Now that I can finally use iPad Pro and other tech in class, I decided to pick up the iPad mini 6 to start my winter semester. After not using it for 2ish months, I wanted to see if my opinion about the device and it's smaller form-factor changed at all. I think its safe to say... it did. But I think I have a more realistic outlook on the device after all. In this video I address whether or not iPad mini 6 is too small for work and play!

I envy and admire you. When I was a student and I/T professional, we didn't have the personal computing tools that you have now. I am over 70 years of age. I have seen, and participated in, the dawn of modern computing. I am so pleased to see fine young people like you apply higher technologies, so effectively, and to such good advantage. I sincerely hope that you, and your loved ones, continue to prosper and grow in your chosen endeavors and vocations.

Side note: I realize that professors should have the freedom to run their classroom as they see fit and I don’t mean them any disrespect; however- it’s always really irked me when professors try and ban technology from the classroom, considering a university is a business. The students are the customer and if they want to take notes on their iPad or computer, they should be able to as long as doing so doesn’t disturb other students.

AGREEE!!!! I have professors who rather me print out countless papers and turn it in at the end of class rather than doing it digitally and submitting online which is way easier for this time in a pandemic.

I hate how university tries to act like your in a public high-school. Like im paying for this education and experience certain rules shouldn't even be a thing in colleges. Because you're right it is a business and we as young adults should be able to obtain and share our learning anyway we want.

Even though I agree mostly with what you said, the University absolutely shouldn't be a business.

Being a business is irrelevant, it's a place of learning and each person should be allowed to learn however they see fit as long as it doesn't impact others. The problem with education is the strict hierarchy that is forced on the system, humans learn way better with peers than with masters. Any professor that behaves like a boss or thinks in any way that the students are his subordinates is incompetent.

I got the iPad mini 6 for Christmas and I’ve been using it for my second semester of grad school and I love it so far! I totally agree with you that it is great note taking with goodnotes! I have smaller hands so I am okay with the size and I do write a lot but I just move to the next page. Having the iPad mini has also made me get into planning and journaling more. Finished my master's with the iPad mini 6, and I really enjoyed taking notes on Good Notes and Microsoft One Note with the pencil and my Brydge mini keyboard. Now as a casual everyday user, I use it at work for discreet video watching and journaling (and when my boyfriend's speakers poop out mid-movie). It's saved a lot of paper too! 🙌

@@MatthewVlossak I got the 64 GB with Wifi! I didn't need/use cellular, and I ended up offloading any big files on a Samsung SSD, which I also recommended wholeheartedly for a college student. I know they're pricey, but Staples sometimes has great sales, and I think you can get a student discount at B&H on one--you'll use it well beyond your college years, and it's a delight to carry something so sturdy and small. If that's a little too expensive, SanDisk has these incredible small thumb drives that have a dual end you can flip (USB-A and USB-C) and the 128 GB one saved me for work and personally on many occasions (and was I think $40). The 64 GB iPad is sufficient enough for low-memory stuff--notetaking, .pdfs, music audiobooks, editing a few photos, and general online use. Hope this helps a little bit! 🥳

@@Olivina330 It does thank you! The jump financially to 256gb is a bit steep plus I feel that was way too much storage for what I’d be doing since I barely use 128gb on my iPhone. Thank you kindly for the insightful reply! 😀

What’s crazy to me is, a 12.9” iPad Pro costs $1100, and its Magic Keyboard costs $350, for a total cost of $1450 ($1580 with Apple Pencil). A MacBook Air and an iPad Mini together cost $1500 ($1630 with Pencil). So for $50 more you get two amazing devices that work great together, instead of one great but limited device Plus, Universal Control is coming out, and when it does you’ll be able to use your MacBook trackpad and keyboard to control your iPad Mini. Heck, if you were crazy like I am, you could even combine Universal Control with the screen mirroring feature on the iPad Mini to connect your MacBook trackpad and keyboard to the iPad, then cast the iPad screen onto your MacBook, which would then essentially become a 23” iPad Pro!

@Gilamath.
@Gilamath. 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sohasorouri honestly, unless you can think of a reason to get the mini, get the base iPad. That said, there can be some very good reasons to get the Mini I travel a lot and want something I can put in a large pocket, take out, use, and put back without hassle. This past October was the first time I travelled with my iPad Mini. I got through the whole flight there with just my Mini and my passport. I was hooked from then on My ticket, my boarding pass, my COVID paperwork, a copy of my visa, my hotel information, all of it I had on my Mini. I could just pull the tablet out of my pocket, show the required documents, and put it away without having to fumble around or slow down. It also had my movies, music, podcasts, and a few books on it for the plane All that said, if I were just a little more budget-conscious, a little less travel-prone, or slightly more interested in using the iPad as a laptop alternative, I’d get the base iPad. It’s still surprisingly portable, easy to carry, and nearly $200 cheaper than the Mini. It also has better accessories, and you can get them at a relatively low cost compared to their iPad Air/Pro equivalents. Keyboard-and-trackpad cases, for example

I bought ipad 8 for my current semester thinking im gonna improve my notetaking but nope! xP i realized that what i look forward for ipad is its portability for media consumption, and the ipad 8 was too big. so i manage to sell it off to a friend and live an ipad-free life again, giving myself time if i really need the ipad mini 6, and decided to sleep on it cuz i fear the 'grass is greener' bias is taking over me, and also the bias of honeymoon phase of eye-ing over a newly released device lol. I occasionally watched some ipad mini 6 reviews and none that help me push closer to the decision line, and it seems like i gave up on having ipad mini 6. but this video review nailed it. Since you emphasized so much that ipad mini is great for annotating and for someone who does not take note as you, it's doable. and also the Kindle comparison - especially the part where u mentioned that the screen protector kinda mimic the e-reader. No other reviewer mention this so it is a helpful input from you. Well now i guess i've decided to have the ipad mini for my final year grad studies. now the only way that i can confirm if ipad mini portability will actually make me utilize it more is to finally own one ahahhah

I LOVE the iPad mini 6. Downgraded from the iPad Pro 11 because it was too big for me (I use the iPad mainly for playing games) and it's been serving me remarkably well. In fact it's absolutely perfect. It fits in my hand bag that I bring everywhere too, so I can occasionally use it for light work, with an extra foldable bluetooth keyboard. It's such a delightful little device, really. Although I miss the 120Hz display and extra RAM on the Pro variant but it's not the end of the world. And I kinda wish I had gotten other color than space grey (it gets kind of boring because the other 3 colors look beautiful) Weirdly, the battery life on mine is stellar. I use it for gaming and it gets through a full day and sometimes more. So battery life isn't a problem to me. I've heard a lot of people not really fond about the battery but my experience has been the opposite. It's amazing.

Since owning the device it has been my go to for media content consumption, mobile games, answering emails, and photo edits. To carry my EDC items, I am using the peak design 8oz option I believe which is the step down from the full size tote. This device fits perfectly which it could hold the 11 inch iPad however I prefer the mini on account of weight.

If you have a big 6.7 inch iPhone, you're more likely to grab your iPhone even for watching multimedia. The size difference between 6.7inch iPhone and iPad mini 6 is 2x. Between 6.7inch iPhone and 11inch iPad Air/Pro is more than 3x. Going with the bigger size will make it feel more like a complementary device rather than a device which competes with your iPhone.

It’s insane because it’s inaccurate. Or at least, it is for me. My Mini gets about the same battery life as my 2018 11” iPad Pro did without the Magic Keyboard. My note taking apps (Concepts, GoodNotes, Notability, and Notes), e-reader apps, and streaming apps do not demand quite so much. I can reliably get through a day on this device, it’s never died on me. But I do have to charge it every night

In good notes you don’t need to zoom in like that. I liked good notes because of the fact that you can write in a box that auto scrolls and is zoomed in for you. It’s funny, now that I’m out of college I’m going to downsize to the mini 6, my 2018 12.9 is way too big to use on the couch or hold comfortably in portrait mode. Only thing I’ll miss is the magic keyboard.

I never used good notes. I just suggested he use notability instead for the exact feature you just described. I need that feature on every size iPad I've used. Agree with you completely. Was nervous about getting the mini but after some soul searching I realized the Suze of my former iPad is the reason I ended up reaching for my MacBook or phone. instead
@Ender275
@Ender275 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mehwhatevr unfortunately after notability switched to a subscription based model I wouldn’t recommend notability to people anymore. Other wise yeah my iPad Pro was great for note taking but as you said I found my self reaching for my laptop or phone more often than my pro. I have a iPad mini 2 that I’ve been using more than my pro to watch KZbin and read books on.
@Mehwhatevr
@Mehwhatevr 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ender275 edit: I see that option now. Yearly planners, math conversion, stickers, themes, and journals? Nobody uses that. I don’t think that should stop you from recommending it. But If good notes copied that zoom feature, that’s what set notability apart. I was using it back when my stylus had a rubber tip 😂. If good notes copied that feature then recommend it too. That zoom feature is the important part. Notability has just updated and now you have so many more options. Ruled paper has to be set up rather than just picked. I may try good notes just to see if it simpler
@Ender275

@@Mehwhatevr it was a huge thing this last fall. They were going to make notability free but everyone including old users would’ve had to switch to a subscription based service to make notebooks. I’m glad to hear they calmed that down.

@@Ender275 I don't remember if I paid for it ever. I've been using it for at least ten years though so who knows? I see no benefit to the subscription though. I think the free version or whatever I'm using has enough features

I was supposed to use my iPad mini 6 as a second screen, in addition to my laptop, but the battery can barely last something like 2h and the in class I finally just have my iPad mini with a bluetooth keyboard and it's so easy to deal with PDF and when I have to Summarise an entire course. I also bought the AirPods 3 and it's awesome! I can switch from my iPad to my iPhone without doing anything and it changed my daily habits, I'm more willing to work with music or podcasts in my ears and I do believe it helps me to be more productive as a university student. 😄

I bought an iPad Mini Cellular 9 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult -so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing. After 9 years of ownership, I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following - with %'age used (give or take): Otherwise it sits in a drawer. #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%) #3 - as an eReader (4%) #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) The variety uses that others have for this devise shows how many things it can do so well. Since it is on its last leg (but not dead) - I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out later this year. BTW I would 'NEVER" buy a bigger iPad as the Mini is simply a great portable complimentary device.

I'm getting my new ipad mini today for this exact reason. I am also 'downgrading' from an 11" ipad pro. I never used it because it took way too much space and was too hard to plan on the go. For the last few months I've just been carrying around an a5 notebook and that's been working for analog planning, so I think the form-factor is perfect. Try buying an a5 notebook and writing in it and seeing if you'd be comfortable. If you like that form factor, the mini will be perfect I think!

Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This kzbin.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.
