Would Cult of the Lamb be considered a Farm Sim?
@ircha Жыл бұрын
@@SamsonIbarra is there farming in it? Haven't heard of it
@elinandree6640 Жыл бұрын
It’s a dungeon crawling game with some crafting and farming/sim elements I guess. It’s about a very cute satanic lamb leading a cult and recruiting cute fluffy animals that he saves in the dungeons, to be his satanic cult-followers and workers on his farm. LOVE that game! It is hilarious and very addicting 😂 should work better on switch now than when it came out.

@@ircha It's like if you combined a game like the binding of isaac with a farming sim. Great game! Also you earned my sub :) Great video!
@Minale__ Жыл бұрын
I think the farming sim genre is so huge now, it's hard to discuss them without talking about sub-categories. Most of these farming sims put emphasis on different things, hence opinions differ so much. Say, if you REALLY like highly interactive NPCs, stories, deep character connections, you will really enjoy Wylde Flowers - but you won't enjoy Fae Farm, or Grow: Song of the Evertree. But if you instead like collecting and exploring, it will be the other way round (I think farming in Wylde Flowers is just a 'side story', part of your character, but no major gameplay mechanic). If you like silly games, you will enjoy Ooblets - if you like a more serious, emotional story, it's Spiritfarer. You dislike combat? Well then Rune Factory definitely isn't the right franchise. You don't like reading a lot, even if the story is great? Skip Harvestella. We're also comparing what I'd call "small dopamine-trigger games" (like Littlewood) with HUGE giants like DDV and ACNH (which, imo, have very similar gameplay loops and if you like one, you might like the other, just like Cozy Grove). So I think it's important for everyone to decide for themselves which criteria they have and gameplay loops they prefer. Something I enjoy greatly is seeing the world around me change and develop. New characters moving in, new buildings, new structures, seeing the world isn't static. Not just on my own farm, but around me, just a natural progression of the world. I also love to optimize my routines. I see so many complaints that "everyone said Wylde Flowers is great but it's really boring?!" - Wylde Flowers is boring if you want to farm a lot and optimize your routine (and I definitely felt the same, but I still thought it was an alright game; you can tell it was made for a touchscreen). There is a lot more to farming sims these days.
@Shalyn-ln9tu Жыл бұрын
Agreed! And I think Littlewood isn't talked about enough. It's such a good game, and really cozy. I live Stardew, but the day/night cycle is too stressful to me and I want to play this game so bad. I can never go longer than Spring 1
@ataridc10 ай бұрын
What is the appeal of littlewood? It seemed soooo simple when I tried(but I didnt get very far) does it get a lot better? Cozy Grove and New Leaf are my 2 favorite games in the cozy genre so far. Yonder would prob be third.
@Shalyn-ln9tu10 ай бұрын
@@ataridc your energy is dependent on work, the donut shop gives you that boost. You unlock very interesting and useful places as you play and unlock. You can get married and have friendships and friendship events. Collect items for the museum. Eventually, you can unlock more space for your town. *So* I wouldn't call it easy. It's actually packed with a lot. Like OP stated, the farming genre is so broad, it's definitely fine to not like EVERY farm sim.

Harvestella feels like the definition of 'the sequel will be better'. They had all the components, but it was obvious that it was coming from a studio with no prior experience in the genre, and they struggled to get the formula down. In particular, the tiny profit margins, the sloooooow beginning, and the lack of real friendships/romance were frustrating. I don't know if Square Enix are interested in trying their hand at another farming sim, but if they do, I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on it!

Haven’t gotten very far in rune factory 5 it’s fun once you get into it but….decor and farming is a bit hard to get used to…more into the combat but heard great things about 4. Enjoyed my time in Portia on the PC but not a fan of the crafting since I prefer farming and the story line of saving a specific character was stressful. Thankfully saw it was laggy on the switch before purchasing. Enjoyed the date events and mini games. Story of seasons: pioneers of olive town was okay story and characters are bland like you stated. Hoping for deeper personalities like stardew valley where everyone is complex. I don't know why, maybe because of its beautiful world, gorgeous lighting, and overall art direction constantly pleases my eyes. Not to mention the performance is butter-smooth and consistent. On the other hand, i couldn't handle Rune Factory 5 at all. I'm a long time RF fans since the very first game on DS, and the fifth game just looks horrendous. Pop ins, barren town, barren landscapes, rough texture blending, lag after loading, they are too much for me. Even RF Frontier and ToD on PS3 were much better in comparison.

After I played Stardew Valley I got hooked on farming sims. I came across Roots of Patcha and gave it a go. It seems to have everything that Stardew has - NPCs with quests which you can give gifts, farming, a mines dungeon (without combat, but with puzzles), fishing and a community center like thing which requires you do discover and do new stuff in the game. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something is off with this game. In Stardew I always had a million things I wanted to do in a day and that's part of what kept me going: Just one more day so I can do x. But in Roots of Pacha I get up in the morning, water my plants and then I think: "Now what?". So I've already taken a two month break and I haven't even seen all of the seasons yet. I'll still continue to play because it's my go-to game for stressed out days at the moment. When I just need a game where I can't die, can't loose, can't really do anything wrong, and I'm really tired from work, I start playing Roots of Pacha again.

@@snowenn i played roots of pacha as it came out too and absolutely loved the concept of discovery and knowledge that came with foraging seeds and gradually domesticating the plants. Sadly, a lot of the games for the Switch appear to not have been developped thinking of its capabilities OR were over-developped to make sure it didn't crash, lowering the overall quality. Examples of not thinking about it : Harvestella - Super beautiful game, exquisite graphics BUT foggy display, sometimes low-res/high-res clashes Examples of over-thinking about it : Rune factory 5 😭- It would look soooo much better if the graphics were all as good/cute as the characters... Environment-wise, IMO it is soooo empty, probably because the Switch just... CAN'T take it 🤷♀... But they are both good games... just... should not have been developped with the Switch as a *main* console (or for the Switch at all...) I really really wanted to like Harvestella. The presentation of a farming game that doesn’t like an indie or mobile game was very appealing. The music is really good, but I disliked the dialogue and having to change classes on the fly during combat mostly. Then it was impossible to make a character that looked male and their legs look like boston dynamics robots. The creator said he’d make more if people liked it. My response to that “No we didn’t like it, but DO make another one and make it good this time.”

Great list and concise commentary! i overall agree. About Little wood which i enjoyed for 15h, i feel like people like it cuz it's really cozy and simple in the gameplay. I should try Yonder sometimes! Will you play Coral island when the 1.0 hit in a few days?

My time At Portia [i've heard] just got a big performance update on the switch (and is also like 4 dollars) so maybe it is good to try out? it also made me happy that you gave RF5 so much love (for the switch) so many people pan this game for basically not being RF4 Special. but it really is nice. this is really great. I am going to wait for FaeFarm to go on sale. but basically most of the games you have Yes on I have (or will get later) and the Nos are the ones i never was interested in to begin with. lol great minds and all of that! htank you!!

I’m liking A Wonderul Life much more than Pioneers of Olive Town…. Mainly because of the progression I think. Not many games allow you to have a child and see him/her grow to adulthood, with changes depending on spouse, your interactions and what you show him/her. PoOT has baaad characters. And friends of mineral town got old quite fast. Quite fast I felt like I had done and seen everything

I personally really love it. Just keep in mind you're not getting a lot of story or character in the game, it's just a focus on the farming and improving your tools, as well as running errands essentially. I love the way it layers and unlocks as you go, I have 35 hrs and am nowhere near the end of the game.
@ircha Жыл бұрын
@@indievariety I'm wondering, what is the benefit of doing the errand quests?
@indievariety Жыл бұрын
@@ircha The main benefit is you unlock more villages and shops, plus you gain fast travel. Other than that a lot of them are just repetitive.
@Mclearmountain Жыл бұрын
@@indievariety That sounds just what I have been needing. Almost every game that I play is heavily narrative and story-driven.
