Your thourgh in depth interviews are greatly appreciated for considering our next scope purchases. Last year I had Burris fullfield IV 2.5 to 10 on rat hunt. Almost all shooting was 70-200yds on 6x. It was ok but field of view was underwhelming.This year upgraded to vortex viper 3-15x44. Going to zero it this afternoon. Testing illumination on it,it flares like a red dot with my astigmatism. May not be usable for me lit up

On the subject of the March being better as a 1.5-10... I dont think so. I'm working by the assumption that the scope would be identical in that range, you just lose the 10-15x range. Even if the 10-15x range has its limitations, it's better to have it than not. There's no reason not to push the glass. In the worst case you can just not use it. Personally I'd rather see it be lengthened somewhat and with a slightly but not much larger objective. That should help with eyebox and light transmission, and probably with the blurry reticle just a bit. Weight honestly isn't the biggest issue and a large magnification ratio is valuable to have IMO. The same with the shorty 1-10. You can have a good shorty, and you can have a good 1-10, but probably not both at the same time. When you say there's too much going on, that March is doing too many things, that's the bit that I'm thinking of the most. I'm mostly thinking of this as an SPR/DMR type scope which can see a great variety of engagement ranges and shooting conditions, hence the value placed on the magnification range. Common wisdom of 1x per 100 yards doesn't hold up when targets have to be spotted and identified first. With a 10x ratio the dual plane reticle starts to become a necessity. FFP reticles either suck at low or at high end and SFP is a just a straight up non-starter for this purpose. An SPR being 5.56 or other intermediate caliber can probably get away with one of the 2-12 options just fine because you're not shooting that much past 600m although some of the newer intermediate calibers like 6mm Max and 6mm ARC or even the slightly older 6.5mm Grendel can take that up to 1000 without too much issue. But the DMR platform has also been extended from the .308's 800-ish practical range to 1200-1400 with 6.5 Creedmoor and similar rounds. I consider these cartridge developments to be reason for pushing for higher top end magnification, while the requirement for a low-end remains, and so scopes must accomodate this with higher ratios, thus leading back to my first statement of the extra 10-15x range being valuable, even if it could've been done better. A 2-20 would be amazing, and the Nightforce is the only scope getting close to that, so I consider it the only real contender for the March in this space, even if the 2-12x range on a typical SPR or DMR can probably be 90% as good. I'd like to see a gen 2 from March, and hope they also improve the alignment between the two reticles. Not really a practical issue of course but the scope has to be fun enough to train with too. The reticle alignment and edge blur would bother me too much to enjoy shooting it much. Now if it came to hunting, I'd happily use a 2.5-10x or 2-12x because I've no aspirations to make 1000m killshots on any sort of game.

Got a glx 6months ago. Was torn between it and the athlon. Must have been one of the last available. It was the bdc though, no more mil ones available. They will probably release something better at the same price in 6months sigh. Love the reviews, huge fan.
@KretinD4 күн бұрын
I got the glx with the raptor bdc reticle the year they came out. At first I also was regretting not getting the griffin mil reticle. However after shooting for a few years and buying a few more scopes I realized milling works a lot better at a slightly higher mag range and the bdc is slightly easier to use at the full range. I think the 3-18/ 4-16 is better for mil reticles especially if the reticle has wind holds. If you have a decent zero, some 77 otms and an 18" rifle length barrel, the 2.5-10x raptor feels like a cheat code

@@KretinD I've got two of these scopes both raptors, one recently when PA had an open box sale for $450 (looked new to me). Agreed that they're probably replacing this model. The raptor reticle also works very well with 68 and 75gr Hornadys, anywhere from 2,730 fps to 2,850. fps depending on zero and higher velocity being better.
