My 11pro max started heating up since the update, but I thought it was finally time for an upgrade, so I did to the 15 pro max. Now both phones are heating up the same which made me thing it’s normal and nothing was wrong with my 11pro max. Watching this video makes me realize it’s definitely the iOS 17 update that’s causing all the over heating.

Apple’s chip are more power efficient, but also consume more energy at higher levels of performance according to geekerwan. You also don’t need to be an engineer to understand that Apple’s assembly of parts in a device is not even trying to dissipate heat unlike Samsung’s actual dissipating vapor chamber.

@@moby1kanobActually no, it’s not about being a sheep. I just bought a 15 Pro Max about 10 days ago and i also have a Z Fold 5 from Samsung. And i can confidently say that my iPhone is getting wayyyy hotter when i am on a call. I never had over heating issue on my Fold 5 or the S23 Ultra that i had before buying the iPhone. Not at such a degree. The 15 PM is getting burning hot. Like it’s literally concerning kind of hot. It cools down after couple of minutes but the overheating issue is real whether a software issue or hardware issue but it’s a real thing and no, Samsung doesn’t over heat to such concerning temperatures.

Good test, you put in effort to document the comparison. With this said: The Titanium issue has to be looked at two fold: Titanium acts as an insulator, much better than Aluminum, both ways. So a temperature measured outside the titanium plate should then be converted to a temperature INSIDE the phone. So for 90 degrees measured outside of the phone, knowing the Titanium heat conduction factor, the temperature calculated inside the phone will be more that the temperature inside the Aluminum phone. How much more? By the difference between conduction factors. So if the conduction factor of Ti is half of Al and you measure the same outside housing temp .......

I think that's the problem with cases like this, same with "fast decline of battery health". It will always never be exactly the same circumstance as any other with the same phone or problem. There are just too many variables at play when trying to test it out or to figure out things. While yes there actually might be a problem in the phone or software but it might be harder to track down and easier for people to just conclude that ALL iPhone 15 that are out in the market as susceptible with overheating issues.

Very interesting test. The results kind of make sense. I'd be surprised if the body material played a huge role between the Stainless Steel 14 Pro and the Titanium 15 Pro. Aluminium has a thermal conductivity of around 236 W/m/K vs ca 14.3 for stainless steel and 22.4 for Titanium. The stainless steel will therefore conduct heat at the slowest rate of the 3 materials used. I think it has a lot more to do with the way the computing power is used as well as the heat transfer area of the larger phones.

This was a great charging video session. I learned a lot between all the distinctive models of the iPhones and the Samsung. I have a iPhone 15 Pro Max and for the first few days, I’ve been using MagSafe charging for the most part. Yes, it’s heating up only at the magnetic charging part And it takes maybe about over 3 to 4 hours to have a full battery charge without using the phone too much. Me personally I have not experienced any overheating issues maybe because the protective case that I have my OtterBox and are usually don’t use high definition stuff like that just the basic essentials of texting looking at videos a couple, Luke camera pictures here and there nothing too extreme or over-the-top. Just like you said, there are a lot of variables that these phones may overheat, and the software issue could be a possibility. A titanium issue could be a possibility, and also what you touch on certain topics via Forbes and other sources they sound completely little bit satirical I would say, but nothing that should hinder other consumers to buy the product. Thank you.

My galaxy s21 FE that was 500 bucks brand new charges in 30-40 minutes (from 10 percent to 85 percent) with my wired Samsung super fast charger. It also doesn't get even remotely hot while it charges, and has wireless charging too, which I don't use because it's slower. Charging is one of the most important aspects of a phone, and apple is wayyy behind in that category.

Electrical engineer here, it's to do with the fact that wireless chargers use induction, much like induction cook-tops which produce large amounts of heat in less conductive metals, so yes the physics principles used for wireless charging will naturally heat up surrounding components and will cause batteries to deteriorate faster. Fast charging will also cause issues as the heat produced is proportional to the square of the current supplied through a cable (e.g. 3x charging speed will result in 9x heating). I try to avoid fast charging unless I need my phone charged quickly in a pinch, and I never use wireless chargers.

The most suitable guy to report about this issue - after the famous "Bend Gate", is this another "Heat Gate" in the making for iPhone? 🔥

Should take wireless/Qi charging into account as well. I’ve noticed my phones get a lot hotter when charging wirelessly.

This made me happy because I just upgraded from the 12pm to the 15pm and all I've heard from friends is I'm getting a portable pocket heater

It actually happened to my 14 Pro Max, while charging wireless and doing a video call at the same time. It became very hot and stopped charging. I guess it’s also a iOS 17 issue.

I just got the 15pro and during updating and it was getting so hot! I returned it and explained what’s going on and I even showed the representative the difference on their display that the iPhone 15pro is hotter than the iPhone 15pro max or 15 plus or 15 and all they can say is “that’s weird only the 15pro is hotter than the rest maybe you should get a pro max instead “ 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ .. then the manager came and said trying getting a different color! Like it’s gon make difference and I still exchange it for a different color but it’s still doing the same thing!

I wonder if table materials affect the temperature as well. I would imagine that it’s hotter on a wooden tabletop.

Thanks for the review. As I think we all know running a demanding app and charging at the same time will cause any phone to heat up. I am sure there are apps out there that probably still need to be optimized for the iPhone 15. Software updates will deal with this.

Been using my 15 Pro since launch day. I never had any issues with the battery or the heat. It never heated up. I use it a lot throughout the day. A lot of messaging because of work. A lot of pictures are taken every day. Average amount of phone calls are made every day. A little bit of gaming every now and then. Always max brightness when outside. Always listen to music in the car. GPS is always on in the background for Google Maps Timeline's sake. The battery lasts me the whole day very comfortably. It just doesn't run out. I use the Apple Magsafe wireless charger at night. I don't use it when it charges cuz I'm SLEEPING!!! As I said, been using it since launch which is about 10 or so days now. I didn't experience any issues, it's going solid and I'm very happy with it. This is my first iPhone since the iPhone 5 as well.... Just wanted to get my bit in...I'm open to listening to other people's experiences as well... Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm getting 5-7 hours of screen on time on average. Generally around the 6 hours 15-20 mark.

I am from Germany. 2017 I bought iPhone 7 plus and that had heating issues. But during 2020 and all I never had heating issues may be battery deteriorated or os update or signal strength in my area improved. If iPhone 15 has this issue I hope it will change after sometime

When I heard that the new apple 15 pro max were going to be able to play console games. My initial thought was.... with no cooling fan or cooling methods? I'm no apple genius. But I believe playing those games will make the phone a lot hotter than what we're seeing in this video.
