I am SO TIRED of you tubers praising the iPhones and Samsungs and not giving lg phones that are great underrated phones their props. Both cameras are great but I prefer the v40 because pretty much everything. It has everything in a phone a person can't want! Not saying the iPhone isn't great, just saying the v40 and g7 should get more recognition. They are truly great phones and I can't wait for the v40s price to drop a little so I can grab this amazing phone 📱!

I think I know the reason that the lg v40 video colours looks hyper saturated it belongs to the fact that the v40 shots HDR video in bt 2020 colour space so if you look at it on an HDR compatible monitor or even the display of the v40...it looks fantastic but when you take it off to a non-HDR capable display it can mess up the colors and look unpleasant.... so sir maybe this is the situation with you??!

that and graded cin log is what makes the V-series so special. LG's V-series is literally the Video series. They put mostly everything into the video features. Sensors on the V40 are basically V30 with telephoto. But with their algorithms, it is able to achieve quality that well exceeds every other phone.....under specific conditions. That is bright light and slow movement preferably using a gimbal. That may sound limited, but usually, unless you are at a sports game that is the optimal way to film any ambient occasion.

That makes sense LG should have mentioned that as many reviewers totally dismiss the v40 because of it without the knowledge that her needs a compatible display or needs to be converted for non comparable displays to look it's best Interesting Processing and software is where it's at As almost all the major cameras have similar lenses It is the software tricks multiple photos sharpening etc that manipulates the picture to look better with these small sensor lenses

I go for the Dream phone Lg V40 , he Won in rear lens Wide and normal over Xs but the last have just won in telephoto and also in the front facing because of the HDR and Colors look awesome in the front lens , at the End i would say that with the V40 u have the best Pro Manuel mode (camera Ui) (changing settings Iso white balence ...)that can give the best shots overall that no phone can offer , well that's my own opinion

I have the V40 for 2 weeks, the performance of the phone was excellent but the cameras are not consistent, colors are oversaturated and oversharp, and sometimes selfies are not good. The pentacamera idea is good but I think they need to improve the software of the camera. I return the V40 and get the S9+, sometimes I miss the wide-angle camera but photos looks better...

Na maybe I would switch the v40 for the Note 9 but definitely not the s9+. The v40 is better than the s9+ by far. Not to mention the quad dac and boom box speaker that the galaxy phones can't give u. People are crazy if u think the galaxy s9 or s9+ is a better choice than the the v40. So underrated it's not even right. I'm picking the v40 over the Note 9.battery might be slightly worse than the Note 9 but I can live with that. I'd rather have a beautiful display (even with the notch) and have the best audio experience on ANY PHONE out right now.

I've watched many videos on smartphone camera, for my taste I like Sony XZ3 and XZ2 premium color production better (better than IPhone XS I must say). But from this video I can see that my eyes are preferring LG V40's color production, I know it's over saturated but it's just gave that extra characters for the pictures. I remember when I had LG G2 and LG G5, many praise that that I have such an amazing camera. Now I use Sony XZ1C, even with the single lens, I really love the color production of Sony and the best in class for flash on photo. Still, many of my friends praise Sony XZ1C camera. But if I want to upgrade soon, I will choose either Sony or LG. If Sony XZ4 has headphone jack, LG V or G series have tough competition for audio quality. Sony has DSEE HX setting for wired phones which is so good. But I bet quad dac by LG is much better. TBH, I prefer LG's earphone that Sony! I don't know, LG is just like so good in audio quality hardware. This is just my experience.

I think u were on this thing where LG software adjust saturation based on what it is seeing, if it sea water or tree, it registered the area as landscape so that the filter for landscape is applied

Lg v40 looks overly sharpened and also the colors look over saturated almost look cartoonish but there is a big difference when you see it in the phone itself vs in a video. And for the front facing, even the old gen iphones take more natural photos which is nice at some points

Does the V40 have level 3 camera2 api? I'm sick of android phones now . Stopped at iPhone 5 . But my OnePlus 6 won't let me use 4k 60 on filmic pro etc . I need this on V40 or its iPhone . Another I may just get iPhone tho , as all my camera gear apps just work on ios . Where android I loose half features , updates take to long or just don't work .

So glad you did this comparison! I owned the V30 and decided to switch to the iPhone Xs. Your video validates that decision. So many of the things that annoyed me about the V30 are still present in the V40. I was blown away by the Xs because it did so many things better than the V30 did. I noticed in the few close up shots that the v40 missed focus more than the Xs. And that failure to autofocus was a huge problem on my V30. Too bad LG hasn't nailed that down yet. Also, the Xs gets color correct most of the time, whereas I was forever fixing color on the V30 and the V40 is even more saturated. There are several good apps on IOS that give the same fine controls that were in the V30 camera, but the truth is that the stock app gets it almost perfect most of the time, so I rarely use them. I do miss the wide angle lens, but the fact was on my V30 that the quality of the image wasn't as good on the wide shots. I have gotten very good at Pano mode on the Xs and it works better than it did on the 6s Plus I owned years ago, so I really don't miss the wide camera lens as much as I thought I would.

LG V40 beat the Iphone XS in vast margin. Note: The LG translucent surpass the XS (leaves, tree bark and water...). This is important in choosing a camera because real film produce very high translucent which digital lack. The LG audio is deep real, XS too tight. The LG bokeh/lens flare and shadow gradient beat the XS a 1000x! Most people think good camera is about sharpness and color (can be set) but translucent can't be set. The LG is more professional look in many ways. The XS image and video has muddier appearances.

I am right now happy with my V30, and I plan to upgrade after three years when the phone stops receiving the software update. Believe me, V30 is enough for every LG fan for 2 years from now.

the only thing holding me back from buying a V40 now is LG's poor update history. I owned a LG G4 and despite loving the device, it was never updated to the latest android versions nor did it receive constant security updates. How has it been with the V30 so far? Maybe LG has improved in its latest models.

Hmm, one phone shoots in 10 Bit HDR Rec.2020 ColorSpace. The other phone shoots in 8 Bit SDR Rec.709. One has manual controls that allow you to control the image and produce the best possible product, the other requires third party apps for manual control. The LG v40 wins by a couple of touchdowns. One of the products is designed for professional grade imaging, hence the HDR10 and 10 Bit 4:2:0, the other is consumer 8 Bit 4:2:0. This isn't a contest.

All this auto mode does my head in!!! The V40 like all the V models in the LG range are for the purest and the knowledgeable regarding an SLR camera. LG walks all over the iPhone as its market is completely different from the lazy iPhone user. Simple!!!!

The one thing LG has is all the baked in manual controls, which aren't for everyone. Not to mention the ability to shoot in LOG for video. You can take a look at a video Parker Wallbeck did using the the V30 and footage of a RED camera . He's also done with an iPhone 7. Both videos were quite astonishing at how well these phones did against cameras used by the pros. . Also, it was kind of nuts to see him color grade log footage taken from the LG. I think the point is that if you're really going to film or take photos on a phone that it will come down to preference. LG, while not terrible, will not give you the same point and click polish that Apple will. At the same time, it has so many customization options that you can get a lot of different looks . I think one reason why critics are harsh on LG is that they are walking a different path from the competition . Not many people (or these reviewers) are going to be ape about taking the time to customize their camera settings or go over a video/photo in post--> which I think is exactly LG's strategy with the V series is.

maybe you should use the right setting on the V40 or at least use the right monitor to view the V40. It defaults@ HDR10 on 4k. It's gonna look much nicer on a 4k w/ hdr enabled TV.

Just traded andgot the v40 last week.much better phone due mostly to sound , format and picture in picture on premium tube. Oh and v40 has a better charging unit. Now that I had the I phone.. Is like LG AND SAMSUNG is using the same software, because the results are very similar.Using pro mode you can get very good photos but in automatic they are oversaturated and a lot of processing in sunlight the orange si everywhere is like they are backed.If you are using pro mode I am sure you can get better pics than the XS but on auto the XS is better in my opinion.

Great comparison....thanks. The Iphone's camera comes off as much more refined (mature?) and just does more things better than the LG. Not saying that LG is bad but they need to do better with shots taken in Auto because that's what most people will want from a camera on their cell phone. LG has one of the best (if not the best) manual modes on any cell phone camera but how many people are going to want to take a shot of a lake or a park or whatever and stand there for a few minutes tinkering around with all of the manual settings. I have a G6 and it's fun to play around with but it's not a viable way to go if you just want to take a quick picture of something as most people do.
