Well, Bruce leased it through his aviation company. But it was for long enough for them to give it their own paint job. That was for The Book of Souls World Tour in 2016-2017. Most impressively, he regained his Airline Transport Pilot's Licence medical post-cancer-treatment and re-rated for the 747-400 to captain it. Most airline pilots with his ratings are retired by his age, so he has to renew every 6 months and it is a very exhaustive and (for most) exhausting medical - like running on the treadmill with a 12 lead ECG hooked up and a facemask to measure VO2MAX type exhausting. The earlier tour was on a 757 in 2008-2009 and for much of both airborne tours they were given the Flight 666 designation and most ATC facilities recognised the callsign Ed Force One.

It's hard to say which is the best live version of this song. If you listen to the one from 1982 He's almost 20 years younger and hasn't had throat cancer, but his technique isn't as polished. With this version it sounds to me like he has to work for the notes he was hitting with raw talent back in the '80s. Either way, Bruce Dickinson is an amazing talent and not only will his vocals leave your jaw on the floor he'll perform them while running and jumping around the stage.

Have seen this vid. Live in 82 Hammersmith has better vocals. (Best concert for overall sound on any song. Still early in their career, so not a huge selection of hits). The intro might be like Hells Bells, maybe? 250K in attendance here. The audience always sings along on every song. I've been to 27 (best guess) shows. My suggestions include Wasted Years, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Aces High, Powerslave, & the Number of the Beast for starters.

I’ve never been huge into Iron Maiden as much as I was into other bands, but it just so happened that EVERY single boyfriend I had was a die hard Iron Maiden fan. I do seriously appreciate their amazing talents though. Not just Bruce Dickinson’s vocals but the entire band! They are all MASTERS of their instruments! I’m pretty sure I heard or read somewhere that Bruce had some classical voice training, possibly even some opera? I’m sure your die hard Maiden fans can tell us. In any case, I love watching your reactions, how positive you are and how excited you get hearing new amazing music. Min 19:05 to 19:25 of you perfectly says it all! Keep it up!

This was the encore at the end of a nearly 2 hour set, they played one more song after this (Sanctuary), and then did an “encore encore” of Run To The Hills after that! I dare say they could’ve gone another hour even after that, Bruce was in his vocal prime here (in his 40s). He had all the power and range of his 20s, coupled with the maturity of experience. He still has the power and range now in his 60s, but his voice sits a little deeper now than it used to, and he has to push a little harder for those high notes. But he can still hit them. There’s an audio clip of Bruce from 2003 (I think), he holds a 40 second note and he wasn’t even singing a part of the song, he was doing a “call and response” with the crowd. He literally held a long note as a challenge to the crowd. For the sheer hell of it.

Actually it wasn't throat cancer, it was on the roof of the mouth. It was after this concert, and he still sings incredibly well. He has had voice lessons, and from his generation of metal singer is the one that has best preserved his singing capacity and actually improved it in many ways. He was in the studio recording when he noticed it first. By far the best frontman in this genre.

The most impressive thing of this performance (and of that “GOD BE WITH YOU!”) is that Bruce delivered it at the end of a 1h30 concert and with a vocal line so hard because it’s fast and constantly high. In the original recording he didn’t do the octave jump.

I'm an American who lived in London from (summer) '64 to (late spring) '78. In that time, I saw many a great many wonderful bands. I was witness to one of the earliest performances (Oct. '68, Marquee Club) of a band who (a few months after) would change their name from The NEW YARDBIRDS to LED ZEPPELIN. It was while living in East London (Stratford) that I discovered a local band called IRON MAIDEN; they became the "house" band at a Pub called The Cart and Horse. Only Steve Harris remains from the earliest days (Dave Murray joined a bit later). It's amazing to see, all these years later, that I.M. is STILL going strong AND getting BIGGER!! I'm still a MAIDEN fan and Hammers supporter. UP THE IRONS!!

Hey, Maggie...First time watcher/listener! I think better comparison for Bruce/Hamilton singer would be studio tracks of Run To The Hills/The Trooper & Revelations. You're right in that both have similar sounding voices but am thinking, where Hamilton singer has higher pitch range, Bruce's voice is more Punch to the Gut/Chop to the Throat-kinda feel!-lol...Sorry if sounding so graphic! Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Well, forget Chuck Norris. - it´s Bruce Dickinson !!!!!! (he´s airforce-captain, he´s flying the biggest aeroplane on earth, he survived throat cancer, iron-maiden has/had no Toer-Bus..they got their own plaene-and guess who´s flying it. And compare older videos: he´s chumping and running and climbing around - never loosing breath)

Really, comparing Bruce Dickinsons voice to the guy from Hamilton, yeesshh.... I was on board with ya until that comment! At the very least, since Iron Maiden has been touring for over 40 years, the "guy from Hamilton" to YOU might sound a little like Bruce Dickinson, not the other way around. Jesus, Bruce even fly's the bands private commercial jet all around the world as well.

Everyone is listening to Hallowed Be Thy Name, but that track is not the best of Maiden. You should check out Alexander The Great from the caught somewhere in time Album! In fact there are many songs better than the one everyone chooses to listen to. Hallowed Be Thy Name has been overplayed and I know it's because people are not familiar with Maiden.

Mr. Dickinson has no formal vocal training at all. What you hear, is what the man can do naturally and intuitively. He's also a licensed, instrument-rated pilot (he captains the band's touring jet). He's a world class fencer, an author, and a respected historian. He also roadied for the Clash during the 1970's British Punk movement. A true renaissance man. Along with Judas Priest's Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio, Dickinson is considered one of a trio of truly great, operatic Metal vocalists. IMO, he's the most talented of the three, although Dio is a close second.

There is a better live performance (IMO) from the first tour with Bruce Dickenson (1982/83). It saw them on that tour, the first concert I ever attended at the age of 13 or so. They were the opening act and I had not heard much of them, I was there for the headline act Judas Priest. I was right up front! What a first concert!

Just found you, holy cheese muffins! Beautiful! Welcome to the Mighty Maiden. They’ve been rockin this since ‘83 or so. The ‘87 or so live version of this is epic. As is Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. Even after the big C Bruce is epic. And oh yeah he’s a commercial pilot (and piloted one of their world tours) and brews epic beers that are sold commercially, among other things.
