With evening approaching on another day in Baghdad, my friends and I decided to head out on a nighttime street food tour of the city!
My friends Jafar and Ali from Bil Weekend, and my travel buddy Tasos, and I started off at the Storytelling Monument, which is from Arabian Nights. It’s a collection of stories from the golden age of Islam, including the story of Aladdin!

We drove to Karada Street, where there was a flurry of activity going on. There are shops, restaurants, butchers, and more there, along with lots of traffic. We walked to King of Dates, a shop that sells sweets, honey, date syrup, and souvenirs relating to dates!
The owner was so kind and let us try some for free. I tried a madgooga, which is a date ball, that was coated in sesame seeds. It was sweet and nutty and tasted almost like chocolate.
Then, I tried another madgooga with pistachios, and another delicious one coated in coconut. They were so sweet and delicious! The shop owner there was so kind and generous. He put together an entire bag of things to gift us. I wanted to pay for something, but he wouldn’t let me at first. But then he finally let me buy a jar of honey!
As we continued down Karada Street, we found a coffee shop. It smelled amazing inside! They had tons of different varieties. But it was late, so I wouldn’t be having any.
We continued on to Zaytoun Sweets, where they make a popular diamond-shaped Iraqi bread called samoon. They sell it fresh, and it’s so popular, they had a queue out the door! They cook it is stone furnaces. I got to see the whole process of them making it!
There was also a kiosk outside selling five different types of coffee. Further on was a stand selling fresh potato chips with different flavors including chicken, barbecue, cheese, lemon, pepper, and more! You choose a bag and then they add the flavors you want.
We got a small bag and got the vinegar & salt and barbecue flavors. The vendor added the flavors and shook up the bag. They were really fresh and tasty. The vinegar gave it a bit of a tingle!
Finally, we stopped a t a shop selling falafel! They say it’s the best falafel in Baghdad! You get them in a sandwich made from samoon bread, and you can add amba to it. The falafels were crispy and made of chickpeas.
It had a nice creaminess, and the lettuce and tomatoes gave it a really good fresh feeling. I also loved that the amba gave it a sourness and sweetness! What a way to end our night!

That Amba sauce has an incredible history , Amba is derived from the Sanskrit name of Mango. This sauce was first made by the Sassoon family of Bombay who were Baghdadi jews , later on the Baghdadi Jewish diaspora from India spread it to the middle east, its now more popular in the middle east and hardly found in India.

@@John405-l4d Sorry to let me in Yes they are good and their hearts are clear they love visitors and that's why all these disasters happened to them and made the world hate us we became the worst country in the world Imagine these good and generous people urging them this answer for this is You must be malicious, aggressive, racist and murderer and you will succeed in this world There is no place for good people Our country is one of the most beautiful and richest countries in the world and its people are homeless in the West and the East They occupied and destroyed it and then handed it over to a gang of unpatriotic thieves Something very conquers us

@@m.m.4609 One Thousand and One Nights (Arabic: أَلْفُ لَيْلَةٍ وَلَيْلَةٌ, ʾAlf Laylah wa-Laylah)[1] is a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English-language edition (c. 1706-1721), which rendered the title as The Arabian Nights' Entertainment.[2]

Beautiful. Love the statues. Everything in the middle east, as a whole, is massive. Dates are a healthy snack. Try dates and peanut butter. How generous of him to give you all those complimentary date sweets. Nice bag too. You did have more than one chip. Neat idea how they flavor the chips- that way they stay crispy. Why is it that felafel in North America look so brown, dry and overcooked. These felafels have such a nice color and the sandwich looks tasty too. Nice hosts and kind and friendly and generous too. David, you have to get those wide-fitting shoes because you walk so much. That's my friendly advice. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Canada already celebrated Thanksgiving, but we all have a lot to be thankful for: Life and everything that God has blessed us with. Life is what you make it, happiness is how you live it. So let us all make it a good one. May the good Lord bless you and keep you and may he let his light to shine on you and everyone around you. Be well and be safe 🕊️🙏👼❤️🇹🇹🇨🇦
