I would love to sink into a comforting art haul/ supply video now, as I so often have. But I'm in the US. It's Nov 6, around 5:30 pm and I'm having a hard time relaxing and concentrating on much of anything that I would typically do. Like millions of others I'm stunned about "the shock heard 'round the world" election news yesterday. I'm so glad that there are so many wonderful and comforting art channels like yours, Irit. I always follow the unspoken rule to not bring up politics or other controversial topics into all of our happy spaces and "islands of calm," so I'm not going into any further details than I already have. Just please keep your American friends and viewers in your thoughts or prayers, especially for those of us who are deeply concerned about this unexpected outcome and what it will mean for the future.

I feel you Nancy. My own homeland is dealing with so much right now as well, political turmoil and war. Let's hope better times are ahead! This place is for us to escape and enjoy art :) It's my therapy and I'm sure many others feel the same, it helps to deal with things we cannot control.

Hullo Irit, I am so glad that you enjoyed your trip to visit us before a segment of the population went insane and elected a criminal. I had an Aunt that painted with encaustics. She had my uncle convert a soldering iron (a tool to melt solder for electrical connections). I imagine that you could use a wood burning tool as well. It had differing tips with various shapes, kinda like having different brushes but hot iron tips for melting the colored wax blocks. She used oil pastels as well. You should try to use the pan pastels as you would any soft pastels, a good paper and no fixative is needed. I have enjoyed using my Tri-color pencils from Koh-I-noor! They are very similar to the art pencil you brought home. The sets or color combinations are very fun and can make mixing colors easier too! Thanks for sharing your goodies from your trip with us. Please take care and have a lovely day.

Hi! I'm very grateful for your comments but I kindly ask them to be respectful. My channel is for art and escapism. I know political turmoil and war in my own homeland but prefer to keep this space a happy place for us creatives to talk color and art and forget for a short moment the scary times we're living through. Thank you for your cooperation ❤️

I've had the painting set of panpastel on my wishlist for a while now. That set is definitely the way to go! I was really inspired by watching some of Les Darlow's videos. They work amazing on Pastelmat, and you don't necessarily need to fix them on that surface, because they merge with the paper so much. Grittier pastel papers tear up the sponge applicators a lot. Very cool that you went to Wet Paint; I have ordered from them. Great store!

Thanks for sharing Jenn! I'll check his out :) Hope you get the set!

Hi Irit, You got some really good items from your trip to the US. I have the watercolor canvas is very good with watercolor, stamps and acrylic. It is very soft, I even sewn them to make a cover journal for my oil paints. Both oil pastels you got are so good, buttery and creamy you will enjoy them. I recently bought a lot of Midori MD notebooks due to them being on sale on Amazon US. I love them but you might enjoy a blank planner which is called 1 day a page diary, codex version. Midori also has a cotton F0, F2 and F4 size for these notebooks which are larger in size than your A5, 6 sizes. Nitoms Stalogy is makes Japanese notebooks similar to Hobonichi and are cheaper. I have recently bought a lot of items coming in from Japan into the US by the way of Amazon. Love all the cool things you got and happy you are back so we can see your videos. Maria

The Mungyos are so good. I have the 72 set I think? It's the smaller one that comes in a wooden box. I eventually want the whole thing ... they're updated complete set has some nice pastels and neutrals. Oh you got Midori MD! I think you'll love it. It's surprisingly robust. If you are good with your water and embrace crinkle, you can watercolor on it. They JUST came out with a THICK paper and it's coptic bound with an exposed spine. I am working through a square one now and it's as good just less crinkly.

Looking forward to seeing you use the encaustic. A few years ago I bought a 'behemoth' whiskey painters palette, which was half watercolour pans and half encaustic pans. I bought it only because I thought I could remove the encaustic trays section of it, and use it to house all my WN watercolour half pans. When it arrived I realised I couldn't remove the encaustic section, and ever since, have wondered if I'll ever stray into encaustic, for that reason alone! I've heard it's expensive, so I hope you don't inspire me!!!

I’m sorry that happened with your planner! People steal stuff all the time here and it’s annoying. Like you have to carefully inspect packages of pokemon cards because people will steal single packs from a bundle of cards. And ruin the whole package of cards for people who buy them. Speaking from an almost experience. Luckily I noticed before we bought it but it was really upsetting.

Excellent Haul! Your selections were great. It's my first time hearing of encaustic wax paint but the medium really interests me. Timestamp 22:49 - IMO, returning the $50 JIBUN-TECHO would have been appropriate. 👍🏼🤨🧐😔FYI, haggling in the U.S. is done by requesting a manager.🙏🏼 It isn't considered rule unless the customer's behavior is rude and being nice usually gets a greater discount. 🙂☺🤗 Unfortunately most U.S. retail workers are part-time employees,😒😳🥺so their product knowledgeable may be limited and their workload usually makes providing a standard answer easier than calling someone. 😏🤔🤥 However managers should have greater knowledge and a greater interest in placating customers🧐🤑🤫. Even managers at low-end U.S. retail stores, like Walmart, are able to provide minimum discounts and approve returns at their discretion.

I wish the Canadian dollar was stronger, I look at the prices of art supplies or anything for that matter and I get all excited till I work out the exchange 😢. But a great haul.
@iritlandgrafАй бұрын
Yes exchange rates and different currencies can be very frustrating! Many times I choose not to order from outside Europe because of these issues...
@amandahodgin9316Ай бұрын
Fellow Canadian wishing that we had more Canadian art brands that could be more affordable. I would also love to have an art supply store in my area. I don’t like buying online all the time. I want to touch things and look at them in person.
@iritlandgrafАй бұрын
There is a Canadian watercolor brand I've really been wanting to try, they have lots of granulating colors that look lovely, Rockwell. Wish they were more widely available!
@amandahodgin9316Ай бұрын
@@jeanetteanderson3912 I have never heard of them. I just looked them up. They look amazing. They aren’t much more expensive than Daniel Smith is here. I imagine I would have to pay a huge amount for shipping, though. If I ever get some I’ll send you some samples.
@iritlandgrafАй бұрын
Oh no... Is shipping within Canada also super expensive? Within Europe it's reasonable most of the time (almost never free though... except Amazon) but once it's anywhere outside Europe the price sky rockets!

But never tried them yet. I can't wait to see what you create! Have you tried any cold wax medium? I bought a jar that was on clearance, but haven't dived in yet. Thanks so much, Irit! 💗🩵🩷
@iritlandgrafАй бұрын
Hey Nancy! Glad you're back ❤️ I have tried cold wax medium. I like to layer it on collage because it pushes back the patterns and then add oils on top. It can also be mixed with oil paint to add body to it but then they lose their shiny finish so I didn't really like that effect... I will be starting the encaustics series soon!
