Lawrence Welk reruns are being shown on Wisconsin Public Television, and I tuned in one night and they did this song. It was hilarious, those vacant happy smiles, singing without an idea of what they were singing about. This wasn't B&S's best song. Rural Space used to be played a lot in the early '70s on the local FM station where I was in Illinois, still one of my all-time favorites, especially When The Truth Finally Comes.

They covered just about everything in their intro. I loved it. The Lawrence Welk version is so funny. Thank you for posting this phenomenal song.
@coldlakealta4043 Жыл бұрын
the funniest thing about the Lawrence Welk version of One Toke is that the guy doing the intro obviously knew what a "toke" meant. He is so cracked up he can hardly speak or look into the camera. Poor old LW - purveyor of drug songs.

My sister and I lived on a Royal Canadian Air Force base in the very far north. But, not that far north, eh? We played this song all the. Great times. The parental units had no idea what it was about, and thought we were getting religious with all the Jesus references. They never did figure out why the basement smelled funny. 😂☮😂

I had an interesting conversation with someone today about Tom Shipley, and I didn't know about him until today. I live in Rolla, MO, same as him, and learned about his Dodge Dart accident. Also learned he's on the board for a lot of different community projects in our town. Seems like a very nice guy with an interesting history.
