iRay RH50R Thermal Scope Review | Did iRay win me over???

Thanks for sharing this review. Last year I bought my first Thermal. Since the average shot where we hunt at is about 50 yards I went with the Pulsar Talion XQ38 and I love it. They recently had the Ballistic Calculator update for the Talion XQ38. I've downloaded it but I haven't added any of the information.

Like Pulsar they use Proprietary batteries, so a no go for me. I do like how they integrated the LRF into the housing, as it doesn't look like an afterthought. Great review.

Well Cote, just wanted to let you know I bought my Pulsar Thermion Pro XQ50LRF after your review awhile back and today my Iray RH50R arrives. @@OwnTheHunt You were right. I do love this scope. Image is amazing. Brother and I called in a couple of yotes but they stayed at 305 yards out. Had to double check the distance because they looked so clear. A couple of issues with the scope. When zooming the magnification in and out it jumps all over the place. Seems iray is aware of the issue and has this procedure to try and correct the problem but it didn't work for me. The other issue is the scope will shut off after you put it in standby mode after 30 minutes or so.( I mostly hunt out of a shooting house and usually stay for six or more hours.) So I love the scope but it's going back to get these issues resolved. Gonna test the five day turnaround promise.

@@terrymaggio2520​​⁠thanks for the feedback! I too have those exact issues with mine now and it’s with iRay to be fixed. Apparently they had a bad batch of zoom encoders which causes that jumping all over the place and they are able to replace that part and get you back in business!

How does this scope compare to the halo xrf clarity wise? I’m torn between the 2 I’m favoring halo because iv ran them for years but iv heard some good things about iray

@@bdriggs3O this scope puts the image quality of every 640 scope on the market to shame. The xrf image really can’t touch this scope. Especially in poor weather conditions.

Currently run a pulsar xp 50lrf pro on about 4 different rifle using a spur mount and haven’t had to rezero any profiles which is huge in my books. This rico has piqued my interest though. Do you have any experience swapping back and forward with different profiles on different rifles and how the qd’s hold zero? Thanks for the review 👍🏼

Hey man! I haven’t messed with multiple zero profiles on it and moving it from gun to gun, but the mount has held zero from being taken on and off a single rifle. Hope this helps! It’s a badddddd assss scope!

Biggest question is get this or wait a couple years when it gets updated with a 1080p sensor lol. Already got a RH25, so it could hold me over until then. Or wait 6-12 months for this scope to drop to 3k like the RH25 did lol.

This thing weighs 2 lbs. For those that only use short rifles like myself, the balance of the gun is off. I had to go with something much much smaller. The picture is really nice tho.

Hey mate so I picked this scope up and love it. Been using it the last couple days but it seems the ballistic calculator doesn’t compensate angle which is rather frustrating. Hopefully a future update will add this in.

In this iray LRF works while zoomed in while in thermions LRF only works in base mag. Can it show distance near the lrf mark insdead of right corner of the screen?

Great review. Iray is hard to beat in the thermal market. I didn’t catch you mention their warranty. Another 1st in thermal world 5 years and a very quick turn around.

I just got one. The battery charger didn’t come with a wall charger. I plugged it into my usual usb-c charger - no go. I had to use their usb-a to usb-c cable. Weird deal. Something about their cable special?

Sure did! I live in Maine and if a scope can’t handle the freezer then it sure can’t handle our winter! These scopes are rated to perform in freezing temps.
