as an ex Disney animator and artist what is important for me to see here is that it shows the many different iterations and changes made, the mistakes and change of mind etc as this is very typical with concept art. for new artists its important to know that it is ok to try something, see it doesn’t work, and start again. I wore out many a blue pencil…

I think AI art is not the same. People wont pay money for a piece that took 3 minutes to do. Actual artists however, they put work in their pieces wich is not only a sort of magical thing to think about when looking at a piece and seeing that it was all drawn, every line, every pop of color, every beam of light, but it is also a selling point i think. You could compare it with food i guess. There is food out there that was harvested in giant farms, super quick, super cheap. Still, many people buy bio food or eggs that were collected from chickens on a field and not in a small box. Not many people want something they could create themselves with minimal effort, they want something someone spent time on, something that has a meaning. Im an artist myself and i think this is what keeps me going even though i could create better pieces way quicker using ai

This is the first video by you I've watched and it's SO nice seeing someone with a similiar work flow! I get discouraged a lot when watching artists' art time-lapses because their first sketches are usually so refined and orderly with clear visions. My first sketches are often so loose it makes me think my vision will not be clear. But this video really reminded me that it's okay to go back over and refine my sketch - that it isn't an exact reflection of the final piece and doesn't need to be perfect. I'll be coming back to watch this every time I need the reminder that my sketches can turn into something as beautiful as your art. Thank you for sharing! ❤️

Im mesmerized by the amount od detail you have put into this work. Its as if, if someone came up with the challenge of making it as detailed as you possibly can, you've definitely achieved it. Hey I’m an artist on paper, but on screen… Gosh. A blind person can do a better job than me. Then the algorithm found this gem for me. You are absolutely skillful, really good at what u are doing, and I appreciated that you just didn’t retrace the skulls but remade them instead. That’s what an artist does. Of course of course, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to undermine your efforts 😅 I understand that it took a while in real time (on that note, would you mind sharing how many hours it took to make this?) Definitely feel you there bec I take time creating my pieces too 😭 When I said quick, I meant in reference to the video hehe. In the 25-min video, 16 mins was spent on lineart and 9 mins for coloring. I thought that you have a great grasp of color and rendering bec of that 👍

I'm confused. In your initial concept sketch at about the 0:36 mark, you clearly show one-point perspective where all the lines are merging at a distant point through the door. Yet the top door frame and the window frame appear the have a second perspective that goes off to the left. It seems to me that if you are only using one point perspective that the top door and window frames should be parallel to the floor, not angled as you have it. BTW, before anyone says "this is fantasy"; it doesn't mean that the laws of perspective shouldn't apply. Take a look at any fantasy artist/illustrator like James Guerney, Boris Vellejo, Frank Frazetta, Maurice Sendak, H.R. GIger, Escher! All of them create incredible fantasy art, but they still use persepective to make it look "real".

Hey :)! oh yeah i know, its a 1 point perspective. i just wanted to make the doorway and window angled a bit off. They arent angled because of perspective. theyre angled because theyre just built a little lopsided and one of the wood beams on the door is taller then the other xD.

That's the way the main gate to my garden is, and I didn't do it on purpose! It was because it was difficult to hold the crossbeam up in the air 8 feet while trying to drill the holes for the bolts to go into it. Love the result of your commission.

@@irlanderillustrations7517 Well, I didn’t completely lose my ability; just a major change; I was left handed (53 years) and had a stroke that left me hemiplegic (left side is paralyzed), so now I’m doing the best I can with my right hand which still works fine.Just hard to get used to using my right after being a lefty my whole life until March of 2019. Your process and approach reminded me of the way I used to work. Very happy I found your channel! The look of this piece is awesome! Thank you.

400 DPI, 1920x1080P (should have done it bigger TBH) Shadow mode always set to multiply. and above the color layer. highlights set to Overlay and above the color and shadow layer but below the linework.

i just use the technical pencil for sketch and the studio pen i think for inking. round brush for colors. air brush for any gradients and lighting.

This is INSANELY good but more importantly so inspiring! Question: how did you get arround to mastering shadow/lighting and relevant coloring when it comes to the two? Question obviously open to everyone here that's good at this!

Lots and lots of practice and experimentation with different layer modes. also having good references for trying to replicate lighting. also doing life studies or image studies of images with good lighting so that you learn how shadows fall on certain objects and shapes and how they relate to one another :D. Im no expert but i try to just practice lighting alot hehe

well i have like ambient vigettes but most of my shadows are on one layer. purple shade. set the layer to multiply and paint them over your flat colors :)!
