What is the success rate of the Phoenix in this simulator? Was that 4 you fired? Ridiculous. And Jester, what was his deal? Needs an ass chewing. Out there skylarking. Maybe that needs to be an item on Jester's menu. The GYST button, with 10% chance Jester punches out in his maternity flight suit.

Rocket motor has no need for air and denser air of lower altitude only slows acceleration and decreases speed (=energy) achieved at end of the burn. After which denser air would bleed missile's energy faster. Also altitude is potential energy, which converts to some extra speed when diving down.

Yeah, the Phoenix missile actually insane. The reason it goes so high is because that allows it to come down really damn fast. The missiles doesnt need to be as agile if its doing a mach 2+ top down attack. In DCS, its what makes the F-14 a better BVR plane than the F-15, even if the missile can be notched. It just forces everyone else to play scared when competent 14' pilots fly around. Shame they didnt do anything with the missile, but the F-14 was pretty much built around the Phoenix. Its so heavy an F-15 couldnt carry it even if the USAF wanted to. The future AIM-260 could bring back long range A2A missiles to the USAF though.

@termitreter6545
@termitreter6545 Жыл бұрын
@@HMSNeptun Yeh, Aim-120 works the same, and has the advantage that it can get target data from general Link-16, not just the aircraft that fired it. Though I think the Phoenix' high speed and coming from top makes it harder to react to. Its just such a weird weapon to defend against. The range also means its harder to stay safe; an Aim-120 rarely hits beyond 30 miles, while a Phoenix can reasonably hit chance on 50-60. Its just scary to have F-14s flying around.

To be honest, there is still something about the Tomcat (ESPECIALLY) the swept-wing option, that I just like more than the Hornet. I don't know if it is simply the appearance, or maybe it was simply the "top of the line" plane in use when I was a kid and it kind of became somewhat "iconic" to me in general. Either way, I still love the Tomcat, but highly respect the advances that the Hornet made in military aircrafts around the world.
@Elthenar
@Elthenar Жыл бұрын
The Tomcat is an incredibly iconic fighter for a reason. Not only was it the face of US air power due to Top Gun and other movies, it also was the model used for a lot of Japanese toys and anime. A lot of those older animes featured fighters that transformed into robots....and nearly all of them were based on the F-14.

Think the DoD is trying to supplement the capability of Aim-54 without the cost or size drawbacks with Aim-260. Roughly the same size as current Aim-120D's but effectively twice the range. Pair it with Stealth platforms like F-35/F-22 and the soon to be NGAD or F/A-XX and you have something truly terrifying.

Once again showing the superiority of the F-14 vs F-18. Always fun to see them facing off in a more natural battle for them.

Eh it’s not superior really especially the super bugs with ammram Ds

@@doggy2601 The F-14 is not technologically superior. But a fully upgraded Tomcat with fly-by-wire, the AIM-120, and LANTIRN would be a much better platform for the Navy.

@@sledgehammerk35 At a massive expense. You pay for the performance, to say nothing about how sortie generation would also be hugely inferior to the Hornet. If a hornet is 90% as good at 60% the cost, there's something to be said of that.

@@doggy2601 I mostly meant the platform more than the missile. Plus don’t forget there is the F-14D which we can’t fly in DCS (yet) that was totally updated.

Hey, not sure if it's my setup, but your voice mix sounds really bassy, almost drony at times. I'm not a sound expert by any means, but it might be worth looking into if others agree, i think. Love the channel, congrats on cracking 450k 👍

The Old Dirty Bird, coming in clutch. I got to work on and see the last few that were in USAF inventory back in 2009 before them being phased out. 💣💣I.Y.A.A.Y.A.S 💣💣
