I'm in a similar position. I have the iPhone 12. It's still as good as new, the battery aside. It's now down to about 76% on the battery health. It's getting close to needing a battery replacement. My only reservation is that I bought it when I worked in China. I can't make audio Face Time calls which is something I would like to do.

As long as you are not upgrading every year, it’s okay. I upgraded from iPhone 11, 2019 with 64GB of storage to iPhone 15 Pro Max, 2023 with 256GB of storage and I really felt the difference! It’s worth the upgrade! I’m happy. 😊

FR im from iphone X and the major decision i had from upgrading to 15 pro max instead of a cheaper 13 or 14 pro max is the USB type C, so that it can use my existing chargers for my gadgets and ipad... i only own one lightning cable and it always get broken yearly so one less thing to worry about.

I had the 13 pro max and I jumped to the 15 pro max. A lot of similarities between those two phones where it would be hard to notice the differences between them. For me, I noticed the screen brightness, the weight of the phone, the cellular connection, WiFi 6E, the always on display, and the biggest feature is the type C. I use Type C accessories on my phone, microphones and portable SSD to move my data without having my info in the cloud. Also pass through charge comes in handy when in a pinch. For me the difference between are minor and not suited for everyone. But for me it was worth it.

It might be your service. I found the same thing with my iPhone 14 Pro. There are many different signal waves of 5G. Since they don’t update the towers as often as they do the 5G in your phone, the older 5G phones will have better service. That is why the batteries deplete faster. My iPhone 12 mini had way better service than my current iPhone 14 Pro

I’ve bought every single IPhone since iPhone X came out. And the real difference between the rest of them and the 15th series is type c. It’s so convenient to have just one charger for all of your devices. So I don’t see the reason to upgrade to the 16 line-up. With titanium frame iPhone 15 pro max can last for years to come

I just upgraded from my iPhone 13 Pro to the 15 Pro Max and it feels more of a convenience upgrade. I use my phone to film a lot and having most of my devices on USB-C has been great for travel. But I agree that if you're an everyday user of regular phone stuff, the 13 or 14 is solid and worth saving some money.

The 13 Pro Max has left me unwilling to upgrade. It's too good still. And by rarely charging past 90% it still has 96% battery health after over 650 cycles. Until there's no, or less dynamic island and all cameras are 48MP I'm not upgrading.

The real question is overall quality. I can only afford to buy an iPhone when I REALLY need a new one. That seems to happen every 5 years, so I want to get one that will last another 5. What I'm really looking for is, "Does this have the same quality I've become used to?" Whether new features are worth it can take years to sort out and so doesn't really enter into my decision. They're just blips on the overall quality question.

I decided to stop being a knucklehead. I upgraded every year and I'm done with that. I have the 14 Pro Max and I'm content. I bought the 256g version and it does all I need it to do. The only temptation for my with the 15 and soon, the 16 would be the extra zoom and the sensor binning to 24 megapixels instead of 12. Other than that, I don't really care about USB-c or the 8g ram, nor do I feel the need for AI. I guess I'll wait for the 17 or 18 series. It's only for phones that I've had this desire to upgrade. I still rock the M1 Mac mini and M1 Macbook Air and haven't felt any urge to upgrade. Weird.

The family car compatible cable quandary (say THAT 5x, dude) can be resolved with MagSafe chargers. The much maligned Apple MagSafe Battery Pack actually excels as a car charger with a 20w car charger and Lightning cable. Aside from not leaving a 20w charger plugged in when parked, it’s an easy way to charge any iPhone from 12 on. Snap on to charge and drive, pop off and wander. Easy. Need more power, just unplug and leave it on the phone.

Have the 13 Pro Max and this is definitely the longest one gone without getting a new phone. Prior to this phone, I had Android phones and got new ones every 2 years. Definitely curious about the iPhone 16 Pro Max since it might be a big enough upgrade for me to jump on. Wasn't the case with either the 15 or 14 Pro Max phones

I loved it but ultimately returned it a week later because I had a 14 Pro. I liked that it was lighter, more comfortable, and the camera was able to handle lighting blowout way better (14P just can't handle bright light in background, blowouts it out to preserve subject) Might go for the 16PM might wait for refreshed 17PM.

What I like about the 15 Pro Max is the weight of the titanium although I prefer the gloss of the stainless steel on my old iPhone 13 Pro. USBC is appreciated and I have been dabbling in spatial video recording to play back on Meta Quest 3, but that is about it. I sometimes feel I would have been better off getting a second hand 13 Pro Max.

I literally can't use over 128gb and I'm a heavy user, my games in total take over 70gb and I download on KZbin and Netflix, maybe if you often record everything in 4k AND not use iCloud with all the things mentioned beforehand, then yes you'd need more than 256gb but no way would you fill it up even then

People value different things. I work as a tradesman in houses with no signal occasionally and I would love to have 1tb+ of storage and I could easily fill that with music and audio books. Camera and battery life are important to me so I’m looking forward to upgrading to an iPhone 16 Pro Max. My current iPhone 7 is perfectly fast enough for me though and I have zero interest in any of the promised AI features.

256 GB of flash memory does IN FACT not cost 100 dollars. They are overcharging you for something that should be standard. And they do it just to walk you up the product ladder. And because they do it, the rest of the industry can do it now too. Also, on the USB-C front: that single change (plus the removal of the hideous notch last year) made the iPhone an actual option for me. Granted, I still prefer my S24, but it actually made me look at it for more than a couple minutes. Archaic, proprietary ports shouldn't be a thing unless there is a damn good reason for its existence. Just my 2 cents.

I disagree. I bought a 15 pro max and Pros for my kids and tossed the lightning cords (in a box) so now usb c everywhere for everything! Also downloading to an SSD is so much better for those who have kids that take a gazillion pics. I might not get the 16 but I love my 15 pro max!

I don't live int he cloud as I don't have 100% control of my data. I just use iCloud for syncing. iPhone 12 Pro MAX 256GB. But now starting KZbin using Final Cut Camera 256GB won't be enough for file storage. Yes I can rig up an external SSD. Still not sure what route I will go with the 16 Pro MAX.

I currently have the 14 Pro Max. My carrier offers an upgrade every two years with no change in price of service. I'm going to take advantage of this and switch to the 16 Pro Max when it becomes available. The differences between the 14 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max are more significant. Thinner bezels, Action button, Capture button, Apple Intelligence (being able to take full advantage of this feature on 16 PM vs 14 PM), Titanium vs Stainless Steel, and larger battery. The move to 6.9" I can do without, but the 16 Pro at 6.3" is too small. 1st world problems . 🤣😳
