I don't know why the algo sent me here, but I'm glad it did. GPS technology has come so far. Roundabouts 2006, I was a drone technician and bad GPS often grounded us. Not enough satellites, limited accuracy (2 to 5 meters) for some equipment, etc. I remember doing silly 'GPS Dances' trying to appease the gods for a good link. Site survey took all day, and then when it came time to fly, everything all needed good signals. 1cm accuracy, instantly? Wild.

It's changed a ton since those days. We still get some of the older units in and the difference is night and day. With this new stuff, just about anyone can start surveying almost immediately.

Would an RTK system be a viable option for tracking a race car's precise position on the track? I'm curious about its accuracy and whether it could handle the speed and dynamics of racing environments. Any insights or experiences would be great! // im a student working on FSAE team

Hi Bruno, You definitely could use RTK to track position of a race car. You would probably require a reasonably high update GNSS board, something that can do 10Hz+. If I were you I would see what something like F1 uses in their telemetries. The RTK receiver in this video is ~2lbs, which is probably not worth the weight trade off.

There has to be a middle ground between a 15 foot error and a 1 inch error that doesnt involve a comma in the pricr?

There are also sub-meter solutions! Something like the Juniper Geode can achieve 3ft m: bench-mark.ca/product/juniper-geode-sub-meter-gns3-receiver/ and is about halfway between the two price points.
