Surely you can't expect Apple to put 120hz on a $500 tablet when they just released a $800 phone with 60hz. That would be a huge slap in the face. At least they are consistent in screwing us over. Gotta give credit for that.

For example people on the internet and KZbin have been calling for macOS to be on iPads but then why have MacBooks? Also if you put 120hz and oled on iPad mini then why have the Pro line. Etc etc. apple wants different product lines and tiers. They don’t want you to just buy a one-do-it-all device with every single feature so you won’t buy multiple products. I was going to do it with the Mini 6, but 64GB is not enough storage for me and I’m not paying Apple’s storage upgrade pricing, but if I did have a Mini 6 I would not upgrade to the A17 Pro. The use of the A17 Pro CPU over the A18 as the latter only supports USB 2 speeds (480mbps) rather than USB 3 (10gbps), and the A18 Pro would have been too costly. From the benchmarks the A17 Pro and A18 are very close. So for the same base price of the Mini 6 I get twice the storage, Twice the RAM, a more up to date CPU with AI support, faster USB and Apple Pencil Pro support. Sounds like a no brained for me!

I have been using the iPad mini (A17 Pro) for a few days now and I must say, we as a tech community need a reality check. The iPad mini is the second best Apple product to have come out this year. Granted, there are several things that I don't like so let's get into it. First, no 120 Hz refresh rate. Considering that the OnePlus Pad 2 has 120 Hz at $549, Apple could have easily brought this feature and keep the $499 price tag. Second, no SIM tray. I still think this is anti-consumer and Apple should be ashamed of this tactic. Third, the peak brightness. 500 nits brightness is mediocre by 2024 standards. It should have been 1,000 nits minimum. Finally, no Apple Pencil (2nd generation) support. This is blatantly a cash grab from Apple and I do not like it at all. Other than these complaints, this is by far the best iPad you can buy given the current state of iPadOS. The tech community got their expectations set too high in regards to this refresh, including you. If you remember a year ago, Mark Gurman even said to expect the iPad mini to have an incremental upgrade. Why are we still surprised that the upgrade is minimal? I see that you and others are complaining about this iPad not having an OLED display. Personally, I think this is blown out of proportion and Apple sticking with LCD is the right call. The two things the tech community overlooks on OLED displays are PWM and screen burn-in. There are people who cannot use OLED displays due to PWM. Why is this issue not addressed? Until Apple can catch up with Chinese manufacturers with higher PWM, LCD will sufice. Also, screen burn-in is another concern if you plan on keeping the display on for prolong periods of time. The target audience are those who just want an iPad that acts like an iPad. It is not trying to be a laptop replacement like the iPad Air and iPad Pro.

@Liguritio2 ай бұрын
You should get the Mini 7. It's priced well for the spec bump when seen against mini 6. 120hz, M chip etc... doesn't fit the mini use case in 90 percent of cases. Yes, A18 chip could have helped with battery life but that's to see how A17 pro has been tuned in ipad mini 7. Oled could have been better but price wouldn't be the same. I have mini 6 and pre ordered mini 7 just for the things it brings on the table. Will trade in mini 6 later when next gen ipad air launches. There's always two sides of looking at. I decide on what matters to me.

I have mixed feelings about the new iPad mini. Here are the things that I do like about it. 8 GB of RAM is a solid upgrade if you do a lot of multitasking. This was one of my biggest gripes with the iPad mini (6th generation). 4 GB of RAM even in 2021 was showing its age. I also like that the storage options have been upgraded across the board. The 256 GB cellular model is $50 cheaper compared to the previous generation. Having the Apple Pencil Pro support is a nice bonus. However, there are things that I do not like. First, no SIM tray. I think this is the biggest con of this device. Not having a SIM tray forces you to use eSIM, which I think is anti-consumer. Second, no 120 Hz refresh rate. Since the OnePlus Pad 2 exists, there is no excuse to have a 60 Hz refresh rate at $499. Third, no support for Apple Pencil (2nd generation). I could see this being a deal-breaker for some people since they will have to buy a new Apple Pencil. Finally, the price for the 512 GB model. $799 and $949 is overpriced considering the refresh rate. Do I think this iPad mini is a ripoff? It depends on which model you plan on getting and which iPad mini you are upgrading from. If you have the iPad mini (6th generation) and if you do not do any multitasking or video editing, there is no reason to upgrade and I can see why people would feel ripped off. If you are coming from an older model or if yours broke down, then it is worth considering. Even though the 512 GB option is a nice addition, it is hard to recommend it as the price is too high.
@Regantdarcy2 ай бұрын
I dunno why anyone expected this to be a bigger update. The ipad mini has always been the forgotten stepchild of the ipad family. Except for the major redesign 3 yrs ago, ipad mini updates have always been small even when the updates happen 2 or 3 yrs apart. I knew an OLED ipad mini wasnt gonna happen until 2026 or later, but i do wish the mini got a 120hz pro motion display & face ID. Come on Apple, it’s 2024! No device should still have a 60hz refresh rate. Having said that, i will be upgrading my ipad mini 5 to the mini 7. As an artist, my main content creation & media consumption device is an ipad pro. But i love the ipad mini for when i really want to travel light. It’s the perfect small digital sketchbook when on the go and an indispensable part of my creative workflow. On the bright side, It did get a faster chip, faster usbc & faster wifi. It also got Apple pencil Pro support & larger internal storage. So it’ll still be a major upgrade for me. I plan to get the 512 gig wifi/cellular model in blue. Will Apple ever release an ipad mini pro with an oled screen? Will Apple discontinue the ipad mini? Or will the ipad mini morph into a foldable device? I have no idea. 🤷♂️ I can’t wait that long to find out. I need to upgrade now. Do i wish this update was bigger? Sure. But it’ll still be a big update for me, and I know that i’ll get a lot of creative use out of it for the next 3 years at least, so it’s worth it to me.

The A17pro and regular A18 are basically the same. It’s a stupid thing to complain about. It’s considerably less than an iPhone 16. The ram has doubled, and the usb port is now twice as fast. As someone that uses these things to sketch, Apple hover coming to it is a big deal. And having Apple Pencil pro is interesting. Honestly the design being the same is kind a fair criticism, but really it’s not. It looks fine and I’m glad the bezels didn’t thin. I can hold onto it properly. The other criticism is the screen, and that’s fair, but I think the 120hz thing is waaaay overblown. If it was an actual issue every video, game and app would be targeting 120fps. It’s not. And the fact that the things keep switching and isn’t jarring means that you just fell for the lack of innovation issue where everyone is clinging to the 120hz thing. The jelly scrolling sucks. Can’t defend that. My mini 6 is still awesome, and I have a pro for all the hardcore stuff. So I won’t be getting the mini, but I think it will be a pretty sweet small form factor tablet, and there isn’t an Android tablet that can get close to performance in such form factor.

What more can I say negatively about Apple that we already haven’t talked or brought out through the years… SMH! They definitely don’t know what’s going on out here when it comes to this new generation of everything Computing with AI and other things! They need some younger innovative minds Because I believe Apple is suffering from old people syndrome. Old people syndrome is when old people believe that they have lived longer and no more, as well as they are much wiser than younger people! That may be true, but in this case when it comes to technology, they’re wrong and are getting far behind! All this by my devices now so that they will work in the future sounds like a bunch of bullshit in my book! By the time they come out with the intended purpose of Software, the phone will be two or three years outdated, and I still have to be forced to buy a newer model in order to enjoy This somewhat 80% of the time working properly Software. Maybe my percentage is wrong but you guys get the gist of what I’m saying I hope. I’m definitely an Apple fanboy, but I’m tired of spending my money for something now that’s not going to work until later. About a year or three later… Come on bro, it may have made sense back in the day, but as countless others have said it’s 2024 and people are waking up from Apple’s hypnotic sales ventures! Like Steve Jobs says if we don’t like it don’t buy it And that’s a motto. We all should follow in everyday life! Great video… New subscriber here. Can’t wait for more.

Would it be a dumb move to trade a m1 iPad Pro for one of these? Love the form factor but lack of 120 hz and Face ID making me question it

This is just one person's opinion who gives a damn if it's got 60 Hertz on the screen. I actually want apple intelligence because I do creative work using AI so not everyone is you know bump on the long type of people. He said nobody wants apple intelligence I want Apple intelligence I like it on my Galaxy. The AI photo editing app saves a tons of workload from me having to put stuff on my PC and to do Photoshop. No one cares about the charging speed not being faster than it was years ago The processor is a big win and if you like that form factor it's a good buy. That's why they made it because some people still like it this is one man's opinion Don't believe what one person says Go look at it for yourself. Not everyone is going to s*** a brick because of a 60 hz screen

@@TechOdyssey I love your channel tech Odyssey, but you don’t make up the market. There’s plenty of people that would love the opportunity to buy that inexpensive “Apple tablet.. charging speed on the battery that small isn’t really that big of a factor and either is 60 Hz. You said in the video that nobody wants AI that is simply your opinion. Once people realize that you don’t have to open up Adobe Photoshop anymore and transport files over to a PC and then upload them to whatever thing you’re going to upload them to. It literally saves a bunch of time so I don’t know why you keep saying nobody wants it. Sure you’re every day average person who has zero creative spark they may not use any of that stuff, but professional professionals who use Adobe Photoshop can save a lot of time and effort. At the same time, there were plenty of people that subscribed to photo editing apps on their phone for 10 $15 a month. They don’t even have to do that anymore so you’re gonna tell all those people that pay monthly expenses for those things that they don’t want AI. Just because somebody commented I’m not gonna use it yeah because they don’t have any creative spark there’s no need to do it not everybody needs the creative power from AI but those who do use it can appreciate it.
