Definitely with you on the high frame rates. I'm hoping for 4k 240fps and FHD 480fps. I doubt it will be from Apple though. My 4 year old Huawei P40 Pro does beautiful bursts of 960fps in FHD and 7680fps in 720p. I'm surprised more phones aren't even trying to compete in this area.

It's true that there isn't much difference compared to the iPhone 15, but I think it's worth waiting for the iPhone 16 Pro Max and switching. Just for the 4K at 120 frames per second, it's worth it-plus, let's not forget that all of this is in HDR, and the video quality we know from Apple is top-notch. The differences may be minimal, but they're worth it.
@THEDPJOURNEY3 ай бұрын
I’d say they’d be worth it if you’re coming from the 14. But not the 15, unless 120 frames is essential to your workflow, which is not the case in 98% of filmmakers
@alexdenton65863 ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY Yes, I come from the 15 Pro Max, and as you said, 120 frames per second is never really necessary. However, is it enjoyable and much smoother? Absolutely. I know it's not the best comparison in the world, but for example, when I watch a video game at 120 or 144 frames per second and then switch back to KZbin to watch videos at 30 or 60, it feels rough. It's not smooth, and it's unpleasant to watch. What makes me happiest is that Apple has pushed this trend so quickly, which means the rest of the industry will follow. Eventually, KZbin will catch up as well, and when that day comes, it will finally be the end of slow videos. We’ll finally have smoothness everywhere.

Also I wish BlackMagic would do something about their wave form size so I could enlage it and decide where I want it put. Maybe also a couple of programmable buttons on the app so I could esily call up false colour or whatever. Lastly I do hope that BeastGrip redesign thir cages so you can use the extra buttons on the iPhone and also redesign the awful way they attach a handle with a bit of bent metal. Its for both of these reasons (and the ridiculous size and weight) I sold my Beastgrip cage almost as soon as it arrived from the US.

Two things- Sensor and Lenses. Upgrade the sensor to one inch, many chinese companies already have it. You can’t beat physics. One inch sensor is the minimum size you need. Additional apple designed proprietary lenses (Tele, Macro, Wide) with wide aperture which can be magnetically attached to the existing lenses. Physics is physics. See Vivo X 100 ultra in low light. Easily crushes any iphone till date. So software is important but its the hardware that stands the test of time. But its Apple. They could have done this years ago. But they are just milking it with petty incremental upgrades every year. Well…

Even if it looks so basic to be mentioned, but a bigger sensor size + computing photography will be a real game changer for the iPhone. Larger sensors are more like a myth these days honestly, sensor tech now is lightyears better than 10 years ago when the only way to get better quality was to build bigger sensors. And yeah, the massive difference in exposure and even quality between each lens is pretty frustrating honestly. I really hope that 48MP sensor would be the same as the 24mm. Am I the only one who could almost care less about the ultra wide?! Give me a technological focus if anything on the telephoto even over the standard (wide). Also even as a DIT, I see little value giving ProResRAW in the iPhone. ProRes generally is great, but its real benefit is throwing out the additional image processing, not the container, and RAW already while awesome to ubiquitously have access to, has little to no value for a phone for anyone but a high end (not KZbin) pro who needs to bring the camera into and existing RAW workflow that MUST use a phone for certain scenes. I would actually rather see a good h.265 container with 150-200Mbit in LOG and no NR over even the existing ProRes422 since that’s actually a bloated container for the image from the phone even before we consider RAW.

Another thing about raw vs your request of no NR. Raw as you know doesn’t have any NR. And the advantage is how it would fit in a bigger production as a B cam. I don't think RAW makes sense for the iPhone- no way you are going to want 48MP RAW video - and just using the small section of the sensor that represents an 8K image would be terrible for most applications. Give me a down-sampled 4K image and ProRes is optimal with these small sensors- the down-sampling really helps (that's why the Sony FX30 has a nicer image in adequate light than the FX3 - it's down-sampled!) RAW means NO downsampling. I guess we could ask for 4:4:4 color - but I doubt that is going to make any real-world difference...
@THEDPJOURNEY3 ай бұрын
I thought aboutt he same thing, but if you look at their RAW photos, they're 12 MP coming out of the 48MP 24mm sensor, which made me think that mayeb they're line skipping or pixel binning to get the RAW photos. So maybe they can do the same in Video and give us an oversampled 4K raw. On a technical level this means the AD converter is placed after the conversion process to convert the oversampled 8K, so might be a different flavour of ProRes that's similar to BRAW, where it's a smart 4444 container that acts like raw
@GlobalShutterNY3 ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY Interesting - since technically real RAW is supposed to be unprocessed... Not sure it would add more than a ProRes recording of the downsampled sensor.

@THEDPJOURNEYАй бұрын
It’s like saying “no need for RAW”. Something that doesn’t apply to everyone but is definitely needed in most (if not all) professional scenarios
@axelfoley1768Ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY what you're meant to say is... it's NOT needed in most professional scenarios. RAW for photos is needed for post-processing since it allows non-destructive editing before converting to a printable file, yet RAW is not needed for video. ProRes 422 HQ is not RAW is it? I'll ask you, did you ever hear crunchy sound due to 16bit audio from the last 42 yrs? Nope! Believe me it's not that I've settled for 16bit audio, hell, audio has gone downhill from there since most audio compression codecs downgrade the sound one way or another. But I can assure you that 32bit uncompressed audio is overkill, a total waste of time. Similar to comparing ProRes 422 HQ to RAW, the RAW is overkill, unless a video house demands it for their own reasons. But I can't see what those reasons would be unless for archival pedantics. Anyway, bits in audio is not analogous to codecs for photo & video. That's my point 🪂 I assure you that 32bit audio is definitely not needed in most professional scenarios unless a client demands it for some strange reason. 32bit audio is just for people who don't know about audio & are being pretentious or employing it just for the hell of it out of ignorance. Nothing wrong with using it, fine go ahead, but it's also gonna put massive strain on the camera's/phone's CPU, especially if you're at big sampling rates like 384kHz. But audibly it's a waste of time.
@THEDPJOURNEYАй бұрын
@axelfoley1768 Actually my analogy to video was not super accurate, simply because 32 bit float has the solution to the one major issue every none pro audio recordist suffer from… that’s adjusting levels and preventing it from clipping. So 32 bit is more useful actually to none audio specialists than it is to audio specialists who do it for living. When I’m shooting with my camera, I have tons to worry about to retain details and highlights, prevent shadows from crushing, focus, etc… I don’t want to add another item to worry about such as proper audio levels and audio clipping. And for people using iPhone for filmmaking, they are the perfect segment that needs a hassle free solution that doesn’t add more challenges to them. That’s why you can see how so many filmmakers ignore audio all together and just add a music track to their videos and call it a day. And when they want to go advanced, foley would just be easier than field recording.
@axelfoley1768Ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY I misunderstood your aim. I was talking about audio 'quality'. Your scenario is a different matter. But I think you misunderstand. 32bit float is an internal processing method, it's good for audio production engineers bc it minimizes cumulative rounding-errors when utilizing lots of audio-effects & constant bounce-downs. It has nothing to do with dynamic-range (relative to clipping). Since you're aim is to avoid clipping (audio distortion) when recording, then it's a different matter. A Boeing 747 jumbo jet engine produces a sound level of around 140 decibels when measured at close range. A 24bit A/D converter can handle it without clipping. You think 32bit is for convenience so that you won't need to set audio-levels, but that is misleading, since really it's more important to check the dynamic-range spec of your A/D converters. There is a problem bc people think they're recording at 32-bit, but it's just 32bit floating-point calculations internally, having nothing to do with dynamic-range.
