As someone that has both a sony camera and the iphone 13 pro I almost always prefer the sony A1 in this video. The iphone’s details are over sharpened to a point where it’s losing colors and saturation, and also it makes all kinds of details appear in the same ‘level’ (as in some details should be more visible to the eye than others but the iphone make it all the same)
@zeedan942 жыл бұрын
yes exactly, I can't deny the fact that computational photography works magic for handheld low light photos, but realistically speaking you simply cannot treat a professional camera as a point and shoot and expect amazing photos all the time, the advantage of mirrorless or DSLRs is in their versatility, you're shooting something far away get a telephoto lens, you're shooting in low light get a fast lens, you like how phone photos look set highlights to -100, shadows to +100, and crank the sharpness to the max. A big mistake I believe Max made for lowlight photos with the Sony is not shooting at the right exposure and cranking up the shadows which kills the quality of an image. Given the proper technique/lens, I am positive that a 10 year old DSLR would still beat the latest and greatest from any phone manufacturer.
@fread2222 жыл бұрын
@@Mehwhatevr One of the greatest advantages of a professional camera system is the lens selection it offers. Yet in the comparison he mostly uses plain 24mm when there are lenses ranging from super ultrawide to extreme telephoto which provide unique perspectives that simply cannot be done on the iphone. In comparisons involving zooms, he also simply crops massively into the a1 instead of using lenses with longer focal lengths, effectively making it a tiny cropped sensor comparable to that on the iphone but without the computational photography. He also for some reason refuses to open up the aperture to f/4+ in most of the photos, where the depth of field would be incredibly apparent. Instead he sticks to f11~ which greatly limits the light capturing ability of the camera in order to make it "comparable" to the iphone's physically much smaller sensor and aperture. This comparison is limiting and restraining the mirrorless on all fronts and this could very easily confuse viewers into thinking iphone camera has equal if not better image quality, when that is clearly not the case in 2022, at least not right now.

I can take way nicer (to my taste) portraits with my Fuji X-E3 (not even a pro camera) and F1.2 lens every time I use manual settings, even without RAW post processing as JPEGS from Fujis are great. If I add to it RAW photo + post processing (usually only Lightroom) I can print it in a large format and be very happy with it. I can also take amazing street or landscape photos, but then I need extra lenses with me. They're far superior, but very inconvenient, especially if I compare it with a smartphone. iPhone doesn't come even close if you print anything bigger than 10cm x 15cm. But if you just print small, post photos on the internet, or share with friends, well - there's hardly a better tool at the moment. During my last holidays I was barely using my Fuji. Carrying only an iPhone made me enjoy my time better, and I still took great photos. And that was only iPhone 13 Mini. Now with iPhone 14 Pro it's another step up. I was already considering selling my photography gear, and I totally understand people who simply choose a smartphone over the purposely built camera. What you get for your money now is amazing. So it all depends what you want, how much do you want to pay for it and how much time do you want to spend doing it. For now I keep both just in case...

"Better" is getting highly subjective here. As a pro photographer/cinematographer, I have to say, sharpness isn't the primary measure of a good photo. They are more natural and „organic“ looking as well. The iPhones photos are simply more in your face with their sharpening - and I say all of this as an iPhone user. Also, portrait mode almost always smudges fine detail on the outline of subjects such as hair. Nowhere close to the organic sharpness rolloff of a native wide aperture lens. It’s better than it was on older iPhones, but it’s directly visible and distracting. But well, it does not matter anyway as we all watch photos on really tiny screens 😅

The girl looked almost scary on most of the Iphone pictures because the camera just over sharpened all the lines on her face, while Sony camera made her look cute in every single photo.

Don't forget they mentioned they had to bump up the iso for the Sony to ridiculous levels causing the quality to be terrible... the iPhone 48 mp is using f1.78... if the sony was using a f1.8 lens would of gotten better results...

What's the difference between the Lark C1 and Lark M1?
@MaxTechOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Lark C1 comes with either a lighting port for iPhone or usb-c port for android phones. The M1 comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack cable for other computers or cameras.

we can't deny there's a ton of oversharpening with the iphone. I love the 48mpxl sensor but it would've been great for the 12 to be upgraded to 24. So often when not shooting in raw, the 12mpxl looks good.. but punching in at all and you're reminded that this is a digital camera with just 12 megapixels.

I got 38/38 and I preferred the Sony each time. Maybe I’m allergic to flat bleached look of processed phone photos. Phone photos are like contrasty bleached watercolor pictures whereas DSLR photos convey more like real-life snapshot of a scene from the past.

Very meaningless video!! You don't know how to use a Pro camera, but you've compared it to the iPhone, so if the iPhone is better, why don't you record your videos with the iPhone 14? You will get a good amount of money back

the iPhone only seems "good" because you're literally taking tourist-like wide-angle photos with it (which is what it was designed to do good). If you really wanted to take more professional looking creative photos, you wouldn't have a chance with a smartphone. It's an unfair comparison because both tools are great at something else and you're measuring the A1 according to what the iPhone is good at, which is simple wide angle every day snapshots.

The camera is less important than the lens. One of the biggest advantages of a pro camera is the ability to switch lenses, I don’t like how you just used the 24-70 the whole time, for telephoto you could’ve used the 70-200 or the 200-600 or 400 f2.8 gm, point is it’s all about the lens.

The fact that a 1k smart phone (feels weird that I have to point out; that is not a dedicated camera) can compete with 7k camera is absurd. Camera producers are sleeping and laging so far behind on the "AI" race.

Apple (software + chip) + Canon (lens expertise) would be insane.
@jmpersic2 жыл бұрын
@@TerraThink Right?? If I were Canon or Nikon I'd be worried. With a camera body that accepts Canon/Nikon glass, Apple could do to cameras what they did to watches. I don't see why either Canon or Nikon would go for a deal like that. Maybe Apple needs to buy some camera IP and glass, like Sony did with Minolta. Personally I'd love an Apple-designed mirrorless body I could use with my Nikon lenses, but not holding my breath.

I have an iPhone and a Canon R5. My iPhone is consistently good and is a great snapshot camera, but cannot compete with my Canon when taking a well executed, and carefully planned and edited picture. One of your Sony pictures was blown out, and another one was taken with a slow speed and was not sharp enough. That says something about the execution, which is not a problem with the iPhone.
@olympicstudios41312 жыл бұрын
I legit think that the Sony camera was put up unfairly. It feels like the subjects were not in focus at all, to begin with (especially with the photo of the woman at 3:56 ). We all know that high-quality cameras are amazing when in focus. You guys should look into re-shooting the test to get a better comparison Also, a professional camera is well, for professionals. No professional will take a Raw file and say "I dont want to use a bunch of brushes in photoshop". A raw image is known for having a lot of detail but that detail comes up only after properly editing the image

@creatorshorizon5125 Жыл бұрын
3:50 isnt even a fair comparison. The a1 didnt even Focus on the Woman. If you look closely, the wooden Elements in the Front are Sharp, while she isnt. With bigger sensors, you really have to nail the focus because they create a lot more depth of Field. The iPhone just sharpens everything with the 1x lens, especially from that distance
@sotirislive2 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed these blind test comparisons, the only thing is a laptop screen at even full screen per picture is way to small to come to a proper judgement let alone split screen, you should do these with at least a 30 inc monitor and above to get a better understanding of sharpness and over sharpness and fine detail, all of those things are very compressed on a small laptop. Thanks keep up the good work 👌

I literally only preferred the iPhone twice, I just don’t think ProRAW looks realistic or is worth using over RAW, the over-processing and oversharpening and baked in overdone dynamic range all make it look just like a crappy JPEG… but with some extra editing tools.

Love the channel and videos but on this one, I believe we need to be careful with drawing a proper conclusion. These kind of tests often seem to suggest that smartphone cameras can fully replace regular cameras. But I (still) see them as rather complementary. Leaving aside zoom capabilities, it might be true that in 90% of all cases smartphone cameras might perform as well as (or even outperform) regular cameras. But the reality for me (as having the privilege of owning both devices) is that I have my Sony for the 10% tail cases where I am on a photowalk and want to take a photo in very challenging (light) conditions, also with a view to do some comprehensive post-shot editing in lightroom. It is clear that my iPhone is sufficient (or even superior when also considering its weight compared to a regular camera) to take a nice spontaneous point and shoot landscape picture when being on the way to work. At the same time, I would certainly not even consider choosing the iPhone over a full frame camera for taking Wild Life shots or photos of the milky way. Maybe we should all take a rest and stop trying to find the ‚one and only‘ camera and instead realize that (for the moment) both categories of cameras have their right to exist in a way that people then can choose the one that best fits their needs (acknowledging that for many people the smartphone might be the more obvious candidate in most situations).

In low light situations you never use 64k ISO, you shoot wide open at f/1.2 and at max 6400 ISO and then you bring up the exposure in post. No professional photographer would shoot like this…
@markwornom1050 Жыл бұрын
There's no doubt that the iPhone does a great job with the small sensor. However, there are two things that work against the iPhone in my opinion. 1. The green biased WB is always there and gives away the iPhone almost immediately. 2. The Sony has much richer color variations, probably because the iPhone is only shooting 8 bit? The iPhone images very often look overprocessed and that detracts from them appearing high quality and professional. Also, I'm sure the Sony would catch up a lot of ground in night shots if it was also allowed to expose for the same amount of time as the iPhone, 3 sec in the one example. All in all, I have to give Apple a lot of credit.
