Percentage is always in relation to a basevalue, but which basevalue to use for this second calculation is apparently up to the person taking the test. If one arbitrarily chooses the original price to be the basevalue, one will derive at 40%, that's correct. However, keep in mind that this is an intelligence test, there is not much intelligence involved in subtracting x and then adding it back on. It really would make much more sense if they would ask for the percentage of the result of the first calculation. just my two cents, have a nice day and thank you for your reply.

@@lee-226 In the context of the question, it’s most definitely 66%. If you add 66% of the discounted price to that price, you get the original. If you multiply the discounted price by 166%, you get the original price. 166% is the discounted price plus the 66% of the discounted price. If you multiply a price by 3/5 (60%), in order to restore to the original price, you multiply by the reciprocal, in this case 5/3. 100=60*x, => x=5/3, 166%.

@@lee-226 Yes the answer will be 66.6666%. Why you shall ask? Because we know the question says x-40%x=60%x. The answer suggests that if we add 40%x then 40%x and 40%x will cancel out which gives you x but it will violate the conditions of the question. If you buy a shirt worth of 140 dollars and given a discount of 40'%. The guy charges you 100 dollars for it (100+40-40 as per your logic) which is wrong because 40% of 140 is 56 dollars and the price should be 84 dollars. Which is a scam. You have to add a particlar value to x such that when you remove 40% of *THAT* value you get x. Assume the percentage to be A and subtract (x+Ax/100) 40% from it and equate it with x. You shall get 66%. This IQ test is bad I do not recommend it.

I consider that I answered all 20 questions correctly. Question #10. The correct answer is 40%? Nope! If you lower a price by 40%, a $1.00 item would be priced at .60. To retain the original price of $1.00, you must make an increase of 66% of .60. Increasing .60 by 40%, that's only .84. Also...Question #13: Which of the four is least like the other four? Ahh... that should be Which of the four is least like the other three. The answers are Shark, Deer, Dog, Lion. The correct answer is Deer? How do you conclude that as the correct answer? #2. Radish was spelled wrong. 2 of the questions (#6 and #14) were also on the first half of the IQ test (in the other video). #8. Exercise was misspelled. #20. Neptune was misspelled. #10, they have the wrong answer... if they cut the price by 40% (using a $100 item for simplicity), then the reduced price is $60. Now the $60 is the new 100%. If they want to return it to $100, increasing it by 40% will only raise it to $84. $60/100% = $100/x --> 60x = 10,000 --> x = 166.666666% of the "ORIGINAL" $60 ... which was 100% so subtract out the 100% to find out what % it needed to be increased by. = 66.6666666% I got 17/20 (but one of them I missed was #10 and another one was #13 --> shark is the only one that doesn't live on land, so even though a deer is the only herbivore, either answer should be acceptable. The last one I missed was the analogy with "forest is to tree as tree is to ________." I said branch. It was logical to me. A forest is full of trees. A tree is full of branches. YES, the branches have leaves on them, but not if it is a deciduous tree in the winter. Then, it ONLY has the branches. My result is somewhere in the 170 - 200 IQ range which does jive with previous "official" IQ tests I have taken.
