Thanks for this video, Diane. My parents had a Theme Park in Belgium for 43 years. It started in 1961 as a music center with a venue and a huge beach. The first rides came in 1976. As it was a family business we lived "in" the park, together with my two brothers and two sisters. It was never planned by my parents to start an amusement park; it grew rather organically in that direction. Can't explain what a fantastic youth I've had there. On the other side: there's no such thing as 'fun forever', even if you have roller coasters in your backyard. But we still have very fond memories. Cheers, Tom/Thomas.

For a person like Diane (who dislikes crowds), Disneyland is probably Hell on Earth... I had a magical time at Disneyland when I was 11 years old. We went on a Wednesday morning in November of 1977. It was a cold drizzling day and the park was EMPTY. There was no lines or waiting on rides. We rode Space Mountain four times in a row, then we rode it backwards twice (all without leaving our seats). NOTHING can ever compare to that trip to Disneyland. I was spoiled for life (and I have lived in Anaheim, California for over 50 years).

A couple quick things about todays video. The name of the woman who was in the crystal Ball is Leota Toombs (is that the perfect name for someone in the haunted Mansion), she was an Imagineer and help design Disneyland. You are in fact under water in the submarine ride, the top of it isn't underwater but you are. Also its line takes a long time because it has a very low number of riders per hour because of the long load and unload times. Only about 900 people an hour can ride it where Pirates is over 3400.

Hi Diane! I was stationed at the Navy base in Orlando back when Disney World was still growing (1975-76) and ended up going at least ten times when friends and relative knew we had an apartment near it. My toddler son preferred Sea World but was influenced enough by Disney that he named his stuffed grey seal Minnie Mouse.

Hi Diane, great video. We almost had a Disney World here in Australia, located in the Gold Coast Qld. However, at he last minute Warner Brothers won the bid and all the characters had to be changed. Donald Duck to Daffy Duck would have been fairly straight forward possibly rolling him in wet tar...yuk!!! Changing Mickey Mouse to Bugs bunny would have been quite painful I think with the buck teeth shoved in his mouth and stretching his ears...ouch!!! Pluto becoming Silvester would have been quite a challenge and I wouldn't even try to imagine the character changes to Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig. Anyway, wishing you the very best. The one piece of advice which people forget to give is that to enjoy Disneyland, one has to suspend the ability to get annoyed at things for about 24 hours. Just let go of worrying about other pushy goofballs, crowds, prices high enough that you have to sell your kids for scientific research to afford it, parking 50 miles away, cheesy rides that aren't as interesting as they should etc. When you simply "let go" of the ability to get annoyed for a day, it is a wonderful place to be a kid again.

There are also a lot of Disney 'Easter eggs', including all the 'hidden Mickeys' everywhere in the park. Another tip: If you are there for a birthday, they'll give you a free cookie and a badge, and every employee in the park will stop and wish you a happy birthday.

There used to be a cable car system above ground that ran from a Swiss Chalet building , through a square shaped large opening through the Matterhorn and later added to ride into what was Tomorrow Land. these have been taken down. from Wikipedia: The Skyway closed on November 9, 1994. The reason for closure was attributed to metal fatigue. Stress cracks had developed inside the Matterhorn tower battery supports, and the only way to do maintenance was to open up the Matterhorn to do work on it.

The only "magic" is the water tight led screens showing Nemo clips in the distant. @@DianeJennings The huge burrito is what Californians call a "San Francisco burrito", or at least that used to be the common name. In the early 1970s, Taqueria La Cumbre in the Mission District (the Latino neighborhood around the old Franciscan mission from the 1770s) started making huge burritos because they provided a lot of food at fairly low cost. It doesn't take any more labor to make a big burrito than a small one, and a large part of the cost is labor. The burritos kept getting bigger; soon every taqueria in the Bay Area made them, and they spread out with chains like Chipotle. The takeaway ones usually aren't cut, because they fall apart once you break the tortilla package. If you eat them at the restaurant, they usually cut them and you eat them with a knife and fork. If you take them away, leaving them in one bundle wrapped in foil means you can eat them with one hand while you walk. It's not unusual to stretch one of those honkin' big burritos out over a couple of meals; I don't think I've been able to finish one at a sitting since I was about 30, which was half a lifetime ago.

Diane, so did you enjoy your Disney Land Day! There is a lot to see. You should go to Disney World next, but it will take a week to see it all.

I sure did. Was glad of the advice not to try and do it all in a Day.

LOL'd hard at the quartet launching into Rag Time Gal because it immediately made me think if Warner Bros. Michigan J. Frog. You have to look up that cartoon to see what I mean. 🤣

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I vaguely remember there was a period when Disney had access to the Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoon IP, and they were doing Disneyland ads featuring Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. That was jarring, because there are no cartoon characters less Disney than Bugs and Daffy, says this Warner Brothers fan. Time Warner owns the Warner Brothers catalog now, and that's a subsidiary of the organization that owns the ABC TV network, which is a division of Disney; maybe that's the connection?

Great video as always. And my usual generic comment for the Al Go Rhythm.

Yep, that's about it. I rode Space Mountain at Disney World for the first time in 1977. Over the years I've been to most of the major parks like this in the US. I'm glad to be at a stage in life where I will never need to go to another one. I guess I liked Universal Studios best and of the Disney creations the Epcot Center was best. All of them ridiculously expensive and too crowded for my taste.
