Metal IS the classical music of today. The majesty of Hallowed Be Thy Name is a metal classic,possibly in the top 15 metal songs.I was born in 70 and i hit the teenage years with this music as the soundtrack to my life. I picked up guitar at 12 and taught myself how to play with the metal from this era and i think it gave me the best guitar playing to aspire to that there possibly could be. I ate,drank,breathed,slept,and smoked metal. I wouldnt trade those times, and especially that music to learn from. It makes me feel like i was a kid hearing this for the first time watching her first time reactions.

You should really see them live if you can. They put on such an amazing show in concert. They are currently on tour in the U.S. I will be seeing them in Phoenix, Az in September. The last time I saw them, I drove to Vegas from Tucson because I thought they weren't going to be anywhere near me on that tour. Please do When the Wild Wind Blows from their 2010 album The Final Frontier. I don't know if you know this, but Bruce Dickinson (singer) is also a world-class fencer and a commercial pilot. He flies their Boeing 747 when they are on tour. Before every show, he puts on roller blades and skates around the parking lot of either the venue or the hotel while singing the setlist to stay in shape both vocally and physically.

You can hear and appreciate the immaculate timing, musicianship and skill of the instrumentalists and Bruce’s incredible vocal talents. I ended up playing bass guitar and singing in a metal band that did Iron Maiden and Judas Priest covers so it’s great to hear you guys understanding the whole classic/metal connection.

This is Iron Maiden's first album I heard from them in the mid eighties and definitely a masterpiece. Steve Harris, the bassist, is the genius behind these compositions. Great reaction mates! THE album that really put Iron Maiden on the map. Bruce's voice just allowed to to go all out with all the melodies they had in mind. He has both the high notes and the raw sound, in addition to insane endurance and legendary stage presence. A very important step forwards in the nwobhv. Looks like I'll have to subscribe ;) 355. I will say, you got an awesome lady. Kel, cheers to you! Yes, the boots look great indeed.... :) (I do hope that I'm not mistaking your names). Btw Rich, I didn't catch the entirety of your tattoo. I assume it's הבה נקבל עלינו and then I can't see the rest. So "Let's accept upon us...", and another illusive word. Don't worry, I'll lurk your videos from now on to get upon the rest ;) *Suggestion section* Btw, I'm glad to see that you offer her a good course of progression. Starting at the beginning of "meal" (More or less), or with easier bands to digest like Dream Theater. I do hope that you will both explore some of the darker genres/sub genres, which are too numerous to count. But as with most things, continuing slowly if the best strategy. I will, however, suggest one song from my favorite band of all time, which is not too rough even for those who are just starting this journey: Septicflesh - Dark Art. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3LbdIlmg5horpo Well, I would actually suggest "Portrait of a Headless Man" from the same album (Codex Omega. 2017. Perhaps their best, although my favorite is Sumerian Daemons). But Dark Art is a song that not many pay attention to in reactions... Well, except for Drop Z Spilling the Tea (Who is an angel. Really, you guys will love her). Plus, if looking at it without bias, in might very well be one of the greatest songs they have written. So I would suggest either Dark art or Portrait of a Headless Man. Although my favorite song, if from the time they were Septic Flesh (Before communion, which marked a new state of music after they took a break and became Septciflesh). And it is "Virtues of the Beast". Superb melody that I can never get enough of... They play symphonic death metal, but they also have some Gothic elements, slightly akin to Therion (Especially in their first 5 albums). But the difference between them and most other bands who use "symphonic" instruments, is that Speticflesh does EVERYTHING on their own: 1. Christos, the guitarist, studded composition. So in their albums, they play and record with a full, live orchestra and he is the one writing all of the music. So while many other bands have to rely on the orchestras to write their parts, Christos is the one behind everything. 2. Seth, his brother and the vocalist, studied fine arts. He is creating all the albums covers and artistic designs for the band. In fact, you can order an art piece from him (For about 300$, which is nothing compared to what you receive). There are tons of huge bands who bought their albums covers from him (Moonspell, I think all their albums are featuring Seth's art lol). Looks for Spiros Antoniou for his website, he is very creative in his works. And his growlings, they are some of the deepest and most raw. He is a great death metal vocalist. 3. In live shows they really give 100% to the experience itself: They play as hard as they can, Seth is repeating "My friends" and "Are you ready motherfuckers" around 80000 times each show... But the points is, that they don't just play the music. They really want the crowd to engage in everything. They come from a view that you know the music, that now you want to really connect with the band members themselves. So this is what they aim for. But nonetheless, they nails the songs.

Oh for shits and giggles Tony MacAlpine is also a clasically trained pianist. Becker was on his way to super stardom before he was diagnosed with ALS at 20. He's almost 50 now and can only communicate with his eyes yet he STILL composes incredible compositions. All of these guys are clearly "metal" guitarists but omg. Their instrumental compositions are astounding. Have fun discovering these guys.

How about Blood Brothers, Revelations or The Clansman by IM? If you do clansman try a recent live version because it features Bruce Dickinson...the studio is still great but it had the middle era singer (Blaze Bayley) who wasn't same level as Bruce. Any of those 3 are awesome though. Many others from then as well.

Heard this for the first time in 1982, I was 11 years old, My intro to my Metal Life, This song held great significance to me as this was one of the first Melodic masterpieces that actually rattled my wee brain (that as it was) love that you both enjoyed the music but would love to see you both re-visit this song lyrically, Appreciate the story that you kind of talked over.

If you want I can send you some great songs although I know you get a million suggestions by others. I know some more obscure bands and I know all the popular ones too. I really can't comprehend how someone can get to their age without having heard Hallowed Be Thy Name, a song that is quite possibly one of the greatest rocks songs ever written, it is up there with Stairway to Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody and Metallica's One as the greatest songs of all time.

I am 32 and I just discovered this a few months ago and I listen to metal and rock-- this is classic
@kelligafter5025 жыл бұрын
ian clark I studied only classical music and was rarely ALLOWED to listen anything but. Then when I was a younger woman and not living at home with the parents those around me pissed all over this kind of music. It wasn't until meeting Rich and confessing my inner love of metal and progressive that he started slowly introducing me to it. I LOVE IT. And Rich unfortunately had some run in with some guys who were dicks early on as a kid who were devoted IM fans. He automatically associated being a dick with this music so he made an effort to side step it entirely. We both are making up for lost time!!!

The first thing my Guitar teacher back in highschool told us(after, no metallica! lol) was "Everything u hear in heavy metal bands, mozart/beethoven have already played...they just didnt have distortion and amps." So very true, when u look at the musical notes.

Listen to deep purple child in time live 1970 you won't be disappointed. Great reaction you will need to listen to Bruce doing it live now. One of those songs you wish you could forget and hear it again for the first time again. Another great modern Maiden song is When the wild wind blows, it has similar dynamics to Hallowed.
