I love your sketchbook but I can totally relate to feeling underwhelmed that it's not overflowing with art. This used to be me everytime on vacation. One of the things I like to do now is take my little Fuji Instax and snap photos, tape them in the sketchbook and use them as inspiration for my sketches. I also like including bits of paper and flyers I find to add so it's more of a travel journal with my sketches. For me it takes the pressure off to create the best travel sketchbook ever in the world. 😁 Hope you enjoyed your vacation! 😍

I'm imprssed with how much you got done! I love all the little ships, they look so great. And the ones with the paint put down first. I really need to try that technique, because I always think the results are so stunning! And seeing all your well used art supplies makes me very happy.

Sketching on vacation is challenging, especially with kids, no matter their age! Catching the essence of what you like in a scene - even at a high-level/ helps when we go back to our photos, and we try to showcase what we loved about that moment. Claude Monet used photography that way so I feel no shame 😉 Thanks for the colorful video- you are always a creative boost!

Hi Irit ! I love your smaller, minimalist sketches with a lot of white space. I find them very inspirational for my own sketchbooks . They would look great in your Instagram page I think . And your silhouettes are quite good ! I hope this is a path you will explore again.

I really like the boats at night at Agia Anna, the "Colors of the Sea" from your room, and the first rendition of that hill with the power lines on the left side of the page! And your last pages trying to capture the colors of the water remind me of the postcards I painted at Lake Tahoe, I think I sent you one? Oh and I also like the woman in the pink swimsuit! Thank you for showing us all the sketches you don't like!

I got two takeaways from your sketchbook. The first was the minimalism and the white space, which I loved. You don’t have to fill the whole page? Who knew?! The second was prepping with bright colour blocks ahead of time and then simply using a pencil. The contrast the two mediums created was very interesting. So thank you. I too, shall take courage in hand and try outdoor sketching.

Thank you! I didn't have any issues but I made sure not to take any tubes, just very standard supplies. Paint in a palette, pencils and pastels. Had absolutely no issues!

Thank you, Irit. It is a win 🌞🗺️You have Greece in your sketchbook. Your reflection is insightful. For travel I also like water brushes. The vignettes & pre colored pages with small sketches added 💕The airplanes are my favorites. Also the color swatches are of a place I’m so glad you got back to 🇬🇷

You took a black and white palette? Haha it does not surprise me it went unused 🙂 I've bought some blending medium to try mixing with dried gouache for it to not crack/rewet better, but I still have not tried it! Imagine that 🤣

Hi, Irit! I can understand why you feel 'underwhelmed' by what you did, because of the 'other sort' of 'perfect sketchbooks' we see so much if here. *But...* I have absolutely loved and enjoyed this look at 'what _Irit_ did', far, far more than many of those aforementioned sketchbooks! Why? Because yours are fresh and real and expressive, and evocative, and happy memories of where you spent a happy holiday! There's absolutely nothing 'wrong', or 'inadequate' or 'not good enough' about any of these sketches - including the colour swatches. They scream out with joy, "Greek island!!!" And your people? What's wrong with them? Nothing at all! Not even your very leggy daughter. They are obviously people, and they are obviously on holiday. People as famous as Hazel Soan paint 'people like yours' in their work, and actually teach us to draw them like that. So please, try to stop allowing that negative, _'always comparing with x, y, z'_ inner critic to make you feel inadequate, and not-good-enough? I know I've used a lot of superlatives in this comment, but every single one was used carefully, and intentionally to express my joy while watching this video. 🤗😊
@iritlandgraf4 ай бұрын
You're too kind! Really really appreciate your comment and you're totally right, there really is no reason or place for negativity. We're all on our own journey and sketchbooks can be anything and serve many purposes. Whether they are a goal in itself or a tool. Thanks again and so glad you enjoyed!
