Hey Seán, adding to what you were saying about liquid honey, there is a reason whiskey is granddad's cough medicine. Honestly if you DO add a little honey & sip it, works better than any cough syrup. I have a feeling this is redundant since you're Irish but some would consider putting honey in their whiskey a little sacrilegious.

Fun facts from a Taiwanese person! 1:05 Yushan translates to "Jade Mountain" and is the highest mountain in Taiwan. 3:06 Kavalan is made in Yilan County and is named after the ancestral name 噶瑪蘭 or "Kavalan." The indigenous Kavalan people who used to occupy that area are still a recognized tribe in Taiwan today. Kavalan whisky is very popular in Taiwan and abroad. In Yilan (where my father's family is from) there are quite a few Kavalan whisky stores. 3:10 Yes, that is an outline of Taiwan. They say that Taiwan shaped like a sweet potato which we call "hanji."

Bell's Palsy is temporary paralysis of (typically) one side of the face. His face was way too animated. Also, Bell's Palsy is a actually a rather weird thing to experience. Happened to me years ago and I just couldn't move the side of my face for about 6 weeks.

They gave me steroids and the problem was gone in about 24 hours. Freaky to look at your face in the mirror and see it droop like that though.

Kavalan has won multiple international awards for their Soloist version, a slightly more up market version of the concertmaster. They're incredibly well respected in the whiskey world. My goto drink is Ardbeg, but that concertmaster is my favorite unpeated whiskey.

the Taiwan icon on the Ka Va Lan is indeed the island. People joke its shaped like a "Sweet Potato." In some parts of Taiwan, calling someone a sweet potato could be considered an insult (if delivered in the Taiwanese dialect, not Mandarin)

Kavalan is produced in the Yilan region of Taiwan. Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Also, Taiwan is often referred to as having the shape of a sweet potato (very popular food item there), which is what I guess you're seeing on the box. Thanks for giving Taiwan whisky some love!

I'm based in Taiwan and I can agree that Kavalan is a more popular brand. Honestly I haven't seen Yushan being sold so far (perhaps in a specialty store), but Kavalan can be found everywhere, even the local 7 11

Honestly, I fell in love with Kavalan after tasting it in Shanghai 5yrs ago. And they were tasting the cheap ones. The ex-vino is by far the best whisky in the world!

I dont drink much at all anymore. I had my share when I was younger. But I have to admit, there wasnt a lot of variety in my youth. I see all these different kind and ways of bottling and wonder how much of a difference it could make. I always preferred my spirits straight rather then mixed or a cocktail. That is except for Gin and Tonic... My guess is that I will have to try some of the alcohols you have shown, if I can find them... It will be fun looking anyway.. thanks

Yushan, translated from traditional chinese, means "Jade Mountain". Yu refers to nephrite jade in chinese language.
