Best instructional I’ve received on no leg grab Kata Guruma was while training Greco Roman Wrestling. They’ve been doing Fireman’s Carry without grabbing the leg long before us.

Hey this is great, thanks for covering this. The standing one with no leg grab is very rare. You don't see many people teaching this, using the double knee drop. Matt D'Aquino has an instructional on this technique (fire mans carry) but he doesn't cover the double knee drop either, drops a single knee and then drops. We have had freestyle wrestlers visit our judo club and they all use the double knee drop (with the dump), but I thought this would be wrong for Judo, but I will start training this now, if its good enough for Huizinga. Also I think it suits the older and less flexible player. If you still have good knees ;-)

Hi, Chadi. According to the book KODOKAN JUDO THROWING TECHNIQUES by Toshiro Daigo (2016, p. 36; p. 208 and p. 210), the technique performed was not kata-guruma but a variation of ura-nage, as tori falls with uke thus being a technique of sutemi-waza (remember that ura-nage is originally cataloged as ma-sutemi-waza, but has its variations of yoko-sutemi-waza). As Pantano fell off together with Jaring to perform the technique, it is configured as ura-nage and not kata-guruma, even though it initially has the principle of kata-guruma.

I cringe everytime I see someone do a technique in such a way that will put him/her in a more vulnerable position then the uke after the tecnique is executed just to get a point in sport tournaments, Do we really have to kill the martial art just to create a sport out of it ?

But old kata guruma wasn't immuned either, you can get easily sprawled on, or worse get caught in an ashi gatame ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZ28aJqVpb1gatU ). Angelo did it against a resisting opponent and it was brilliant, it clearly works. I'm not opposed to leg grabs but I also support new variations too, Judo evolved in many ways.

@@ChadiHey Chadi, first things first , you have a great channel man , love it , Imho No technique is counterproof and I wasn't really talking about Angelos execution , my bad if misunderstood , he executed it very powerfully landed his opponent very hard and ended up on top protecting his head while giving massive damage to the uke ( if there was no mat of course ), that to me is a proper execution of any sacrifice technique . But some of the other versions in your footage like the crocodile rolling version, I mean , the uke doesnt get any damage and you end up with your back against the uke ready to be choked out :) I understand that not only Judo but everything evolves , but if something evolves contradicting its essence, is this really an evolution or something else ?

Just bring back leg grabs, for real, it's so dumb lol, just ban tackles if they don't want it to look like wrestling (it never did, the Olympics are stupid)

It’s totally insane to allow all these tricks just because you are scared the Russians might win a few tournaments if you actually allowed people to compete with the judo rules Kano intended . It’s particularly annoying because the arm here is important for protecting uke from a dangerous fall angle. And you can clearly see in many of these examples uke is landing on their neck/head . The skirt trick is bad sportmanship even if it’s legal. What is more disappointing than the IJF perpetuating this state of affairs is that the Kodakan had done nothing to oppose it and seek to restore the nage waza to its intended glory
