Reminds me of when the Iraqis ignited all the Kuwaiti oil wells on fire upon their departure of Kuwait. It took colossal efforts to extinguish the fires that damaged the environment and caused health issues prominent till today. Oil companies make money in agreement with the government. The teenage girl responded that she had ten siblings. That explains the staggering increase of population in Iraq. I am originally from Iraq, from the northern region where parenthood progressively becomes rational in that on average a family bears 2-3 children, I always heard of astonishing size of families in the south and west of the country where tribal and religious mentality is the dominant mildest. In the Shia region of the south any limit on birth rate is tantamount to blasphemy in the judgements of the religious establishment, the ultimate authority there. I say this as a fact without judgment. Population explosion in Iraq, like most of the Mideastern countries, places crippling pressure on the resources and infrastructure. And with that, environmental damage is an inevitable cost.

@@TheStockwell You believe there are no disease caused by the mining for the metals used in EV in places like Africa? I personally don't mind if EV is the future, but if you wish to compare do it honestly. If we now have something like 1% of EV, what is the scale of their problems if we have 100%, maybe those fires, mining etc. would have actual negative impact then. On the other hand, perhaps in the future the batteries can be recycled better so mining might not increase forever.
