Because of its Richter tuning, which has a breath reversal from hole 7 up, In a half-valved diatonic, there are six valves on the inside of the draw reed plate in holes 1-6, and four valves on the outside of the blow reedplate on holes 7-10. As I explain in the video, these make the lower 6 blow reeds and upper 4 draw reeds play with more expression and volume than on an un-valved diatonic

Valves have nothing to do with the comb. They are fitted on the reedplate opposite selected reeds to isolate them. On a normal diatonic, when you blow some air escapes out of the drew reed slot. You can insert a valve (a small strip of generally plastic material) on the inside of the draw reedplate cover the draw reed slot. Then all your air goes only to the blow reed, making it louder and giving it a purer tone. When you draw the valve lifts up and the draw reed plays and bends as normal

Mr. Powers how did you get into Celtic music. Also do you use fiddle tunes as source material? Beautiful piece. Going to your site to see if the book is still available.

That piece would sound great in an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day. Who knows... Maybe rather than get paid cash, you're treated to countless mugs of Guinness Stout. I can live with that.

I haven't heard such brilliant playing like this since Rick Epping. Would you oblige us with Se Fa Mo Bhuartha followed by The Maid Behind The Bar?

A reel is 4/4. But you're right about the feel, a lot of Irish melody playing is on the off beat.
@behavis11 жыл бұрын
seem pretty logic with those fast folk tunes. It would seem quite a challenge to play with such speed, tongue blocked :-) I do love folk music, I remember one of the first songs I could play was dirty old town...

Hi Brendan, great video! You are an inspiring player and great teacher. I just got my first Valved Promaster today. Amazing response...but I wonder if you ever find that the valves makes it a bit 'sticky' and low in response, same as in a Chromatic like the CX-12. Have you ever experienced that yourself? I am pretty much a beginner to know what I am doing wrong :)

@kdbrewing I'm definitely not Brendan Powers but i happen to know some celtic music on harmonica and all the ones i've learned have been in first position. Some of the more minor ones could be in 3rd though.

No, a D harp is necessary also. With them you cover about 80% of the tunes.
