The old version's atmosphere/coloring felt creepy to me but the new one is packed with more lore

The older version was a lot more transparent about what they were going for. Just a straight up analog horror aesthetic without a lot of substance. The final build puts more effort on story building and making the characters more expressive. There is an advantage of using a more minimalist design and having more robust horror, especially with limited game development knowledge, but games with more complex writing, expressions, voice acting, makes a more lasting impression.

Amanda’s the real example of what a fake friend is, there’s a lot of people who have fake friends out there but instead of ending that fake friendship they stay with that fake friend because they’ll rather be accompanied by a fake friend than to be seen as a loner.

I seen some theories that Wooly is there so that Amanda doesn't get angry or sad and let the demon take over her as evidenced by Ending 2 and Secret Tape 3. Wooly is aware of this too it seems, as he warns the player many times. Heck there was a Super Secret Tape 6, in which you can see Wooly in a grey room all by himself. There's a guess this is where Wooly spends his time before and after episodes and waits to he called in to help Amanda.

I genuinely like how, in the Steam version of the game, Amanda sometimes sounds like a bratty little child when she gets angry. Prime example is when she whines "I want the cookiiiiiiieeeeees!". Though my favorite freakout of hers is undoubtedly the "lonely kitten" one. Usually, if a kid's show is focusing on someone or something that's upset, there's a given sense of "this is so sad, isn't it?", in order to help the child viewer feel sympathy. Although in this game, with the lonely kitten, that "sense of sympathy" is extended to the point where Amanda herself can't take it and completely breaks down, openly and uncontrollably sobbing. I always love it when a wholesome concept gets twisted into something darker. And sure, it's theorized that the kitten is symbolic of Rebecca Colton, but even putting that aside, the scene is still plenty effective.

It's kinda funny how in my group of friends, I feel like I'm the only one who sees Amanda as actually innocent, and that it's Balam (Rebecca referred Balam as "baa lamb" so I'm calling her demon form that now) that is the actual evil here, not Amanda, whose just a vessel made that contains Rebecca's soul and Balam trapped together. Yet my other friends all call Amanda evil and want her banished from the face of the earth.

Yeah, Rebecca isn't really the evil one. In the original it was clear they were going for a more cliché approach, where Amanda was an evil entity trying to kidnap children, and Wooly was the good guy trying to save them. In the new version Amanda is just a child that got put in a TV show AND is being possessed by a demon, and Wooly tries to get by and to help the viewer, ultimately failing since Rebecca/Amanda is more powerful in the end (when possessed)

I jave never seen a full game play of the original. Didnt know that the game was over a year old either. This may be because i first discoverd her from the new game, but i like the new amanda compared to the old as it feels more believable as a children's tv program. Like its weird to have Amanda be an evil person throughout the game wanting to kill you and causing chaos and straight up being a monster or something, but the new Amanda gives me the idea that the show was a normal childrens show that kids watch and amanda became sentient and have to suffer through all the kids giving the wrong answers and stressing her out. Its even worse for her when you refuse to help the kitten. Normally she would probably respond as if you said the right answer to keep the show going like dora does, now that she became sentient she gets hurt that you refuse as she realy wants to help him. She feels trapped and thus breaks the pace of the show and glitches out and goes insaine. Thats what makes the tapes cursed and haunted.

You can tell how much the dev (main one if there are multiple) continued to work even harder because the movements are more fluid, and it just looks better at the end. Not saying it doesn’t look good at the beginning.
