Many of those are aimed at the US market where you we have separate license for beer/wine and liquor. That is why they are most 5% - the percentage varies by state. You can buy beer in most stores and "lower" content wines and mixed stuff. But "hard" stuff is special stores (in many states) and more restricted hours.

Dad says he's jealous. You get to try all these different alcohol drinks and he has to set here and watch. He has to go easy on alcohol because of health reasons, but he appreciates seeing others enjoying themselves(or not enjoying themselves) and thanks you for that. Always makes me smile when people go like "yeah you can't taste any alcohol in it", meanwhile if you drink veeery rarely and even then only the mildly alcoholic stuff like beer, you can definitely taste the alcohol on any mixer or cocktail. It's fascinating how the taste buds work like that.
