These are not 3rd world countries all these islands are either owned by the Americans, British, or the French. So they need to do their damn job and take care of these people these governments even had warnings they should have provided free passage to another place like in the states or inside Britain or France where they are citizens too!!!! It's not like they can't freely travel to these countries bc they are citizens

I like your logic, this is not the third world! so if they were part of the third world they shouldn't be helped? Second I will give you some geography lesson Antigua and Barbuda which was the most affected island does not belong to any developed country, if those islands have high quality of life is because of the tourism that they receive and that is not because they are a dependency of any European country or the U.S. They are the ones who have built their richness.

You would think so. Yes we help one another but after everything settled down it was almost everyone for themselves. But there were people who were different. Do you know the most deaths from hurricane Irma came after. People kill one another because the cops couldn't do it all in this state of panic. It was the perfect time to take out others who did you wrong or etc. But then again the people who were in prison went to look and see if their families were alive and helped out.

Barbuda don’t have any money to rebuild, we know what that means: (1) evacuating everyone from the island (2) super rich developers come in and buy up everything and build homes, resorts, golf clubs for the rich. (3) hold back all financial aid for rebuilding from the people.

2 1/2 months after Irma, Heather Kirk & Baby Luke are trying to rebuild their lives. They have rented a condo on the Island of Antigua where Capt. Kirk has family. We have a new boat coming early December and will sort where to begin rebuilding the business & our lives in the Caribbean. Conditions on Tortola are improving ever so slowly. A recent trip back there resulted in illness and the sad realization that they can not return and do business as usual. Thank God we have a very generous Boss who instantly purchased the only built ready to go Catamaran on the plant. We will fulfill our obligations for previously booked charters through February and look to go wherever the clients wish. Thank you all for the support, prayers, and much needed clothing items. So Grateful for LIFE!

What I don't understand is why are people just trying to get into markets to buy food now when they knew the hurricane was coming. They had enough time to buy food and water to last for at least a week if they only bought a little every other day. I'm sure a lot of people did else the situation would be much worst. People have got to look at how the government responded to other hurricane victims and do things for themselves. They should have put together to get food and water for at least a week. I think most of the people we see on television wait for the government to help them and they get caught without food or water. They don't learn from past performance of the government.

Perhaps I can explain as I was there. It doesn't matter how much food you bought in preparation for the storm, it is irrelevant when your house and every possession inside has been blown away and destroyed. The devastation there was so intense the media cannot even begin to explain it. We had seen devastation on TV, but to actually experience what we had was nothing like seeing it on TV. I agree that nobody needed to loot on day one, but i can also tell you that in the first month we only saw food aid twice. We were lucky in that where we stayed was not destroyed and our stockpile lasted. For those that lost theirs and had no access to cash as the banks were closed (destroyed) and pretty much everyone was unemployed, it was a different story. #BVISTRONG

And another thing, it appears the press is deliberately not showing some islands in Irma path. Perhaps because they were shock not to find us all in splittered huts. They only care about getting a good soundbite and picture to suit their narrative.

Every country and state should have rainy day funds for natural disasters, especially those directly and historically in hurricane zones. Puerto Rico, Barbuda, Tortola.....All these islands are shocked, shocked, and now they expect others to DO SOMETHING. It looks like Puerto Rico will get more aid and money than any of the 50 states. Pray that it NEVER gets statehood.

Not sure why that BBC reporter was yelling at that guy. She asked a question and then when he tried to answer she cut him off and yelled at him. Its not like the UK can just magicly teleport stuff from THOUSANDS of km north in a day.. It take DAYS to ship stuff, and their lucky they showed up when they did cause with that timing they would have had to have the ship loaded in advance. Also if the food situation was as bad as the reporter was trying to say the US would have air dropped food aid in. The last thing the US is goning to do is let all those people starve and then have reporters film it and blame them. Really if I where that MP that she yelled at I'd have her job.

She rightly conveyed the message with intensity to the colonial governors of Britain. If it was a canadian island we would be down there the next day with hercs! Maybe they ought to give the island to us!

Tom Power , in fact Canada was down there with a herc, it brought back 5 family members who are now living with us. The Canadian government let them in with expired BVI passports and the community support has been overwhelming here. Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone still on island.

I don't understand why the British press keeps criticising the aid the British military and UK government is giving to the territories. The last thing we need in this devastated community is for the anti-British, pro independent local voices to get agitated. The BVIslanders need to do like Anguilla/Turks and Caicos and stay off camera. We need help now. Nothing good will come from blaming the UK for this natural disaster. I even saw some locals in St. Martin swear at Canadian/American press and tell them to stop taking pictures and help. Time to bicker about response efforts can be debated next year. We can fish and cook rice until more supplies get in. We don't need electricity to roast fish. If we want water, we can dig our own wells. These folks are cut off and the media should be informing them about the relief flights coming in. Laura Bicker we are not helpless. We will rebuild. Help is on the way. Thank you Boris. We know this will be a long term rebuild.

What really boggles my mind is no one built a desalination still out of some pots and a little copper tubing! How stupid do you have to be to not do that! How far away is England from Antigua? You can just shit supplies and wish they were there! You have to ship them, and that takes time.

The Govenor in STT signed a declaration 48 hours before the storms stating that all legal weapons could be seized by law enforcement or national guard for the protection of the islands. Complete violation of the Constitution. He should have been arrested and thrown in jail immediately. Basically allowed all the criminals to rob anyone on the island who was not armed. Complete breakdown of civilization.
