I bought a Smart Folio like on Amazon at 20€, it was 160g instead of 106g for the Apple one, it was ticker and it was less easy to takes photos (difficult to fold). I have now the real Smart Folio, it is worth its price. I have no regret to pay 45€ more for something daily used. (Sorry for my poor English).

the backwards tringle position is perfect for when you are sitting in bed or on the floor and doing other stuff whilst watching something on your ipad. Use that position pretty often tbh.

As much as I hate paying Apple prices, I've found with watch bands and iPad covers, I tend to be much happier with the Apple products. The watch bands in particular seem so much better than any of the knock offs. For iPhone cases, though, I find plenty that are as good as or better than Apple's. I use the second position of sketching. Flat on the desk is painful.

@@guilhermeferrarib I don't use leather cases, though I've always assumed Apple's would be nice. I look for protective, squared-off cases, but I have an iPhone SE 2020, so, you know, you probably have a better phone than me.

When I ad an iPad Mini 5, I used the slight angle for editing videos and painting apps. I suspect the rather hard-to-open feature is convenient to keep the cover closed bouncing around in a back pack. BTW, I am enjoying your videos.

I bought the Smart folio case and although it’s thin & light, my Mini has fallen out of the cover about 3 times. It needs a lightweight plastic rim around the device to hold it securely in place. For this reason, I’ve removed the case & bought one of the other 3rd party cases. It’s really not worth the iPad dropping out on concrete or asphalt. For the price, it doesn’t offer protection around the edges.

The genuine Apple Smart Folio is pricy, but the quality is evident. The exterior and interior feel premium, unlike the feel of less expensive offerings (and there are many) by third parties on Amazon. I would have liked if Apple had designed the case with side protection, and accommodation for the Apple Pencil, as many third party cases have. I use the Smart Folio at home, but switch to a more protective case for business trips.

I've been thinking about getting the lavender Smart Cover along with my new purple iPad mini 6 particularly for that Apple logo on the back. I bought an aftermarket cover for my iPad with Retina display (iPad mini 2) that was much more heavy-duty with sturdy cardboard within the actual covers. Opening it is very much like opening a small hardcover book. It has a velcro strap closure and a velcro patches along the inside edge of the iPad mini allowing it to stay in any position from about 30 degrees to very nearly vertical. The iPad is held in awkwardly with elastic straps attached to a facia that covers the bezels and a velcro tab that secures the iPad into the case. This has been ideal for me because it allowed this to look like the Kindles the other people on the bus had so I wouldn't look like That Guy with an iPad. I'm concerned that you find this Smart Cover awkward to open as this is something I'll do quite regularly. I did see an aftermarket version with a closure tab that will also secure the Apple Pencil 2. I'm tempted by that one.

Great video. About the backward's triangle position, its useful for me at least, when doing a presentation over zoom/teams call, and you need to write text on the screen, when using MS PowerPoint or Apple Keynote. If you need to explain a line of code etc, its easier to write such text in this position, combined with the slight elevation makes it good for presenting as well - provided the video call is off.

I like it, light and does the job… another way I use it… I simply fold it like a triangle with the soft side inside the triangle, it connects by magnet to the back side and it increases my grip making it even more comfortable to hold in landscape mode… the orange is a great colour, nice combo with the space gray one

I’d assume the second option for the case position you were unsure about is identical to the reason keyboard have feet to prop it up. They aren’t meant to provide a more ergonomic style of typing (in fact they are actually worse for you), they were designed so typists could see the keys more easily. So when you are typing or writing on your iPad mini, having it tilted up slightly would make it easier for you to see the content.

I use the iPad a lot with that second smaller triangle landscape form you showed. The iPad mini is nice to use to jot down a lot of text specifically in landscape mode for me, and the slight angle that config allows makes for a great typing experience.

Important, which you didn’t mention, is its weight! On my iPad mini 5 I have the Apple SmartCover and with it flipped back I find the total weight just too high when holding the device in my hand on the couch for a long time, say watching video. Without the SmartCover the weight is just ok. So how is this with the mini 6? Also I reckon that the ease of connecting/disconnecting the cover to the mini 6 is lower, since it attaches to the back? If you flip the mini 6 screen cover back your fingers either touch the felt on the inside of the cover or the back of the cover. That will quickly smudge it. With the older cover your fingers touch the aluminium backside of the cover (if you fold the cover backwards in the triangle stand mode) which is easily cleaned. I only wanted a speed bump so I bought the mini 5 to upgrade my mini 4, instead of the more expensive 6.

Folding the case allows the iPad Mini to be viewed at an angle. It’s great when I’m sitting in my car and using my iPad in my lap while in landscape mode. If it is flat it shows a reflection of my windshield with a lot of glare. Having it angled shows the headliner with no reflection or glare.

As someone who draws with the IPad, the smaller incline helps visually, less distortion than when laying flat. I also personally don't use it as much as I could tho, its not as stable as I would want it to be. I do like the elevation tho, but I would also rather just stick a book under it along with the tilt. It's an okay angle.

Oh I forgot to mention, the tilt is good though for long periods of drawing. Looking straight down too much is bad for your neck.

I once ordered a cheap case online and it was such poor quality that I threw it away. The original Apple one had worn out. I bought a similar cheaper case from Amazon. I did not want to pay more for essentially the same case. The case I bought has strong magnets, my favorite color, and only costs $10. I also got another similar case that will hold the Apple Pencil securely. It was $12. I do plan to buy one more expensive case. A tough case to protect the IPad Mini from drops. That case is the Otterbox case ($60) which I will use on the iPad Mini at the gym.

I am not the biggest fan of the Apple case. You're right, it is hard to open, but the other 3 cases I have ordered from Amazon open much easier. Out of the three, two of the cases are good quality feeling in the hand. I still have a 3 year old $9.99 case from Amazon still on my iPad Pro 11 going strong, with nothing wrong with it. I will return the Apple case, as the price is just too high for the size of it, and the iPad has slipped off the back.

It is not and i am really surprised no reviewer has mentioned that! If you use your pinkie for support on the bottom of the iPad, the smart folio cuts your finger where ever you put it cause it is very thin. Design over functionality/comfort in my opinion. Also I have the dark cherry for my space grey mini and i can say even if you think your hands are clean and dry you end up seeing grease on the cover both front and back. Lighter colors would look better in my opinion.

I have 2 worries about the official apple case though Sides aren't covered and protected Will the sides scratch up easily with time? And will the pencil fall out when put in a bag with lots of things? The cheaper cases seems to have these things covered- literally!

Yes it will, if you manage to drop it and it landed corner first, it's bound to get scratched or dented. I'm an iSheep but their cases are whack and overpriced. I recommend Spigen or other reputable 3rd party brands. Or if you're a careful person (unlike some including me) and you're only using it inside your house, then I guess it's fine.

And for the pencil, I'm not sure. I don't have one but since it's just connected via magnets and depends on how you store it in the bag. As long as it has a compartment inside your bag then I guess the pencil is fairly safe. There are other cases where you can put the pencil in

I have an iPad Mini 5, about to go to an Apple store tomorrow to upgrade to the 6th gen. I've had this current Mini almost the entire two years it's been out and I can say it was among my most worth it purchases I've ever had from Apple, even more so than any iPhone. To answer your questions, it depends on if you only plan to use the Mini around the house or not. Personally I usually use it in bed for reading and video watching until I'm ready to go to sleep. I crafted a hybrid mix of a UAG Metropolis case with the Apple smart cover, since the latter wouldn't normally have worked with the case due to the lip it attaches to being covered. I literally took a razor and slowly and carefully carved out that section of the case to allow me to use the smart cover along with it and essentially have top tier protection. In hindsight, I realize it wasn't really necessary because as I said, I only used the Mini around the house and not once have I ever dropped it. I'm content with just getting the smart folio cover by itself this time since, again, it'll be enough for me. I do plan on buying a sturdier case later on, in the event I ever do take the Mini somewhere with me. Between the smart folio cover and a glass screen protector, that should be enough protection for the average casual at-home user. As far as the Apple pencil goes, I obviously haven't tested it since I don't have the Mini 6 yet. But seeing as it charges within a minute or so, I'd say just store the pencil in its own part of the bag. Bottom line, you should only need two covers/cases: One for at home and one for abroad. That's it.

I love it ... the exact combo I have ordered white folio and starlight slate ... thank you so much for showcasing the two together. Can't wait for them to arrive. I have decided to keep my iPhone 12 Pro max until the next gen (hard to exercise patience on the 120 motion flow lol) and still have the 12.9 2018 pro ... the M1 chip is alluring but again will wait for the next generation. I have a feeling I will now make more use of the ipad in its mini form fact as I find the 12.9 too cumbersome and impractical for everyday tasks. Shame there is no 120 motion flow on the mini but if I am desperate for it I can turn to its larger brother. Lastly I will also make more use of the pencil... taking notes on the mini seems far more natural. Sorry for the long comment and keep up the great work 😊👍

Terren! If you want the case to look neat and compact when closed, the teeny weeny effort you have use to open it should reassure you that the magnet is doing its job. Like you say, 3rd party ones probably wouldn’t hold up so well. I like that you included it in your review though I think it says more about the user than the product haha x

All Apple cases/covers are overpriced but they are usually premium quality. I've tried other brands and it's just not worth it. This is the only case I have used on all my iPads as it's so thin and offers protection when using in your hand or in it's standing position which is what makes the keyboard models just keyboards. No protection if you're not using the keyboard on the most expensive models. I don't do that much office work on my iPad but if I do I just use my magic keyboard and mouse that came with my iMac. Perfect! Sometimes keeping it simple is better!! Whatever meets you need set.

Lie back on a sofa and balance the mini case in one of those small triangle cases on your midriff and see how well it balances. 'Unstable equilibrium' is the term for what we see here. Crazy, imo. Otherwise, thanks.

Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.

Nice design, but overpriced and it doesn’t have any protection on the sides/corners.. try to drop once your iPad, this case won’t protect it. I ordered a Moko case, really sturdy and doesn’t feel cheap.
