It's hard to say which is the best live version of this song. If you listen to the one from 1982 He's almost 20 years younger and hasn't had throat cancer, but his technique isn't as polished. With this version it sounds to me like he has to work for the notes he was hitting with raw talent back in the '80s. Either way, Bruce Dickinson is an amazing talent and not only will his vocals leave your jaw on the floor he'll perform them while running and jumping around the stage.

Totally agree with @pappajudas (5 months ago). I’ve never been huge into Iron Maiden as much as I was into other bands, but it just so happened that EVERY single boyfriend I had was a die hard Iron Maiden fan. I do seriously appreciate their amazing talents though. Not just Bruce Dickinson’s vocals but the entire band! They are all MASTERS of their instruments! I’m pretty sure I heard or read somewhere that Bruce had some classical voice training, possibly even some opera? I’m sure your die hard Maiden fans can tell us. In any case, I love watching your reactions, how positive you are and how excited you get hearing new amazing music. Min 19:05 to 19:25 of you perfectly says it all! Keep it up!

Another fantastic review!!! 🤘 I was one of the many fans of your videos waiting with bated breath for those "key points" throughout the song to see how you would react... those long notes at the beginning and end of the song are where I learned that very breath control you spoke of... You really MUST practice to get it to the point where you can hold and power through those notes lasting for 20 or 30 seconds (or more!) and that only helps to make your singing even better everywhere else...🤘 it proved VERY useful during my dabbling in theater and I became quite sought after for a long time for being able to sing and fill a theatre with sound, learn lines in record time, and to accentuate my visual performance on stage to an audience that ranged into several hundreds ( I think one or two even hit up to over a thousand!) Always keep teaching and learning and sharing with everyone!! 🤘🤘

Have seen this vid. Live in 82 Hammersmith has better vocals. (Best concert for overall sound on any song. Still early in their career, so not a huge selection of hits). The intro might be like Hells Bells, maybe? 250K in attendance here. The audience always sings along on every song. I've been to 27 (best guess) shows. My suggestions include Wasted Years, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Aces High, Powerslave, & the Number of the Beast for starters.

This was the encore at the end of a nearly 2 hour set, they played one more song after this (Sanctuary), and then did an “encore encore” of Run To The Hills after that! I dare say they could’ve gone another hour even after that, Bruce was in his vocal prime here (in his 40s). He had all the power and range of his 20s, coupled with the maturity of experience. He still has the power and range now in his 60s, but his voice sits a little deeper now than it used to, and he has to push a little harder for those high notes. But he can still hit them. There’s an audio clip of Bruce from 2003 (I think), he holds a 40 second note and he wasn’t even singing a part of the song, he was doing a “call and response” with the crowd. He literally held a long note as a challenge to the crowd. For the sheer hell of it.

'68, Marquee Club) of a band who (a few months after) would change their name from The NEW YARDBIRDS to LED ZEPPELIN. It was while living in East London (Stratford) that I discovered a local band called IRON MAIDEN; they became the "house" band at a Pub called The Cart and Horse. Well, Bruce leased it through his aviation company. But it was for long enough for them to give it their own paint job. That was for The Book of Souls World Tour in 2016-2017. Most impressively, he regained his Airline Transport Pilot's Licence medical post-cancer-treatment and re-rated for the 747-400 to captain it. Most airline pilots with his ratings are retired by his age, so he has to renew every 6 months and it is a very exhaustive and (for most) exhausting medical - like running on the treadmill with a 12 lead ECG hooked up and a facemask to measure VO2MAX type exhausting. The earlier tour was on a 757 in 2008-2009 and for much of both airborne tours they were given the Flight 666 designation and most ATC facilities recognised the callsign Ed Force One.

I was at this show and it was phenomenal, because bruce dickinson had just returned to the iron maiden and my friends and I agreed to go to this show, just for bruce's return up the irons!!!!

When they toured in the 80's the drummer got the nickname "The Octopus" from other rock and metal drummers. No one had ever seen a drummer with such a huge drum set that actually used all of his drum set. One of the things I absolutely adore about Maiden: All of them are absolute masters at their craft.

Saw them for the first time in Germany in 1982. Twelve more times after that. 😎

I can’t wait for Maggie to get around to reviewing King Diamond (ideally sleepless nights- live at the Fillmore).

The concert was in 2001, he had cancer surgery 15 years later.

You should have done the 81 Hammersmith concert. He's younger and he hasn't been through throat cancer yet.

Eu estava nessa multidão enlouquecida. Foi o melhor show da minha vida dentre dezenas de outros que presenciei

Hi Maggie. I would suggest that you give ‘Senjutsu’ (title track). The truth is that the first 3 tracks are worth reviewing. Happy New Year Maggie 🤘🎸🎸

The most impressive thing of this performance (and of that “GOD BE WITH YOU!”) is that Bruce delivered it at the end of a 1h30 concert and with a vocal line so hard because it’s fast and constantly high. In the original recording he didn’t do the octave jump.

Try "Aces High" if you want to hear Dickinson's range.

at the time of this concert he had been singing this song for over 23 years....so, i say he has done a phenomenal job of taking care of his voice. he is also a polymath.

I can see Maggie being a lead singer in a symphonic metal band.
