I agree, i have spent around 50 hours in DCS, and recently got the F/A 18, but I can tell it will still take couple hundred more hours to get comfortable with the instruments and controls, so the video annotations really help anyone that's fairly new to DCS (or anyone watching in general).

I'm Iranian. I know for a fact that Iran has reverse engineered the AIM-54 missile, it's called "Fakoor", and it works pretty well on the Tomcats. That much we know for sure, officially confirmed information by both the Iranian and American military officials. Unofficial claims suggests that Fakoor is more resilient to jamming than original Phoenix. Btw Iranian officials claim that Tomcats have received new Iranian made radar and avionics

The P-3 blows me away, still flown by a few western nations... I worked on them over ten years ago, and they were already the oldest shit in the Navy (first flight was 1959), and though the were replaced in the US Navy (many others still operate it) a few US government agencies still operate them. Tomcats came out in '70, and though they were the first of the mainstay 4th gens, the last (F-18) came out only 8 years later. Amazing to think that the original models of the majority of the American air fleet had their first flight between 1970-1978... then essentially nothing on the fighter front (excluding upgrades) until the F-22...

In fact, the Fakour-90 missile is not a reverse-engineered version of the Phoenix missile, but a Hawk missile with a Phoenix missile body to enable the Tomcat to carry the Hawk under its belly and carry more Hawk missiles. The Iranians have claimed that the Phantoms are also capable of firing the Fakour-90, and this shows that the Fakour-90 missile uses semi-active radar guidance, so the Fakour-90 cannot be a reverse-engineered version of the Phoenix missile , because the radar of the Iranian Phantoms can not guide active radar missiles.

The R-27 exact model was R-27EM. Fox-3 version of R-27E. According to Brigadier General BAZARGAN Project development was ended in 1990 and almost never used because of two problems 1- they only can load missiles in in wing root hard points 2- there wasn't much missiles from this version in Iran Knowledge achieved in experiments used in two projects First one is Fakoor-90 and second one is still classified Also its a bit strange but Iranians overhauled the phoenix missiles Last confirmed seen of a tomcat flying with Phoenix is from 6 months ago

@hphp314162 жыл бұрын

@Jacksonflax2 жыл бұрын
In the navy's own trials it wasn't exactly a favorable matchup against a hornet with amraams in a BVR fight, And the situation only got worse the closer the fight got. The AWG-9 is an EXTREMELY exploitable radar system, And the Phoenix's actual effective range against a maneuvering target is comparable to an AMRAAM whist having much, much worse guidance.
@tedstation56072 жыл бұрын
Well, nowadays not so much. The hornet is now equipped with the Aim-120D which boasts around 100nm of range (however take that as more like 50-60 due to it likely being exaggerated). Sadly we don't have the D in DCS so a truly modern day match up can't be simulated, however I have a feeling the hornet would come out on top in that situation.
