In the West, that applies to Corporate interests. The bootleg-women community is a diamond mine for Capitalism (KZbin censors the T word for me even in its respectable form lmao). Market estimates put the cost of surgery alone per-person at $150k and upwards, and that doesn't include into the equation: lifetimes meds, lifetime hormone pills, corrective procedures, repeat surgery, painkillers for dil., antidepressants, and then you also have the fashion, makeup, and wig industries. That's an industry to exploit by pharma/clinics/fashion/makeup/wig sectors, which is well in excess of $200 Billion annually if we go by the number that there's 1.4 million people in this community and even more. That's more than the movie industry. Corporations are going all in to not only market and support such a diamond mine, but also find ways to force people who don't necessarily have a gender problem, but have other mental problems that make them malleable into being easily convinced and pushed into the community to exploit and commodify even more people. The final touch here is Capitalists getting Socialists who support the bootleg-women community to force the state government to take money from taxpayers and put it into welfare funds so even those who can't afford surgeries and meds can easily get them, and that means Corporations like Pharma now getting 100% assured monetary flow from taxpayers via State, enabled and fueled by Socialists themselves ironically, making for a harmonic cooperation between Socialism and Capitalism which is just pure brilliance.

That part of the special really hit me because even though I knew the mob could be like this, it broke my heart to know they may have harrassed a person from their own community to take her own life. People don't usually realize this but comedy is one of the greatest ways to spread awareness and I think that is more what dave did in this special. People also don't realize that not all trans people are the same just like Dave said "not all trans people support cancel culture". People need to start accepting that trans people are not monoliths and that includes the community itself too. And I think dave knows that and supports that idea :)

When he told that story about his friend that committed suicide and still managed to get people laughing it showed that comedy isn’t meant to be taken seriously but is a way to turn something negative into something positive without degrading the importance of the issue. Virtue signaling in a nutshell. It was popularized with Kony in 2012, marking the beginning of the end. I think it is a result of the global communication pipeline opening up a lot more information about the "outside world" to those trapped in their country's geopolitical bubble around 2005, as well as social media encouraging politicization. Twitter warriors are just playing politicians, they fight and cannibalize each other to earn the coveted title of being the representative of a certain group online, and with comms opening up there are a lot more groups available to vie for control, and they're larger, too. It still wasn't enough however, so they began creating groups that they can say they are representative of. I chalk it up to the pangs of a burgeoning global communications culture. I think in a couple years this will all be a thing of the past, but there's also the chance that because humans in general have a hard time dealing with large numbers, people will always "groupify" those they are not familiar with and we will never see an end to these kinds of talks

He used her story to show how the trans community is so aggressive online that they very well may have contributed to a member of their own community’s suicide. “ I don’t need you to understand me, I just need you to believe that I’m having a human experience.” Daphne

A few things to consider: 1. Criticism is not hate. 2. I would be amazed if the people saying he hates trans actually watched the specials. No one has yet pointed out the things in the specials where he was supportive of the trans community. They only say he attacks them without being specific. 3. The only time I've seen specific references made were in articles which only seem to mention the TERF comment, but not the parts where he was supportive. And yes, if you watch and listen, there are many. 4. To demand a trans person be put on the board because you don't like the special is the height of hubris, and shows how unrealistic your expectations are. We need less outrage and hate in this country. Trans people are people too and deserve the same respect everyone else gets. That means they also need to accept jokes about them are fair game, just like with everyone else.

Words can indicate intent, but never did he say he wanted anything for that group less than their protection and equality to match every other group. He didnt even say to lessen their level of protection and consideration; He asked that other affected groups get their levels RAISED to be more equal with the lgbtq community. He sought dialogue, and provided examples to help the audience to better understand his thinking. Yes he threw jokes in there, (because it's his profession) but he never wished any physical damage on another group of people for just trying to live their life. Where is the hate or even violent INTENT in that?
@arikabearika3 жыл бұрын
I was saving the special for a day when I really needed to laugh but watched it after hearing yet more outrage thrown at Dave Chapelle. I feel like his comedy went deeper and more heartfelt yet the backlash was even worse. He surrounded every joke with his view that trans people be understood as human beings, while pointing out points of criticism. Watching the special made me more convinced that the line that most outspoken trans people are drawing has to do with not being able to be criticized and needing to control the way anyone speaks about gender. The rhetoric they use is that its "hate speech" and "violent" but this time I truly hope people watch the special and realize just how irrational and rhetorical this conversation has become.

4:22 I have been in this exact situation. For the past couple years I have been going through very very very high emotional turmoil, and I simply would rather put my mental and physical efforts towards fixing myself than working towards fixing some part of society that I can't even trust anybody to properly inform me about. For all I know the stuff people are marching for might not even need change(not referring to anything in particular, just saying as a thought). Once I realized I was mentally and emotionally incapable of properly absorbing information(I suspect BPD, but I'm still talking to somebody about it), I took a step back from paying attention to local and global issues. Some people I've talked to say that me not partaking in trying to make change is just me enabling the "issues" to continue existing(whatever those may be from their perspective). I never thought to look at that way, and I still won't because it makes absolutely no sense 🤣
