I just got the 15 Pro Max after years of using an XR. The jump is colossal. Battery is the LEAST impressive jump, just because my XR was able to survive the full day so it was never a problem (Though I can tell the 15PM is probably able to do two full days, considering I've never had this thing go below 70%; I'm too disciplined with charging). The 120htz is INSANE. It's probably the best part of the upgrade. Everything is so smooth; I hadn't realized how slow 60htz was until I was really sitting there, feeling the flow. USB-C was a long time coming, and I had multiple laptop chargers that were ready to help with the switch from lightning cables. It's fast, but like I said, batteries have been good enough for half a decade now. The screen size increase is honestly not as hype as I was hoping, but it's still better. I don't know what the general consensus is, but I'd be fine with a 7"+ screen; this thing doesn't stretch any of my pockets, but that might be different for other people. I'm hyped that it will be able to handle the Apple Intelligence stuff; that could end up being a requirement for the years ahead if it ends up being good

If it causes her any issues I will spend the $89 to upgrade the battery at an Apple store. Screen has nearly zero wear, and I've never used a screen protector. Similar, 264 cycles still 100% - because I set it to 80% max charge and avoid wireless & fast charging if possible. I have a PhD in electrochemistry so I could explain in detail why - but tldr - do what I do and never let it go below 20%. Also have it set to battery saving mode unless you need the power! Can be done easily with shortcuts such as “stop charging” turn on “power saving” etc! And once it’s set to 80% Max you can confidently plug it on whenever you can without worrying.
@fasn2794 ай бұрын
Why pay so much for a powerful phone to handicap it lol, go for the lowest version, heck go a few years older and save the money
@Chris-Lynch4 ай бұрын
@@fasn279if you understood what I was saying, it’s not a handicap, it’s a feature of the battery that would apply to any phone. Finally having the option to keep it within the middle 60% (as someone who knows quite a bit about batteries, and specifically how sensitive LiCo batteries are - the ones in all phones because they have the highest energy density) enables me to do what you have just suggested and make it last for years without any deterioration in the battery! Or upgrade and sell it with a battery at 100% (which can make a huge difference to what you can sell it for and make an upgrade cost less than 10%). Also, by far the most important ability with this feature is being able to leave it plugged in and not damage the battery! And if you tend to use your phone and iPad connected to Ethernet whilst at your desk - this becomes an extremely important factor.
@awsalhaj7363 ай бұрын
Im using the cable that came with the phone and it gets warm while charging. So what can i do in regards to fast charging
@Chris-Lynch3 ай бұрын
@@awsalhaj736 First of all use a different cable. And give the socket a really good cleaning with a small amount of isopropanol. You can buy small bottles of it pure from a pharmacy. After that, if it’s still getting hot there’s a problem inside the phone at the point where the socket is atatched to the phone motherboard. If you are out of your apple plus or never had it, take it to a well rated independent repair shop and ask them to fix it and put a new battery in at the same time. Technically you could have an argument with Apple about it because British law states that regardless of warranty or agreements, an expensive product like that should be expected to work normally for 6 years! If you mention you know that then they might fix it for free! Also, when fully charging especially with a case on you should use a cooler. There are plenty available to buy that stick on the back using MagSafe. There are a few that integrate charging with cooling as a pass through and I use that if I ever use wireless charging. Otherwise I try to keep it plugged in as much as reasonably possible using a MagSafe battery so the phone battery sits at around 80% all the time.

Wired, using a charger that can monitor temperature (like Anker 20w or 30w chargers) definitely helps with battery health/capacity. I just upgraded to a 15 Pro, my prior phone was a 13 mini and the day I switched to my 15 Pro I still had 90% battery capacity. I bought the 13 mini whenever they were released. So it was 3 years old and still had 90% of its battery capacity. I do not recommend wireless charging because of battery degradation.

iPhone 12 Pro Max: Maximum Capacity listed at 87% which considering I’ve had it since Oct 2020, I’m happy with. Back of phone was dropped on cement (with a clear wireless charging type case) and has a shattered appearance, but luckily has caused no issues at all in terms of use or camera quality. I don’t use the optimized charging feature, regularly charge it to 100% and have no real issues. I probably won’t upgrade until next years model.

My iPhone 15 pro max has 221 cycles, and is still at 100% maximum capacity. I never use wireless chargers, especially built in car ones. I only use MagSafe. My phone chargers all night when I am not using it. My charging preferences has always been set to optimized. I don’t plan to upgrade this year unless the 16 can really “wow” me.

Mine has gone down to around 94% but still gets me through the day perfectly fine. Still hasn’t been as good as my 13 Pro Max after launch though, that phone still has bonkers battery life despite being at 82% battery health and slightly edges out my 15PM which is much newer, at least for my use case. I see no point in upgrading unless there’s a drastic change like improved internal cooling. The processor in the 15 Pro series is fast but it also gets warm real quick.

Wireless charging actually generates more heat so it degrades the battery more on the long run. Would not recommend using it over night or in the car when its already hot.

My 15 pro max is down to 88% with 379 cycle count, had did since Sept '23 I have been using it as a powerbank here and there, which explains my higher cycle count. But all in all, it's been holding up. Might consider a battery replacement once I'm closer to 80%

Mine is at 94% at 225 cycles. My use case was previously lighter until May which is when I installed my CarPlay compatible headunit in my car and have dailied wireless CarPlay ever since. Also recently started playing Zenless Zone Zero though my battery already had a decrease in battery health about some time ago in early 2024. Honestly, I’m not really concerned about battery life unless my health percentage suddenly dips down a huge bit and even then, a 1% drop every month is somewhat expected for typical battery degradation and Apple’s software might not even be calculating it properly as it’s merely an estimate.

Battery Life for my 14 Pro Max is now at 88%. I see no strong reason to "upgrade" and plan to keep this for another year. I used to upgrade every year. So far, my 14 Pro Max has been my favorite. USB-C and extra side buttons are just not enough to make me want to upgrade.
@GabrielIgnacio5 ай бұрын
As much as I love USB-C, the lightning port had a more satisfying ‘click’ or ‘thunk’ to it when you plugged a cable in and felt just a bit more secure. I will say though that having more external device support as well as faster USB speeds thanks to the port change and standard change is really nice for a change, specially since iPads have had USB-C for the longest time now.
