The form factor and functionality on these new iPhones is honestly perfect for recording on the go

I love what you said about people being more used to having phones in their faces than big cameras. I wholeheartedly agree! I have traveled with only my phone for a long time before updating to an action camera a few years ago. Does the trick for me. But I sure am looking forward to upgrading the phone for the sake of better image quality soon. Love traveling with minimal gear that way!

this is, when it comes down to it, a far more sensible and useful review of a (camera) phone than most: i can’t imagine there are many people buying a 13 if they already have a 12. so a comparison between the X and the 13 makes so much more sense. lovely work, as always

That iPhone 10 deserves to be in a framed glass case and artfully on display in your home, Jake. I always think that the value of a camera phone is in the memories it helps me make; to that point, cameras should help refresh my memory, not replace it. Any camera that does that with a minimal amount of friction is a welcome addition to my lifestyle, phone or not.
@JakeFrew3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha that's such a great idea! Maybe I will frame it 😂 Love your perspective!

Really enjoyed this one Jake, especially all of the Mt. Biking footage, love to see more of that worked into your vids if the mood strikes you! I just bought a bike and I’ve been riding some trails with my 13 year old, such a fantastic sport. Also picked up an iPhone 13 Pro coming from the XR and the stabilization is what has shocked me the most. It’s a lot of fun to grab shots on and work into videos and I don’t feel like in most cases people will notice, well at least in my videos. Thanks again for a fun vid, hope all is well.
@JakeFrew3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Tucker!! Ya the stabilization is unreal! Stoked to hear you've been getting into mountain biking tho! Check out 'Fox Dialed' on KZbin, you'll see way more of my mountain biking footage there 😉

We always love seeing what comes from putting great tools in the hands of great creators. It's no accident that the footage shot on this device turned out the way it did. The mark of a true professional is someone who can make much with little. Awesome work.

Creating with an iPhone Mini allows you to focus more on the PARTICIPATING part of your adventures. That’s always been the struggle, do I step away from the activity to set up my camera, gimble or tripod OR do I find a way to document what I’m doing while I’m actually joining in. Love the video!
@AccordingtoNicole3 жыл бұрын
The still shots are awesome. The video footage is still pretty grainy compared to what you could get out of your actual camera, but based on the points you made...the reduction of friction, I do agree that it is a compromise worth making.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Mini. I recently got the Pro and love it. I find myself able to leave my R6 at home more often now that the cameras in the iPhone are so darn good.

So good. I got the 13 pro max when it came out. One year later I totally don’t feel the need for the new upgrade and it works real well for a day to day KZbin camera

Great video Jake! I love the look of nicer cameras, but you really can't beat the convenience and portability of phones these days. Can't deny the quality of the video coming out of them these days either - I use iPhone shots in my videos all the time... anyone else? Keep up the good work.

little bit of advice. When you get your phone in your pocket, always place it with the screen towards your body, so if anything hits you when it's on your pocket it won't hit the screen.

WAIT i've literally been feeling the SAME THING lately haha! my channel has always been mostly vlogs, but lately I've been feeling kind of pulled out of the moment or pressuring my friends if you will when I'm shooting with my mirrorless camera. I've been experimenting making mini vlogs with my iPhone and posting them as reels on IG and I've been loving that whole process for all the same reasons you mentioned. still gonna keep my mirrorless camera around just like you, but man filming with your phone is SO underrated!

First time watching...think it would be an understatement to let you know how great this 8 min video was. From a storytelling perspective to the editing, song selection etc. Well done man! I felt like I was watching a documentary film on Netflix or something. Not to mention the color (grading?) and the main focus which was the phone as a youtube camera...Im getting the 13 or the Pro...haven't decided yet but seeing this either one should be enough for me for now! Subbed, keep it up!

I used to shoot only on an iPhone (and a GoPro sometimes). This summer, I got my first "real" camera for KZbin (and occasional photography), and while I absolutely love the quality I can get out of it, it certainly adds a ton of friction to the process (which sometimes even leads to not getting the shot because I was too slow). I think using the iPhone when the situation demands it or when it's more convenient is definitely a good strategy, especially with how good the phone cameras are getting!

I literally ordered a 13 pro to replace my X 2 days ago and then this. Supplies are short here in the UK so I won't get my phone until 22nd Nov. Delighted to have this to watch in the meantime!

As funny as it may sound. I sold my cameras at I am using an iPhone 13 as well. The best camera to tell a story ist this one you have on hand anywhere. Ever. And it was not my a7 or a6300 with tons on equipment. I hat 15 Kilos on equipment with me in Dresden on a city trip. I didn't touch it once. All I used was the iPhone, the Mantis tripod and a Rode video mic. I participated two trainings at the begin of 2022. One in video and photo shooting in classic a7 SIII and another one with the iPhone. The results were nearly equal. So, is it the a7 SIII worth with tons on spare lenses, filters, batterys and so on? for me a cristal clear NO.

The iPhone shots look very good thanks to wide-angle lens and your "cinematography" hands. Still has a bit of that "textured" feeling coming from much smaller sensor but hey, it's tiny camera on your pocket. And from a story-telling perspective, it doesn't and shouldn't matter. Cheers.
