For those wondering if he is as nice, kind, and wonderful as the characters he plays...YES he is. While I've never had the honor of meeting my hero, I have to tell this story: When he was in the Dick Van Dyke show, he lived next door to my Great Grandmother (she died in 82, just after I was born), and even though he was super famous at the time, he took her trash cans out on trash day because she was too old to do it herself. He is truly an amazing man.

I first briefly saw him, along with the other cast members of the Dick Van Dyke show, while they sat around a table doing a script read-through. I was a child actress during the 1950’s - 1960’s and was filming something at the same studio. I next met him in Malibu, California, several years ago at an art festival. He was very kind, friendly, and sweet, chatting with me like we knew each other. He was also tall!

@@zacg8975 Compare this and the music and singing from Dick Van Dyke’s years, or I should say, his many decades in entertaining the world and all those wonderful songs from so many talented people, compare it to now, what happened?! I actually feel sorry for the last 2 generations, they have no idea what real entertainment is. The so called musicians of today and the last 20-30 years killed the music industry, with the exception of just a few. People can’t sing anymore without the aid of things like auto tune and anything else they can get their hands onto to change their voices and change the sounds of musical instruments. How very sad.

When he found out how expensive a children's party had become, he put his foot down and dressed up as a clown in a pair of pajamas a red nose he had made from a rubber ball. The song he sang about wanting to grow up to be a very famous clown was priceless and it remains to this day, my very favorite episode. Mr. Van Dyke? That IS your song because you ARE a very famous clown and so much more. Thank you.

When she came back to pick us up I begged her if we could stay to see it again. She let us!!!! Only movie I have ever seen twice in a row : ) Dick has always held, and will always hold, a special place in my heart. Arlene, you are a phenomenal singer! You two are truly blessed and I'm so happy. The love of my life and I were 30 years apart and I surely miss him. We had the most fun together and we could talk about anything and we had deep discussions. We also sang and danced together. A found memory for me when he was twirling me at his bedside to Candy Man at the hospital! Fast forward to 4 months later and he passed away in 2020. It would have been his 82 birthday today if he were alive. This video has uncanny timing. I loved seeing it. I just saw an episode of Dick Van Dyke earlier. I really love her voice. Outstanding!

I had the considerable pleasure and privilege of interviewing the Vantastix in Blitz Magazine when they released their debut album a little over a decade ago. Tacking the likes of absolute, utter perfection like Doris Day's Everybody Loves A Lover is not for the faint hearted. But true to form, the Vantastix (and Arlene!) absolutely nailed it. Job over the top well done.
