One of the things that intrigued me the most at Apple's iPhone 15 event was their promise that the A17 Pro would be capable of playing triple A games, and while those games may not be out yet, I was still interested to see what the gaming experience was like on the iPhone 15 Pro and if it could be a viable gaming platform and I walked away surprised and encouraged by the state of iPhone gaming because this has the potential to be a Nintendo Switch replacement.

I've been saying that all day. I think if Nintendo did team up with Apple, they'll use what nintendo teach them and use it against them just like Sony did, which pretty much will make Apple a worthy competitor. I don't think nintendo wants to create competition, therfore Apple has to figure it out by themselves. Don't get it twisted though, nintendo can make a powerful console or handheld that souks some iPhone 15,ps5 and xbox but, making powerful consoles never worked for nintendo. Every powerful console they made did bad, but the last powerful consoles and handheld always still well. So From a business point of view, what souk you do? Take a big risk making a powerful console that mite not sell? Or last powerful console that will make you money even if it flops? See my point? This is how nintendo looks at things.

The last piece of the puzzle is a dock with a built-in fan to keep the phone cool, charges the phone and has video output for connecting to a TV/screen. This would turn it into a Nintendo Switch replacement. Also, Apple needs to offer the functionality to have the phone screen turn off when docked and output video at the screen's native resolution.

Also the external screen is this weird tall and skinny aspect ratio and that combined with the thickness makes the phone kinda bad to use when it's closed so you feel the need to open it all the time and then its a 2 handed device, basically a tablet, and not that functional for everyday use. So basically it is a compromised phone and a tiny tablet. I personally think that the candybar design is the best design for a phone.

So…RE4 is now up for preorder on iOS (DEC21) release. But yeah- it’s $59.99 (w/bonus content) and $19.99 for Extra DLC and $2.99-$9.99 for “weapons upgrade” packages! I may be in the minority- but this seems to cost WAAAAY more overall that it did on console and PC!! What a way to milk a franchise, especially for an old (but excellent) IP!

Thanks for making this video I’ve been trying to find more info about using my 15PM for gaming and there hasn’t been much information. The cloud gaming is awesome but seems very situational since you need a strong wifi or data connection. Would love more games to be able to be played natively on the phone.

I personally got an iPhone SE 2022 specifically for mobile gaming and gaming connected to my TV, and it does work really well. Considering it's got the 2 years old A15 chip and 4gb of RAM, I'm actually shocked that 90% (if not more) of my games are running at a locked 60 fps. The low resolution display might help increasing performance. I actually like that the SE have a 16/9 display, it does have very minimal bezels when connected to my TV. As opposed to the wider displays of newer iPhones design. Also the LCD screen ensure I won't ever get any screen burn-in. Really happy about my purchase. I updated from 2014's iPad Air 2, the jump in performance is similar as going from PS4 to PS5 to be honest, though on a smaller scale.

Thanks for covering gaming Greg! Was one question I wanted to ask though, with games you played using a controller - did you try playing them without a controller & if so did you notice the frame rate go down/get less consistent? Logically you would expect no difference, but there was/is a bug with the iPhone 14 Pro which causes frame drops in a lot of games but only when you touch the screen. For games like Mario Kart Tour it’s particularly noticeable and there’s no controller support there so would be good to know if it’s something you noticed at all?

I had all my end of the year wishlist lined up and ready for purchasing this December. Mix of work and play and I needed: a video camera and a new phone for work (old phone was an iphone7 lmao and some apps I needed don't run properly anymore) and I wanted a portable console. Was gonna go with a DJI Osmo 3, some rando Android flagship and an Ally. Last minute, decided to ditch everything for an iPhone 15 Pro. No regrets so far. That said, I'm not a very picky gamer and I will play anything as long as it's interesting so your mileage may vary. Ended up mostly playing some old remastered classics from apple arcade like Megaman X, Castlevania SOTN, Street Fighter and RE Village. Looking for a good open world RPG though. Tried Genshin Impact but never could stomach gacha games and the anime aesthetic is okay BUT can grate on me over time. Could use something more "traditional" i.e. Elder Scrolls-esque. Any recommendations?

I ordered the Backbone USB C controller and encountered two major issues: 1. Doesn’t work! It seems the firmware needs to be updated to work for the iPhone 15 series and this to date still requires an Android device! What!? Otherwise, it doesn’t work!! Even with the downloaded AppStore app, it doesn’t recognise the controller. 2. One of my camera lenses of my 15 Pro sits right against the hard plastic of ❤the backbone. Placing the phone in and removing from the controller causes it to scrape against this hard plastic. Would be seriously worried that it will damage camera! BUT, I sent it back, as it doesn’t work with the iPhone (see 1. Above)

I tried this by connecting to my Tv hdmi and it outputs at 1080p for iPhone games (I believe is 720 for ps remote play). According to Apple it should output at 4k for native games though. So may it’s a matter of what USB cable we use

It's more likely output resolution, I don't think the games will actually render at 4K. They will run at the same resolution as when you play on the phone screen (so often under 1080p), then it will be upscaled to 4K. Similar to Xbox One S now that I think about it.

The thing is while it’s a cool and novel idea, if you can afford the newest iphone, you can afford a switch and/or a ps5. And while it’s cool that you can natively play those games on the iphone, it just seems more comfortable to play it on a dedicated handheld or console than trying to use button controls on a tiny screen. Not to mention it’ll be 60-70 dollars per game, and if you have to pay that much then why would someone choose their iphone over their console, since you can’t play it on your console unless you double dip? It’s very cool but just not very practical, I’m not getting the newest iphone but if I did at most I’d just buy 1 game on it and play when I have nothing else to do and am bored asf, other than that then no way

Screen dimming after like 30 seconds of gameplay, overheating issues, ultimate gaming phone my ass! Iphone cant run any demanding games reliably and genshin is definitely not running well on this garbage device. After just 15-20 minutes the screen brightness is reduced significantly, after 30-40 minutes you will probably need external lighting to see stuff . After 50-60 minutes of gameplay, the fps is nowhere to be seen , the phone has already turned into a frying pan for your hands and the game can even crash. You can see the screen dimming even in this lackluster demonstration its noticable even with artificial studio lighting.

Guys imagine this...... Apple and Sony bring the PlayStation store to ios to play every single console game ever made for the Ps5, I mean....we do now have 3nm chipset capable of AAA games, and Sony and Apple have been together through a lot in history ....😂😂😅😅💯💯 agree ??
