SOUTH AMERICA EPISODES PLAYLIST
• Rebuilding Abandoned M...
Shortly before arriving in Argentina someone on Instagram sent me a message saying that once in Buenos Aires I could use his motorcycle shop and mechanics services for free as long as I paid for al the parts. We are short on warm days left before heading out to Patagonia but these are offers that are hard to refuse. Adrian of Wikanders Motors on top of that is the kind of mechanic that knows his stuff. He agrees that Honda motorcycle maintenance is pretty easy. And not to forget, the Transalp is a popular bike here and there is no better place in Argentina to get parts. The first couple of days of motorcycle servicing out of a handful.

Adrian, you were great, thank you for helping our irresponsible friend who rides his motorcycle in salt water and neglects his chain and sprockets too long. Seriously, he provides a whole lot of us with adventure that we are otherwise unable to experience, guys like you help a great deal to make it possible. Many THANKS and best of wishes for you and your shop, please take care during this crisis.

@@wikandersmotors Thanks for the reply Adrian, I hope Argentina (and ALL the countries in South America) come out of this okay, and it would be great to see the cool rides I'm sure you could take him on. It was painful to watch him ride in the saltwater in Bolivia after spending about a half year totally rebuilding Alp in south NZ, but it did make a good video. I just discovered the "Allen Millyard" channel, he has a small shop about the size of yours but... check him out and enjoy. Cheers my friend.

Random tip for tuff bolts that are about to round off..! fill them with valve grinding paste and push the torx/philips/allen whatever it is in. The paste helps give better purchase and fills the slightly rounded edge.(Most of the time). But if its really bad and round its not gonna work. But that first 'oh no' feeling, it works great!! Love your content. Ride safe!

If you had fuel injection problems in a modern bike in the middle of nowhere, you are generally stuffed unless you carry a spare fuel pump/in tank fuel filter and can clean the injector. And you need to drain the tank to do it. There is a huge benefit in having a carb’d bike as you can pull it apart like you did. Lyndon Poskitt’s preferred round the world steed is a carby equipped KTM.

Oh, you know what’s fun? When you poke the screwdriver through the filter to get it off that way ... you twist ... and it just rips of tha whole way round so you have nothing else to grip to and it’s still stuck on there. Oh yeah ... good times ... instant two more hours of motorcycle maintenance experience.

Then usung a jack kind of thing that expands outward to create pressure to the edges to still try and twist it out of there... and then you put in just a bit too much pressure and you deform the whole engine case. Fun times.

Nice video Pedro, hope you are all good ! That guy is a gift from God ! About the oil filter : always put it on by hand (I believe it's one full turn + 1/4 turn, but I'm not sure) and don't forget to put a bit of oil on the rubber joint so that it'll seal properly and do go in dry. I don't know what tool you are talking about but if you were thinking about the oil filter pliers/tong/key or some rubber band on a handle : those are tools to remove oil filters :) If you tight it too much you can cause damage to the threading and such, if I'm not mistaken... plus it's really hard to get out but you already know that part ! Boa viagem and cheers from Belgium ;)

A place that is like "Use any tools you like" usually is heaven, that is true. It will most certainly become hell though, if you dont take care of the tools haha Next time Use Loctite 5923 on every gasket. That stuff is as expensive as gold but well worth it. Even the shittiest rubber gasket will seal with it and I never had one leak with that stuff on. I love the generosity that he helps you with and one thing I learned while travelling is that one day this will return to him. I had people help me over time for the strangest reasons, and you bet that I will help others when they are in need too.

I rode about 35000 km since replacement without any issue . Strange that you had issues with yours . Big thumbs up for these guys at the shop . They really rock (love the music they re listening to ). As you mentioned, Corona virus makes country close down.. Looks to me like the rear wheel bearings are sealed .. Normally you don't greese a sealed bearing but in a pinch you can use a needle zerk .. Just poke a hole with the needle that attaches to the grease gun via a zerk.. Many Yamaha's have Grease Zerks on the rear suspension so you don't have to take it apart .. Just grease with a grease gun ..
