I’m with you David, I too am an Apple fanboy too. I have the AirPods 4 ANC and love the sound signature better than the AirPods Pro 2nd gen. I actually downgraded from my iPhone 14 Pro Max, to the iPhone 16 plus. I really didn’t use the camera that much (I had to have both of my legs amputated well above the knees since we last talked, I’ve had severe complications since the surgery so I am a 24/7 bed care patient now.) so the camera is of little use for me. I don’t miss the always on display or the 120hz refresh rate. The 16 plus really suits me better given my life changes in the last couple of years.

The last iPhone I used was an iPhone 13 before I got the Pixel 8 Pro, so I know it's gonna be a worthy upgrade. One of the things that really caught my eye about this channel is that you talked up the iPad even when everyone was bagging on it. And while I agree with the reasons people were bagging on it, I think there's some value in the good things too. When the M4 iPad came out, I was so disappointed by it that I actually hard switched to a Microsoft Surface, a Samsung s24 ultra, and a Samsung Watch 6 Classic. And during that time I realized that there really is no "best" system. That all of this is really a mixed bag of positives and negatives. And the more experience I get with everything, the more I appreciated the "finding the good" in the iPad reviews. Because now as I'm reverting back to Apple, I don't see a flaw as "wow, this sucks, why does Apple do it this way?" But now I'm looking at way to work within the ecosystem. How to be aware of the failings and work around them to still be effective. I learned with android that I couldn't find-tune everything the way I wanted it to, it was just working within a system and hoping for the best. And if I have to work within a system and hope for the best, then I think Apple is the best system for me to be caged in. Which is why I went back. So now that I'm back in this cage, I appreciate content that shows me how to navigate the cage, and make the best of it. And I think this channel does that well. It talks about the features and the use cases, but it's not overly hyperbolic as a sales pitch. I don't need a KZbinr to talk specs to me. I already know what the specs are, but how can I make this useful for my life? So watching you navigate these situations is very relatable, and I appreciate the content. ------ Switching to the S24 Ultra for awhile had me really hyper fixated on what phones other people were using, and how unaware MOST people were of what phones they were using or even that new phones come out every year. For those who don't know, the S24 Ultra is the most recent Samsung flagship that released earlier this year. But I swear not a single person I met in person knew that. I've seen people with an s21 and go "oh, you got the same phone I got" when I mentioned going from Apple to android. They weren't aware of what model phone I had. And most didn't even know what model phone they had. A good friend of mine uses the s22, and he would swear up and down that him and I use the same android phone, not realizing that mine is TWO WHOLE generations newer. But he doesn't know that. He doesn't care. But there's glamour in having the latest phone, because most people don't even know what that phone is. The one thing I really really really like with the S24 is that I can change the power button into a camera button, and while people absolutely bag on the camera button for Apple -- I am looking forward to it immensely. Right now I'm using an old 14 Pro Max, but should get my 16 Pro in two weeks. I was on the fence, so I got delayed. And as someone who saw the camera button as a major feature -- I look forward to using it, and giving feedback on how it works for left-handed people. -- One really important thing I want to note. The above mentioned power button on the Samsung I converted into a camera button? It's incredibly close to where the new camera button is on the iPhone 16. I will have no problem accessing it and using it to open up the camera as a left-handed person. Another thing that I think will be to my advantage is that as a left-handed person, my primary (most stable hand) is the one that'll be holding the phone on the left side in portrait mode while using the right hand to click or scroll that button. So pushing the button shouldn't cause as much movement as I'll have an above average grip on the device. But we'll see! I haven't held one to know exactly how it'll feel, but I know how I hold older phones. -- I hope you get most of your money back on those ORANGE airpod pro max things. I think it's hilarious you bought them, and I think it was a great investment for the jokes.
@NeilLavittАй бұрын
Yeh, the grass is NOT greener on the other side. Same can be said for a diehard Android user switching between device ecosystems. I do have a e ink tablet though that is a much better reading and writing experience.

I upgraded from a 12 Mini to 16 Pro and it’s amazing. After about a week, I’m most impressed by the camera. I took photos and videos of the recent fireworks across Victoria harbour and it was impressive. The mechanical stabilisation and high quality image processing made it look like a had a pro setup, when I was filming from my living room through a window. The new camera button just doesn’t work it seems. I don’t mind the placing because I’m one of the few who prefer landscape photos for most things and it’s in the right place for that. For portrait I use the volume switch which still works. What doesn’t work is the sliding function. I was hoping for a SLR style hold and focus, plus a smart zoom. It just doesn’t slide properly and the clicking, especially through a case, is hit and miss. As you said I don’t want to miss a shot so I got back to what works. I still love the phone. There’s so much about it with the massive 4 year upgrade, like the dynamic island which I’ve found super useful for things like Uber and food delivery, plus comforting when Face ID unlocks. As for your headphones. Yeah, that colour would probably work ok for a teenage girl, but there aren’t many adults who can pull off pale peach. Great videos, thanks for sharing.

Great video as always here are my thoughts on the camera control. I don’t think it has much use at the moment. I certainly haven’t been using it. I’ve just been using the on-screen camera button to take my pictures. I just think it’s very cumbersome and especially if you try to take a picture, you end up shaking the phone when pressing the camera control button which leads to a horrible blurry shot and I’m so glad that you mentioned the two year gap between the iPhone 14 Pro and the 16 pro with People saying it’s not much of a improvement over two years I think it’s a noticeable improvement particularly in Battery Life camera video quality with us being able to record our videos in log, for the highest quality I just think people complain for the sake of complaining and particularly with Apple they complain even more at least Apple is trying to get something different with the camera control button even if they haven’t quite got it right yet and it’s well documented how the iPhone 6 pro and 16 series as a whole is unfinished due to not shipping with Apple Intelligence but I believe in the long time Apple Intelligence will be what Apple envision for it the figures what people seem to forget the first generation of anything new is almost like a beta and it’s not until at least the third generation when we will see what each tech company is trying to achieve like you said with Apple Vision Pro, which isn’t perfect, but after at least the third generation of the Apple Vision Pro we will start to see the fruits of apples labour. Anyway, great videos always David and it’s been fun watching them as always.

Steve Jobs / WWDC 1997. Apple has lost its way. That camera button is the epitome of starting with the technology and trying to figure out how to sell it. It was well known that Steve Jobs was a product guy and Tim Cook took care of the business operations. Jobs would visit Jony Ive and his team in the design studio, or they would have lunch together (I have a friend who used to work for Apple and he saw this for himself). Jobs was product and customer, through and through. Under Tim Cook we find ourselves with wonderful tech demos (Vision Pro, iPhone, Apple Watch 10) but they're just shoving in new tech to try and justify technology nobody asked for. Apple is worth almost $3.5T under Tim Cook, but I feel like Apple has lost its soul and everything they do now is a cash grab (I mean $349 for the iPad Pro Keyboard and $130 for a pencil... c'mon).

i dont agree on steve, i think he would be great now, i read a bio, his not genius he just thinks simply what users want, and make it so simple they dont have to learn it, i think now apple is over complicating stuff, how many buttons on the phone do we have now? i take photos with volume buttons, why dont merge volume buttons make something out of it....

I admire Jobs hugely, but I just wonder if his ideas would still be as fresh now as they were once. He was innovating in a golden era. Now we are so near max tech it’s hard to constantly find the next latest and greatest! Like you, I prefer cleaner, simpler designs though - for me, less is more 👊🏻

i believe apple is really in tough situation... its in easy times... hard times make tough people, easy times make easy people... when there is no push from the top.. no good product comes from easy going... so many failed project... and mediocre project in past 10 years

Send those Max’s back it’s not a good look. No new features. The USBC was needed for EU requirements.
@DavidLewisTechАй бұрын
Yup - I knew what I was buying with the Max. The USBC was forced upon them, but as I use them so much, having one less reason to use a lightning cable is fine by me…I swapped them last night for a pair in Midnight. I will have a short up later today about it!
@papadougpapadougsadventuresАй бұрын
@@DavidLewisTech I agree and if I used them more I would switch. I have everything I travel with using USBC as well. I switched to the Bose Ultra over the head because of that and the AirPod pro 2 for the same reason. Next up will be the iPad mini when it’s released. The iPad M4 pro is my everyday but to big for travel.

…well, it seems you may not have long to wait for the iPad mini then! The rumours are we should get it later this month! Fingers crossed eh!

I don't know whose head needs to roll, but Apple really missed the mark this season. First off, what was their thinking on the flagship headphones? How can my AirPods Pro 2 have more features than what amounts to a re-skinned Max? Secondly, Apple Intelligence was nothing short of vaporware from the 90s and early 00s. They've overpromised on a product that won't be fully here anytime soon. The hype that they've built up around Apple Intelligence isn't marketing genius, it's actually really close to being a con game. This is like someone selling you a house based off a picture of a house that's radically different from the one that you've just now bought. Most people don't buy these devices, the iPhone in particular outright, but get them on a plan. I would be plenty upset to get a product that is missing all of its promised bells and whistles, whether I'd actually use all of those features is beside the point. If I'm paying for something, I want it pretty much the same way it was advertised. I'm probably going to stay with my dinky 6.1" iPhone 15 until the iPhone 17 or 18 comes out. I would be fine with the way things are with the current device line up, except the AirPods Max not having the current chipset that the lower AirPro2 have, and the mismatched orange color scheme, that's inexcusable. All of this would generally be fine if they didn't overpromise, if they didn't hype us all up for something they couldn't deliver on. I don't know if you'd make a video, but to the same point, I was excited to try out Math Notes within Notes, when I recently purchased my iPadAir 13" a few weeks ago. Although Apple didn't say it was, I think students for sure, and many of us math types, had not unreasonably inferred that the ability to perform Algebraic equations meant that this was a Apple's attempt at a CAS, similar to Mathematica, Maple, or like a high-end TI graphing calculator. They didn't say that it can only perform calculations on defined variables, and that this product can only understand basic math symbols and perform simple operations. I still would've bought my iPad even if I had this clarification ahead of time. I think the same stands for the iPhone 16 too, if they had just said back in June that Apple Intelligence is coming in 2025 or something like that, and been really clear about it.
@NeilLavittАй бұрын
So much I agree but mostly disagree with this. Completely agree on AirPods Max. Biggest let down - though to be fair they leaked this non upgrade almost a year ago. I’ve come to terms with the reality that Apple does Audio in a very lacklustre fashion. There is nothing innovative about it and the only product I think is of any value is the AirPod Pro. Apple Intelligence and is unfinished - but neither are the rest. They’re all genuinely pointless features that have iffy usefulness in their current state. Genuine AI hype. Apple had to join the hype wagon to not lose the momentum. I’m actually looking in the big bright side of this. It has forced Apple to up their memory and ramp up their CPU game. We’ll probably see all Mac’s with 16Gb of RAM. The iPhone 16 got the same RAM and processors (mostly) as the pros. As for Maths on the iPad. It’s a super neat feature that they exposed through the beta. Lots of information out there every quickly. A play with the beta confirmed very quickly what it was and what it isn’t. Just like the handwriting correction. It’s actually pretty dam awful for me. Looks nothing like my handwriting when it corrects and it’s not going to change me from my new most enjoyable device, my Onyxx Boox Note Air 3 C rink tablet. Super nice handwriting experience.
