Sophomore year of college, one of our D&D friends decided they weren't going to shower or do laundry for at least a month or more; I didn't keep track at that point. Those of us in the surrounding rooms gave him a choice: he could either take a shower right now or we were going to hog tie him, drag him down to the lake on campus, and throw him. He threw the typical childish tantrum going on how about how we couldn't do that to him, his rights were being impeded, and then pleaded his case to the hall RA (resident assistant, either a junior or senior at the time). RA looked at him and said those were his options. He took a shower later that day.

I'm a mental health nurse and worked in acute male wards... Knew a patient who only washed at most 3x a year, would refuse to do anymore... Unfortunately you could smell him a mile away, he looked severely unkempt and his room smelt terribly. Yet he would insist he had no odour on him nor his room. If you 'can't smell' your body odour after 10 days of not washing, it's not because you've reached a "plateau", it's because you've gotten used to your own smell. I hope this guy is OK in all honesty, it could be something to do with mental health or perhaps a sensory issue with water, maybe he has a neurodivergant condition that makes it difficult for him to want to wash.

Subjectively, taking care of your needs isn’t always easy. A strong will and self-discipline is required. i used to shower like once a week (if that) when i was a teen then i moved out got my own place. i took a bath and could visibly see the dirt coming off my skin. was kinda shocking, i basically became addicted to getting dirty then getting clean. it would bother me if i bathed and wasnt dirty enough. it got really bad, i would help volunteer for the dirtiest jobs at work just so i can go home and bathe. going into sewage tanks, carrying cement, working with fiberglass, rolling around in mud.... i was the IT guy. i've been addicted to alot of weird things in the past but bathing off dirt has to be by far the weirdest.

It's the reason why when you take a shit, initially it smells really bad, but if you're in there for awhile, you start not to smell it anymore. It’s not bad for your health to shower everyday. It’s just marginally better for your skin to be caked in oils rather than stripped of them. But if you moisturize then it’s fine. And if you exercise everyday, the BIGGEST factor on your health, then you should shower everyday, so then showering less would be unhealthy because that means you are exercising less

Not sweating as much as another person is one thing, but your skin is still shedding and replacing dead cells daily. For someone with adhd, it is a lot of mental work. Each step of taking a shower is another spoon and sometimes we run out of spoons. Someone with sensory disorder is going to dread the cold wet feeling after the shower. I have forgotten showers like that, time management and distractions make things take longer to get to and this perfectionist trait makes it easier to not do something than risk doing something imperfectly.

Bacteria/fungi/virus/ect are opportunistic beings just doing their job decomposing or in the case of virus', updating our dna with some new code Living in an environment with excess sterilization using antibiotics, antifungals, antimicrobials etc... only creates a host with a weaker immune system. Some of the most deadly bacteria, are highly prevalent in sterile conditions, such as hospital operating rooms. Why? Because we kill off their competitors by sterilization. For surgery this is necessary because by cutting open the body, you're bypassing all of the immune system's defense mechanisms....... But otherwise? When the skin is intact? A sterile environment is always worse on the immune system than one which is biodiverse because after all without certain microorganisms and even virus', humans would cease to exist. We need them for optimal health. You can't simply kill off the "bad" bacteria without killing the "good". Sorry for my rant. I have a lot of free time at the moment 😂 **Oh and fyi, I'm not on asmon's side with not showering. After my husband died 6 years ago, I ended up living in a motel for 4 years. I was in a serious depression. I did shower but I lived in pure filth. My floors were covered in garbage. I had mold issues and wouldn't allow the motel entrance until one day the door broke off. There's definitely some truth to it. A lot of people that are truly depressed can't get up out of bed and leaving the house is difficult for a depressed person, so him actually getting up and out to the convenience store says a lot. I'm not exactly depressed, but I'm not in the best of places right now in my life and I don't feel like leaving my house half the time unless it's for work. Going to the gym, to the track to run, stuff like that, I used to be on top of it when I was happier, so there's some traction in what he says.

I'm mostly content with the way a live life. There's not much I really want, but showering and brushing your teeth, at least twice a day, is a must. I have a Job and have hobbies I really enjoy. I don't have too much responsibilities, but those I have, I make sure to fulfill them. I also like doing things when I want and how I want. I don't think I could compromise that, and that's why I had to accept that It wouldn't be wise to enter into a relationship. I respect the way he wants to live his life even if it's not how most people do things. What's important is to be honest with yourself about why you're doing it.

I can respect the independance, confidence, and honesty. Cleanliness is both a self-care practice and a maintenence routine. You can prevent a lot of skin conditions by showering or bathing by removing the buildup of dead skin. This is especially the case for more sedintary people who aren't shedding skin through activity like some. It is also an oportunity to do healthcare like checking for lumps or discoloration. I had a similar experience during a summer school semester. We had assigned seats and I had the unfortunate seat next to a kid who smelled like spoiled fish and dog shit. I can see dandruff all over his shirt, flakes of dead skin over his oily scalp and chin, even his pimples had dead skin. I had to ditch class a few times because the smell was so awful it gave me diarrhea. Makes me want to kick Asmondgold's dumb ass as much as I wanted to kick the guy I was assigned to sit next to. 😅

I've done it once for a month. It was fine, surprisingly. Sprained my ankle bad, and i didn't have the possibility to shower (there was no shower) and i was just recovering trying to get by, day by day. Well, it's not that bad. The body adapts to the situation. Maybe if one lives in a cottage far away, with no shower... Wouldn't you think the body has the way to be and survive nonetheless, to get by, that's it's not that serious... But modern people are so detached from most natural things nor ways to live. I appreciate shower and cleanliness for sure, but you can get by just fine not taking all the rides. Many of them are just modern illusions anyways, doing stuff because the culture / current ways of living / peer-pressure tell so. Sometimes it's refreshing to break free from some of the them, and finding your own ways to live and think.

It's not healthy, the smell is from the bacteria and fungus consuming your bodily discharges. Your immune system is under constant stress. Oral health in particular is Paramount. You're literally removing years off your life. Causing permanent damage to your skin and teeth. Even after you do shower/clean, the effects are extremely noticeable, like you have a permanent rash. I was in Iraq for 7 months back in 2003. The lack of access to water was probably the worst part. Baby powder and baby wipes became my best friends. The IED's were a secondary concern....

baby powder was not safe last I heard,maybe vaseline or something else that makes your skin temporarily waterproof or create a barrier on the skin,can't imagine why you need baby powder if you already have no access to water,on the other hand if you are constantly sweaty and damp you might be inclined to reach for that,still a bad choice...plus it will clump up in areas where the skin is broken,it will not help fix it and will make recovery slower and possibly cause more cracking and bleeding and is not at all recommended for use on damaged skin...like we don't even use that stuff on babies here in my country since the 90s...to call it baby powder is wrong when it can be the worst for them....I have psoriasis and would not let that be applied to another person in the same room let alone my vicinity ....
