Love the video! It just soothed my soul to watch the watercolor effect come to life! Wanted to say: I have a perfect storage solution for these! I was at Walmart a couple of weeks ago and saw in their back to school section these plastic crayon cases. They were ridiculously cheap, too. The DS sticks fit in there perfectly! You may have seen me show my sticks inside one of these containers, in fact, on that zoom call. For those of you who have access to Walmart…

Hullo Irit, I have stopped telling anyone to buy products from Dan Smith. I know they are probably easier for you to get in the EU, But I recommend American Journey watercolor sticks! They are the same as DS, but less expensive. Yes I know they are not so available in the EU and the shipping cost might not cover the difference DS Sticks are $9.50 and the American Journey sticks are $6.50 if your buying more than 12. I do not know if those prices "translate" to your currency rates or not. Lindsay Weirich (The Frugal Crafter) buys the DS sticks as they are across the board cheaper than tubes of DS Paints! SO If you are looking for that very expensive DS color, look for it in stick form and you can save yourself some money, well you can in the USA anyways... Thanks for posting such a lovely video, Have a grand day!
@iritlandgraf5 күн бұрын
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll be in the US so I'd love to try the American journey ones. Really appreciate the tip!
@LKBearfly3 күн бұрын
I am so sorry, I have to chime in and disagree… I have tried a few of the American Journey sticks and can confidently say they are not equivalent - not even close - to the DS watercolor sticks. They are more like the Neocolor 2s, in my experience. Waxy. They are good, but just not the same. They definitely definitely melt if you try to take them into hot weather. Not the case with DS. DS definitely has special colors. I have not found the American Journey sticks to be granulating. I recognize, too, that DS is expensive. So is American Journey!! But you get so much more out of the DS sticks…
@mjpete273 күн бұрын
@@LKBearfly well not having used both and only experienced the American Journey sticks and paints I felt I can recommend them. I had no trouble getting the ultramarine to granulate, but it was not a super granulator, yet I just cannot bring myself to tell anyone to buy a DS product. I truly despise their ethics and business practices. I feel they have lost their way and while making money is important for every company, there is mo reason to lie cheat and steal from customers! Just one persons opinion, but I am not alone in these thoughts. I am not going to bully anyone but neither will I be silent of their perfidy!
@BrendasArt3 күн бұрын
@mjpete27 you can always advice different options with different budgets and still mention for example Daniel Smith are the best of these. that doesn't harm in any way. for me personally for example I rather save up longer to buy the better ones than going cheaper and less satisfied about it. for everything, also for example a fridge, we have a saying in the Netherlands cheap buy is expensive buy, as you need to replace faster.
@hearterin2943 күн бұрын
@@mjpete27You literally said AJ are the same as DS, then in the next comment said that you haven’t tried the DS watercolour sticks. It’s a dishonest statement to make, and could lead people to wasting their money based on your false recommendation. I’m not sure what beef you have with DS. Other than the whole Primatek debacle, I’ve found them a very good company to deal with.

Hey i have a question. Maybe you answer this in the video at some point. If so, I'm sorry. My question is this, do they have the same exact consistency as watercolor pans? Are they any easier to draw with then a dried watercolor pan would be?
@iritlandgraf6 күн бұрын
I would say they are very comparable. With pans (or if you put these in pans) you can spray them and let the water sit a bit to get them even more moist, but the sticks work really well as is. If you like super gooey (like honey based) paints then these might be too dry but I find them super pigmented and easy to use. Hope that helps!
@kathyhackney79506 күн бұрын
@@iritlandgraf ok so my question is if you were to take a half out and draw with it..do these work better or worse than a half pan would work for drawing with? Or have you tried drawing with a dried half pan?

I have a lot of Tim Holtz products and the smallest Pansartax cubes (~15 cm or 6 in cube) is the solution I didn't know I was looking for. I have an aversion to tapered bins, so also got the medium and large sizes of Pansartax. I love them but they are able to flex a bit still, but otherwise they're perfect. :)

Watching videos like this is so fun and on the other hand a little toxic because… seeing all the fun colors makes me want to buy more paint. 😅 I set up a watercolor triad that is supposed to be a modified Zorn palette. This time with genuine Alizarin Crimson and Indian Yellow. I always wanted to know what the deal is with Alizarin Crimson and why so many people still use it. It’s a little treat for my upcoming birthday. 😊 Love your videos, Irit. ❤

I was really smiling to myself as I was watching your video! I'm always for more ideas to maximize the space I have. My WHOLE craft/sewing room is totally Ikea. Six of the low Alex units put together have created a great swing/craft table in the middle of my room. Give me so much storage underneath. have another tall one that has all my machine embroidery threads in it, and another low one for my printer, with all the related things in the drawers beneath it. I also have Kallax units for storing all my paper crafting items, both in the main part of the room and in the closet. What would crafters do without Ikea. 🤣

Love this video thank you for sharing. Do you have any videos to show the process of how you use soft pastels with the gelli plate like you showed in your sketch book?
@iritlandgraf22 күн бұрын
I actually made one for my membership, but I will do my best to also create one for KZbin soon. It's a lovely technique, although honestly, not much to it! Draw with soft pastels (they do need to be VERY soft, Sennelier works, but some colors better than others, Jackson's too and I'm sure there are more but those are the ones I have) on the gelli plate. Then add acrylic paint OR matte medium and print. Alternatively, you can draw on paper with soft pastels, then apply paper to gelli plate- the pastels will transfer to the plate. Add acrylic paint and print! I tried to find a good tutorial on KZbin, but seems like there's really a need for one ;)
