We just did the ferry between Eemshaven NL and Kristiansand NO. The 18 hours trip was very comfortable. We are now looking at the Ferry trip to Ireland from Cherbourg next year. Hope driving an Electric Car is doable in Ireland.
@PlanetPatrick
@PlanetPatrick Жыл бұрын
I was just in Norway and the facilities for electric car charging were excellent. I can see there are a couple of Tesla chargers in some Irish locations and other providers too, including at traditional petrol stations. I think there are some apps that you can use, which would help you plan your route to keep charged. Safe travels!

Hello Patrick from another 4 pillow lover! We're relocating from Ireland to Sweden next Spring and doing the "flying vs ferry" thing (we have a dog). But, selfish woman that I am, all I could do when you mentioned the "rollong and pitching" was groan...I get seasick. And airsick. WHERE IS THE DAMN BRIDGE ALREADY!!? Ahem ,sorry, lol.. Please can you tell me honestly how rough it gets, and does it last most of the journey? Great vid though, thanks. :)
@PlanetPatrick
@PlanetPatrick 2 жыл бұрын
We are very special people, us 4-Pillowers! Thanks for your comment. I am not sure there will ever be a bridge, or a tunnel, but you never know! I wonder which route you are thinking of for Ireland to Sweden? To Cairnryan or maybe Holyhead or Liverpool and then to Holland or direct to Sweden from Immingham? I'm fine with gentle or even firm ferry 'rolls', but really not okay when it gets super-pitchy, at least for a long time. I can bear it if it's a short journey. I've done the Cairnryan trip tens of times (I lived in Glasgow for a while) and only once did it get very pitchy. Normally it's fine. Irish Ferries to France is mainly fine, but there is significant section where it does get pitchy, even with stabilisers. I will be posting a new video in the next week or so from Brittany Ferries from Spain to Ireland and I had to stay on the bed for a lot of the trip. I certainly couldn't read or focus. The direct ferry from England to Sweden is, I think, 28 hours. All of this depends on the weather, the time of year, whether stabilisers are used, etc. I think short journeys are fine, especially with a pet. Here's my thoughts (others, please share yours!): 1. If driving from Ireland to Sweden, go via Holyhead (short) and then cross either to Rotterdam, or take the Eurotunnel or Calais ferry. Drive to Sweden. Obviously this is a major commitment to driving. 2. Flying: some of the full-service airlines DO offer a dog-transfer service - it's much faster (more traumatic for the pooch?) and it's one and done. 3. No car? Take the train and use the Sail/Rail fare from Ireland or Northern Ireland - I'm not fully aware of pet policies, but it's worth looking into. If I've forgotten anything, prod me again!

@@PlanetPatrick Huge thanks Patrick, lots of helpful info in there and I do like the idea of the shorter ferry trip and driving up to Sweden, but also I've never heard of the Sail/Rail thing so am off to check that out. Again, many thanks, you've been really helpful. :)

Hi @Awais - you’ll need the sworn statement letter… the template is available from the Irish Ferries website (they have a page for people travelling from NI) or from the French Embassy website. It’s a one page document which you can print in advance (you must print it). Secondly, your vaccination certificate- you can use the new NI Covid app. I’d download and check it has your details *early* as there were some problems with it last month. Enjoy your trip!

@PlanetPatrick
@PlanetPatrick 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brigitta- thanks for subscribing! It does depend… if you are coming from Ireland and have an EU Country Passport, and you are fully vaccinated… then you need your Vaccine Certificate (paper or electronic) plus a sworn statement (Irish Ferries has a link to the template to print out and sign, or the French Embassy has it). There are so many other permutations… some people cannot enter France based on nationality and vaccination status, without an essential reason. So it’s worth checking to suit your circumstances. I have to say the Irish Ferries guide on their website is very detailed.
