be curious as to the history of the device. Was the port visibly damaged from the outside? Did it charge at all or have the same message before? There may be a different part of the system causing the error but its also possible that something is not connected right and of course you may have a bad replacement part.

@GoCellPhoneRepair6 жыл бұрын
This is a fairly old video and these days a repair like this takes less time. To answer your question- in my experience, no. Soldering the flex onto the board is easier than trying to transfer just a port. They don' t like stress so you pretty much want to remove the board from your tablet regardless of how you plan to repair the charge port.
@dclift627 жыл бұрын
Dude, you need to get into the habit of disconnecting the battery before you remove the lcd and digitizer connectors, That's how how you blow the backlight, Just lift up the battery connector a bit and slide in a guitar pick to keep it isolated. Otherwise great Vid
@GoCellPhoneRepair7 жыл бұрын
Point taken an I agree with you 100%. Disconnecting the battery first and reconnecting last is part of best practice when it comes to working with anything that uses electricity. That said it's far more likely that you will encounter problems when reconnecting something while live than unplugging it. The iPad Minis and iPhone 6S series are notorious for blown back lights in this situation because it's so easy to bridge the power line to ground due to the connectors design. Furthermore the 6S has voltage going to the connector while the device is powered off. I'll update this video since it's pretty old and I have a good microscope camera now. Thanks for the comment!

It does not. That's a common question we get from customers and as long as it's hardware repair like a damaged port, screen, or other physical component you won't lose anything unless the logic board itself (PCB) has been affected.

Holy Crap! Apple really don’t like the idea of making things that can be fixed, do they? Odd since that philosophy puts lots of people off ever buying their devices, and it puts people off buying again if they have a fairly minor issue like the damaged charge socket. If they cared they would design so that the most likely damage areas would be simpler - even if they made it to need a specialist tool. Thanks for the very detailed video, but after watching less than half I already know I won’t be attempting the repair myself - I’ll just buy a new Samsung tablet.
