I think the problem with being in a true manic phase is that sometimes there is literally nothing you can do to stop yourself, even if you know its there. I met a lady who had bankrupted herself by buying a house she couldn't afford. When she came out of her manic phase she realized how badly shed f* up but it was too late to go back on the deal so she was in the clinic whilst desperately trying to sell the house. Another girl I met was presenting "normal", finished her lunch and then began casually eating her glass, cutting up her mouth before doctors could stop her. I think a lot of people don't realize that Manic phases can last for months in extreme cases and that being in a manic phase isn't always running down the road wiggling your arms like a loon. You can be in the middle of a manic phase and absolutely ace an interview and present as completely fine and normal to others, leading you to convincing people you can afford the house or the sports car or the round-the-world cruise when you absolutely cant. Or in this case that you should get a 100mil deal, only to lose it once the mania makes you presentably manic. Poor guy definitely needs professional help and to be removed from his yes-men
