Reporting in from my very recently (like, 4 hours ago) acquired 13 Pro Max. As I've spent the afternoon/evening taking photos of my cats indoors, the difference in quality over my old 11 is very noticeable. The ultra-wide in particular has gone from a near-gimmick I rarely use because the quality is so blah, to a legitimately useful choice. I'm liking the photographic styles as well, though I noticed they aren't useable with Apple ProRaw. It is nice that I can just bake in some of the personal touches I usually perform on lower-effort jpegs (er, HEIFs), so that's cool. Also, that 1000 nits display - I'm pretty excited to see how this performs in direct sunlight. My 11 at maximum brightness was barely visible in those conditions, so a ~1.4x increase in brightness will likely help!

Not only does the 13 Pro have a wider aperture on the main wide camera, but it also has a larger sensor (1.9 microns on the 13 Pro versus 1.7 microns on the 13 non-Pro).

Great review, I’d love to see a comparison between the 11 Pro and the 13 Pro. The 11 Pro had a lot of barrel distortion on the ultra wide camera, which was very visible, especially shooting at seascapes. It was also a very noisy camera in low light. Without a doubt, I must say that there are two camera tones of the new iPhone 13, "vibrant and cool" are the most pleasing to the eye and they give the feeling of real naturalness of what is really focused with the human eye. Whenever U do a review of the iPhone camera on KZbin, my spirits and feelings are kindled to see the video completely. I agree that iphones video is unsurpassed and that Google makes the image best processing software. It's why I put Gcam on my samsung S10e. A superior lense with a superior software. Best of both worlds.

It is great. But I can mooch off my sister’s 12 for our family vacations for one more year. I definitely notice the difference between my X compared to my parents 11s and my sisters 12. The dynamic range just isn’t there on the X, and I miss the ultra wide so much. But.. I still think a grand is an insane price for a phone lol. It’s not like the pixel 5a is miles behind in its camera yet it costs half the price. I’ve seen examples of the 13 doing some weird distortion things of portrait compared to the pro, while the pro could still be a little better in some areas. I’ll wait to see what the 14 and 14pro bring and if they’d be worth the price or go for a Black Friday deal on the 13pro. The 13pro is def a jump from the 13, more than the 11pr or 12pro were to the 11/12, so it really makes the 13pro stand out that much more compared to the previous 2 years. So if I’m now wowed by the 14, I’d be more than happy with the 13pro a year after it’s release. That battery improvement is mmmmassive. Now if only iOS could do true split screen and multitasking -_-

About 9:19 Apple actually doesn’t seem to electronically stabilise the viewfinder when shooting videos, it only applies the EIS to your video after you’ve finished shooting, so that’s not really a fair comparison (since the software/gyro stabilisation does the majority of the work, just look at the ultrawide which has no OIS and is still incredibly smooth) Not to take anything away from the rest of the video though, the quality is top notch as always and you always have some interesting thoughts I want to hear :)

Has there been any traction on getting apple to return the Smart HDR toggle? I just got the phone, and all of my selfies with both the front facing and rear facing cameras are auto processed to a result that's very sharp and much brighter. Most of my shots are taken indoors in lower light. I've been able to adjust the exposure beforehand and that kind of helps, but I still get somewhat of a painting effect on the photos. I did find a fix that's very inconvenient - taking a live photo, and rechoosing a different keyframe. For some reason, that doesn't apply the auto processing to the same degree (if at all?). I'd love for any video maker to take a look!

You're the only one that mentioned about the contrast and sharpening of the photos profile. why is no one talking about too much post processing by the iphone 13 automatically? I took some pictures and the phone made it weirdly sharp and washed out in colours compared to what i see on screen before snapping the photo.

It is down to iPhone's HDR processing, not the picture styles (which are actually very useful). The HDR processing is rampant and gives disgusting results that you have no control over. Sometimes it will brighten and smudge your photo, sometimes not. You hit the shutter and then pray the AI doesn't ruin your portrait.
